Poor Richard Revised: Benjamin Franklin and the Ritual Economy of Copyright in Colonial America

    No full text
Benjamin Franklin was the most prolific and profitable author in colonial America. Work on the history of intellectual property has increasingly identified Franklin as a central figure, particularly in the philosophical development of American copyright law. His understanding and use of what we now think of as intellectual property are potentially illustrative of its emerging theorization in the eighteenth century. Evidence of this can be found in his thoughts and actions regarding copyright and patent specifically, as well as related issues such as the attribution and development of ideas. Adapted from economic anthropology, the theory of ritual economy provides a framework through which to consider how Franklin’s worldview materialized in everyday economic practices, including interactions with proto-intellectual property issues

ASEAN Entrepreneurs Facing Two Major External Impacts: Envisaging Opportunities or Challenges? (Translated into Vietnamese

    No full text
The aims of this paper are to examine two major emerging trends: 1) the adoption of a new regional free trade agreement and 2) the creation of a formulary apportionment strategy. Through the methods of content analysis, comprehensive literature review and examination of expert opinions, the authors found the impact of implementing one of the Big Three RFTAs (i.e. TPP - Trans-Pacific Partnership, RCEP - Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, and FTAAP-21 – Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific) will be a significant increase in the revenues and opportunities for ASEAN entrepreneurs, particularly those who are more proactive in expanding to global markets. Similarly, results of a new formulary apportionment approach reveal that it is most beneficial as a regional strategy for ASEAN business leaders to show transparency and to stabilize taxes. In conclusion, changes in adoption of a new regional free trade agreement and a regional formulary apportionment strategy can help propel ASEAN entrepreneurs financially, economically, and globally by creating a more transparent, proactive and opportunity-oriented business environment for the region

On the Validations of the Asymptotic Matching conjectures

    No full text
In this paper we review the asymptotic matching conjectures for rr-regular bipartite graphs, and their connections in estimating the monomer-dimer entropies in dd-dimensional integer lattice and Bethe lattices. We prove new rigorous upper and lower bounds for the monomer-dimer entropies, which support these conjectures. We describe a general construction of infinite families of rr-regular tori graphs and give algorithms for computing the monomer-dimer entropy of density pp, for any p[0,1]p\in [0,1], for these graphs. Finally we use tori graphs to test the asymptotic matching conjectures for certain infinite rr-regular bipartite graphs
