    Award Recipients with President

    (L-R) Thomas Curley, Benjamin Hooks, and Linda Smiley are dressed in graduation regalia and caps with different color masters hoods. The president of Christian Brothers University, Brother Michael McGinnis, is on the far right wearing a blue academic tam and gown along his own hood and emblems. At the 1999 CBU graduation, Curley, Hooks, and Smiley were all honored. Thomas Curley was the USA Today president and publisher received an honorary degree from CBU for encouraging education programs in high schools and colleges. Ben Hooks was honored with the Peace and Justice Award because of his civil rights work and leadership. Linda Smiley graduated of Christian Brothers College in 1980. As a student, she played on both the basketball and volleyball teams in the late 1970s. In 1999, Dr. Smiley received the Distinguished Alumnus Award for her clinical trial on combination therapy for cervical cancer. Brother Michael McGinnis served as president of Christian Brothers University from 1994 to 1999
