No full textFrom the late 1950s until the early 70s, freshman initiation at Christian Brothers College found new students being called "worms" and wearing red derbies to set them apart from upperclassmen.
During the initiation period, upperclassmen could dictate that the freshmen clean rooms, polish shoes, or sit on rocks "till they're warm." Initiation came to an end with the "Worm Game," an intramural football game that pit the freshmen against the sophomores

It had been preceded by WCBC-AM, which broadcast from Maurelian Hall, only operating within the college's own electrical system. In 1965, Henry Slavick of WMC offered CBC a radio transmitter, a donation that was finalized the following year. The FCC approved WCBC-FM on September 13, 1966

Pro Golfer Cary Middlecoff
No full textDr. Cary Middlecoff is a graduate of Christian Brothers College who went on to become a dentist and a pro golfer. As a golfer, he was named Memphis’ National Open King.
When he was a student, Dr. Middlecoff was a CBC Purple and won the prep golf championship. In 1949, he presented CBC students of the city and state championship golf team with trophies, and the faculty and students of CBC gifted him a trophy because of the inspiration he brought the students. The same year he won his first U.S. Open crown, and the second was in 1956. When he returned to Memphis after his win, Brother H. Stephen, the athletic director at CBC, congratulated him at a dinner in his honor
