The Absurd and the Ordinary: Camusian Existentialism in Williams’ Landscape with the Fall of Icarus
This paper examines William Carlos Williams’ poem “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” through the philosophical lens of Albert Camus’ concept of the absurd. While no direct intellectual connection between Williams and Camus has been documented, both writers confront a similar modern condition: the tension between human desire for meaning and the indifference of the world. Drawing on Camus’ The Myth of Sisyphus and Williams’ poetics of the ordinary, this study argues that the poem embodies a distinctly Camusian sensibility. Through close reading, the analysis reveals how the poem’s understated tone, sparse imagery, and focus on everyday labor reframe the mythic fall of Icarus as a quiet, unnoticed event. This shift from heroic tragedy to mundane continuity highlights the poem’s existential insight—that human aspirations often remain unseen within the vast neutrality of the world. By situating the poem within the broader context of ekphrastic interpretation and modernist aesthetics, the study demonstrates how Williams transforms Brueghel’s painting into a meditation on the absurd and the ordinary. Ultimately, the paper shows that Williams’ poetic attention to the everyday converges with Camus’ philosophical call for lucidity, grounding the myth in the rhythms of real life
Disaster Management Practices Among Cities in the National Capital Region: Towards Development of a Mitigation Plan
The Philippines, particularly low-lying NCR cities like Marikina, Malabon, and Navotas, is highly vulnerable to climate-related disasters. This study compared disaster management practices in recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, and examined how these relate to LGU institutional capacity. Using a descriptive-correlational design, data were collected from CEMO/CENRO, DRRM, and CSWDO personnel through questionnaires, interviews, and document reviews. Results show that recovery and rehabilitation are consistently implemented, while reconstruction practices vary. Budgets, facilities, and manpower are generally strong, but technology integration differs across cities. Significant differences in disaster management practices were observed, with higher LGU capacity strongly correlating with more effective implementation (r = 0.852, p = 0.002). The findings highlight the need to enhance reconstruction, technology use, and relocation strategies to support resilient, evidence-based mitigation planning
Impact of Teacher Professional Development on Students’ Mathematics Productivity: A Convergent Parallel Study
This paper sought to understand lived experience and insights of mathematics teacher education students in as far as teacher professional development is concerned and its impact on their productivity. A parallel convergent approach mixed-methods design was used. Qualitative phase had 14 purposefully selected students (seven were included in the focus group discussions and seven in the in-depth interviews) and quantitative phase encompassed 130 randomly chosen students. Quantitative results confirmed that there were high scores on student productivity and professional development of the teachers where the correlation was moderately positive and significant (r = 0.609, p < .001). The qualitative findings showed that teachers’ teaching strategies, extra efforts done outside the classroom and flexibility in the teaching modalities were appreciated by the students contributing more in student engagement and learning. The combined results established that professional development is an essential aspect in enhancing mathematics productivity amongst the learners. At the end of the study, the degree of improving the effectiveness and productive mathematics education by investing in the teacher professional development is concluded
Bridging Hunger and Learning: Evaluating Educational Impacts and Implementation Challenges of Mid-Day Meal Programs in Kathmandu Valley
School Feeding Programs are increasingly viewed as a strategic approach to address child malnutrition and educational inequities. Acknowledging this importance, the Government of Nepal began the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) program from fiscal year 2077/2078 B.S. with the aim of improving attendance, educational outcomes, and students’ well-being. This study explores the educational impact of the MDM program and examines the barriers encountered by schools in its implementation. While the prior studies have only focused on the rural settings with abundant data and reports, this qualitative study has explored the program effectiveness in five selective community schools in Kathmandu Valley, which actively run the program with government funding. For the study, 15 purposively selected participants from 5 different schools were interviewed. Data were transcribed, translated, and coded, employing an inductive thematic analysis. The findings reveal that the program has contributed significantly to improved daily attendance, students’ retention, classroom engagement, students’ well-being, along the reduction in consumption of junk and packaged foods. However, barriers like insufficient funding for the program, lack of proper infrastructure and dining facilities, weak monitoring mechanisms, and inclusion of all the students have been the major barriers to running the program effectively. The study highlights the need for increased budget allocation, upgrades to infrastructure, robust monitoring, and expansion of the program to higher grades. These findings highlight the need for continued investment and better policies and their implementation to help the MDM program reach its full potential in improving both education and nutrition in Nepal
PENGARUH EDUKASI SELF-MANAGEMENT TERHADAP PERUBAHAN GAYA HIDUP PENDERITA HIPERTENSI DI DESA PADANG KECAMATAN KINTOM KABUPATEN BANGGAI
Penyakit tekanan darah (hipertensi) adalah keadaan dimana terjadi peningkatan tekanan
darah di dinding pembuluh darah arteri, dengan tekanan darah menunjukkan 140
mmHg untuk sistol dan 90 mmHg untuk diastole. Manajemen diri atau self-
management adalah kemampuan individu untuk mengorganisasi pikiran, emosi, waktu,
dan perilaku dengan baik demi mencapai tujuan pribadi dan profesional.Tujuan dari
penelitian untuk mengetahui pegaruh edukasi self-management terhadap perubahan gaya
hidup penderita hipertensi di desa Padang.
Penelitian ini menggunakan metode expreriment (pre-experiment) dengan desain one
group pre post test design. Sampel pada penelitian ini sebanyak 15 responden dan
penetapam sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrument penelitian
menggunakan SAP, Leaflet, dan Kuisioner. Selanjutnya data yang sudah terkumpul
diolah menggunakan komputer dengan program spss versi 16 untuk di analisa dengan
menggunakan uji alternatif non parametrik Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test dengan tingkat
kemaknaan () 0,05.
Hasil pada penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa didapatkan hasil dengan nilai value = 0,00
yang dimana nilai tersebut lebih kecil dari nilai ≤ 0,05. Maka dapat disimpulkan adanya
pengaruh edukasi self-management terhadap perubahan gaya hidup penderita hipertensi.
Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini terdapat pen garuh edukasi self-management terhadap
perubahan gaya hidup penderita hipertensi di desa Padang. Saran diharapkan dapat
menambah wawasan dan pengetahuan yang bermanfaat tentang gaya hidup sehat bagi
peneliti selanjutnya dan penderita hipertensi, serta kader kesehatan di desa padang.

A Mixed- methods Study on the Vocabulary Awareness of Local College Freshmen
The design study aimed to describe the experiences of freshmen students in a local college on vocabulary awareness. A mixed-methods design was employed, specifically using a parallel convergent approach. In the quantitative phase, 328 freshmen were selected through random sampling. For the qualitative phase, 14 participants were purposively chosen, with seven participating in in-depth interviews and another seven in focus group discussions. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, particularly the mean, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis by coding and refining emerging themes. The quantitative results indicated a high level of vocabulary awareness among students, with a mean score of 4.08. The qualitative findings revealed six major themes: (1) continuous exposure as a tool for vocabulary enhancement, (2) personal experiences as a foundation for vocabulary development, (3) interactive strategies to strengthen vocabulary skills, (4) contextual exposure and adaptation in vocabulary learning, (5) building confidence and motivation in vocabulary use, and (6) emotional barriers in vocabulary learning. The integration of quantitative and qualitative results showed merging-converging, confirming consistency between the students’ perceived awareness and their actual experiences. The study concludes that vocabulary awareness plays a significant role in improving language proficiency, academic performance, and communication skills. These findings provide meaningful insights for educational institutions in designing vocabulary-building programs, creating supportive learning environments, and developing instructional materials that address students’ vocabulary development needs
