Brother Thomas and Brother Karl
No full textBrother Thomas Darryl Kraus (left) and Brother Carl Erick Koch (right) were two young Christian Brothers.
Brother Thomas Darryl Kraus started his journey as a Christian Brothers High School student. While at CBHS in 1962, he received the number one science fair award for his experimental study on how stress effects hemoglobin, and a year later he won the grand prize for his continued research on hemoglobin. In 1963, he decided to join the Christian Brothers and start his training.
Brother Karl Erick Koch also started his journey at CBHS. By the time he was a sophomore, he had already earned several scouting honors, including the highest honor a Scout could earn: the Eagle scouting award. In 1963, he decided to join the Christian Brothers as well. Brother Carl Koch returned to Christian Brothers College as the literature and languages professor. He was often involved in the Memphis and Christian Brothers College community. He helped judge the Memphis Spelling Bee in 1975 and 1976. Under his direction in 1976, the Mid-Day College was expanded to include eleven courses. The same year he participated in the CBC Music Show called Eine Kleine Shoppe Musik (A Little Shop Music) as Kleine
Ronald Krelstein Headshot
No full textRonald D. Krelstein was a Christian Brothers College student who pioneered the CBC Rifle and Pistol Club with the athletic moderator, Brother H. Charles, in 1962. Krelstein had already been recognized among the top 10 civilian pistol marksmen and ranked second in the collegiate ranks. He even won numerous awards in the Mid-South. By 1964, he was the reigning National Collegiate pistol champion, which he won as a CBC student. He was also one of approximately 300 Americans and one of approximately 20 American civilians classified as a distinguished pistol shooter, the Tennessee state resident champion, and belonged to the exclusive “2,600 Club.” After three years of competitive shooting, Krelstein was at the top of four classification levels: master. After the 1971 International Pistol Shooting Union of South Africa, Krelstein was reported as the world’s greatest shot with a .22 caliber pistol

A Sophomore win meant that the Freshmen had to continue wearing derbies for an additional two weeks. Paul Buscemi (in the derby) was the Freshman captain; Harrigan Wortsmith captained the Sophomores.
