The Mediating Effect of Self- directed Learning on the Relationship between Critical Thinking Disposition and Commitment to Learning among Teacher Education Students in KCAST
This study explored how self-directed learning (SDL) mediates the relationship between critical thinking disposition (CTD) and commitment to learning (CTL) among 215 teacher education students at Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (KCAST). A descriptive-correlational design and mediation analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were employed. All three constructs—CTD (M = 4.24), SDL (M = 4.13), and CTL (M = 4.27)—were rated at high or very high levels. Results revealed strong correlations between CTD and SDL (r = .733), and SDL and CTL (r = .607). Mediation analysis confirmed that SDL fully mediated the effect of CTD on CTL. The direct path from CTD to CTL was not significant (β = 0.073, p = .258), while the indirect effect via SDL was significant (β = 0.506, 95% CI [0.394, 0.619], p < .001). The model explained 56.4% of the variance in learning commitment (R² = 0.564), underscoring SDL's crucial role. These findings highlight the importance of promoting self-directed learning to enhance student engagement, autonomy, and lifelong learning commitment among future educators
The Relationship between Intercultural Awareness and Mathematical Disposition: A Convergent Study
This study explored the relationship between intercultural awareness and mathematical disposition among non-board students at Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (KCAST). Using a convergent parallel mixed-methods design, the research combined surveys and interviews to understand how students' cultural awareness affects their attitude toward mathematics. A total of 283 students participated in the quantitative phase, while 14 students were selected for in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The results indicated that both the level of intercultural awareness and mathematical disposition were high; the null hypothesis was rejected, confirming a significant relationship between the two variables. The results from both the quantitative and qualitative phases aligned, confirming that exposure to diverse cultures helps students develop confidence, interest, and a growth mindset in mathematics. The study highlights the importance of integrating cultural perspectives into math education to improve students’ learning experiences. It is recommended that educators incorporate intercultural discussions and culturally relevant math activities in the classroom. Future studies may explore this relationship further by considering additional factors such as teaching methods and learning environments. By promoting both cultural awareness and mathematical confidence, schools can create a more inclusive and engaging learning atmosphere
The Effect of AI Use Motives and Digital Literacy on Classroom Participation of Mathematics Major Teacher Education Students
The purpose of the quantitative study was to determine the impact of AI use motives and digital literacy to the classroom participation of mathematics education students in a local college in Davao del Norte. The study was quantitative research that utilized a descriptive-correlational approach. A sample of 134 randomly selected mathematics education students who were identified using stratified random sampling answered the surveys on the three variables. Standardized questionnaires were administered to assess AI use motives, digital literacy, and classroom participation. The findings revealed that the overall level of AI use motives among students was high (M = 3.75). The level of digital literacy was also high (M = 4.02), with the copyright component rated very high (M = 4.22), while the classroom participation was rated high (M = 4.01) with the understanding teachers component rated very high (M = 4.30), and also the understanding students was rated very high (M = 4.27). Statistical analysis using Pearson r showed a weak but significant positive correlation between AI use motives and classroom participation r (132) = .320, p < .001. Also, the Pearson r between digital literacy and classroom participation showed a weak, positive but significant correlation, r (132) = .514, p < .001. Further analysis through regression revealed that among the domains of digital literacy, there are two indicators that significantly predicted to classroom participation, curation (B = 0.147, p = .010), and creativity (B = 0.107, p <.001). It was revealed that domain of digital literacy such as curation and creativity can significantly predict classroom participation of the respondents. These findings show that improving students' digital literacy, particularly in curation and creativity, could lead to increased classroom participation
The Distribution of Accountants’ and Sharia Supervisory Board (SSB) Akhlaq and Behavior in Strengthening Good Corporate Governance: Evidence from Indonesian Sharia Financial Institutions
This study investigates how the distribution of accountants’ and Sharia Supervisory Board (SSB) akhlaq and professional behavior strengthens good corporate governance in Indonesian Sharia financial institutions. Drawing on a distribution perspective, the study conceptualizes akhlaq as an ethical resource distributed across governance actors rather than as an individual moral attribute. It emphasizes the role of ethical distribution in enhancing accountability, transparency, and Sharia compliance within institutional governance structures. This study adopts a qualitative interpretive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with accountants and SSB members from Indonesian Sharia financial institutions, supported by an analysis of governance documents, ethical guidelines, and Sharia compliance reports. The akhlaq construct is adapted from Islamic ethical frameworks integrating faith (akidah), normative obedience (sharia), and moral consciousness (ihsan). Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns of ethical distribution, professional behavior, and governance mechanisms. The findings show that akhlaq is distributed through formal mechanisms, such as governance structures, standard operating procedures, and supervisory routines, as well as informal mechanisms, including role modeling, ethical deliberation, and moral self-regulation. This distribution shapes professional behavior among accountants and SSB members, strengthening accountability, transparency, and Sharia compliance, and thereby reinforcing good corporate governance. This study contributes to the accounting behavior by extending the concept of distribution to ethical and behavioral dimensions within Sharia governance. It offers a novel perspective on how intangible ethical resources can be systematically distributed to enhance governance quality in Islamic financial institutions
