Kalkwesen im Widerstand. Eine Untersuchung über das Phänomen Kalk
In dieser Master-Arbeit wird das Phänomen Kalk und seine variierende Rolle in unterschiedlichen Kontexten untersucht. Kalk wird je nach Ort geschützt oder beseitigt. Diese Dynamik wird durch ästhetische Forschung erkundet, wobei Erscheinungsformen und Zersetzung betrachtet werden. Kalk dient als Schutzmaterial, z.B. in Korallenriffen, und als Baustoff in der Architektur. Diese Rollen zeigen seine Wandelbarkeit. Die ästhetische Forschung betont die Bedeutung von Kalk und zeigt, wie Kunst ökologische Zusammenhänge sichtbar machen kann. Design and Development of a Functional Prototype App for Cardiovascular Health Management
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death among women globally, yet sex-specific risks, symptoms, and management strategies continue to be underrepresented in both clinical care and digital health tools. This study addresses these gaps by exploring how a mobile health (mHealth) application can be designed to meet the unique needs of women with CVD, incorporating the perspectives of both patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs). Using a qualitative, user-centered design approach, the research is structured around the Double Diamond framework and guided by human-centered design principles

Ein Schirm deckt auf. Eine szenografisch-installative Performance zur Alkoholprävention
Sonnenschirme machen die Schatten der gesellschaftlichen Normalität des Alkoholkonsums vor der Kaserne Basel sichtbar. Die subtile Neugestaltung der Walther-Terrasse und des Rheinbords lädt zur Auseinandersetzung mit Alkoholsucht ein. Beigefarbene Stoffe auf Schirmhöhe verbinden die Schirme, wie auch Alkohol oft als soziales Bindemittel wirkt. Ihre Unterseiten zeigen wachsende, partizipative Statements, während verspiegelte Schirmflächen den persönlichen Konsum und den öffentlichen Rausch reflektieren. Orange Schirme auf der Klingelthal-Fähre und in der kHaus--Fassade sowie eine Performerin mit Schirm auf der Schulter ziehen die Blicke auf sich. 20 Uhr: Licht aus, Schirme drehen sich, Stoffe lösen sich und fallen wie Vorhänge, ein noch intimerer Raum entsteht. Aus abgehängten «leeren» Weinflaschen erklingen Stimmen von Betroffenen und Angehörigen. Ein Raum, der trinkt, wird nun zur Bühne des Unausgesprochenen. Besucher:innen werden durch die Installative Performance natürlich aufgefordert über die Thematik offen zu reden und Gedanken, Statements im Raum zu lassen, um somit die Auseinandersetzung zu vertiefen. Zusätzlich fordert die Installation mit dem Schriftzug «Lueget ane» dazu auf, Alkoholsucht als gesamtgesellschaftliches Problem endlich ernst zu nehmen. Ein einsam stehender Schirm auf dem verlassenen Kasernenplatz bleibt als kollektives Mahnmal zurück. Adapting Fuzzy Semi-Deviation Models for Public Markets Asset Allocation: A Comparative Analysis of FSMAD 1, FSMAD 2, and Mean-Variance Optimization
Traditional Mean-Variance (MV) portfolio optimization faces significant challenges. It assumes normal return distributions, often underestimating risk during market stress due to financial returns exhibiting fat tails and skewness. The model is highly sensitive to input estimation errors, leading to unstable and extreme portfolio allocations. Furthermore, MV often results in corner solutions, where portfolios are concentrated in a few assets, undermining diversification. This study assess whether Fuzzy Semi-Mean Absolute Deviation (FSMAD) models can overcome these shortcomings
Introduction to Factor Analysis
Factor analysis is a multivariate statistical method wherein we strive to uncover a structure or patterns in the associations between variables (e.g., items of a questionnaire) and represent them more parsimoniously with a smaller set of underlying latent variables, called factors. These factors are thought to constitute unobservable, internal attributes, that influence or cause the way observable, i.e., mani-fest behavior is expressed. For example, intelligence is thought to constitute such an attribute: If a person’s intelligence is high, this should allow them to response correctly to hard questions in intelligence tests and be fast at learning about complex new topics.
Factor analysis is used to describe and test (hypothesized) structures and patterns in data. For in-stance, in personality psychology, we might look at data from a big five questionnaire and test whether we actually do find five distinct factors, as proposed by the theory; or in an instrument assessing ADHD, we can test whether we can identify distinct factors for the main symptoms and whether they match with the empirically distinguished subtypes; or, finally, in a questionnaire assessing risk preferences across different life domains, we can test whether we find a stronger clustering of items within vs. across domains. Factor analysis is also the basis for structural equation modelling, wherein we can run regressions (i.e., test directed associations) between latent constructs instead of running a regression based on manifest variables.
In this workshop we cover the basics of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis including their application in R. Moreover, I provide a sneak peek into structural equation modelling. My goal is that after the workshop you will know which technique to employ in a given scenario; that you can take the first steps of implementing it in R; and that you know where to look for further resources and details to be able to successfully apply factor analysis in your research. Switzerland is experiencing a crisis because a significant portion of its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) lacks succession planning. Although entrepreneurship is prominent in the country, most of it focuses on launching new ventures rather than acquiring existing firms. This thesis examines key motivators and barriers that shape the intention of potential entrepreneurs to pursue entrepreneurship through acquisition (ETA), which could contribute to addressing the succession crisis
Current experiences, perception, knowledge, and concerns with the usage of GenAI: a comparison between lecturers and students in higher education at a Swiss university of applied science
This study investigates the current experiences, perception, knowledge, and concerns regarding the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) among lecturers and students at a Swiss University of Applied Sciences. By surveying 133 participants, including 80 students and 54 faculty members, the research aims to compare the attitude towards GenAI technologies such as ChatGPT in higher education. The findings reveal a high degree of alignment between the two groups, with students
displaying slightly more optimism towards the educational benefits of GenAI. Both groups acknowledge the importance of institutional strategies to manage the risks associated with GenAI and emphasize the need for proficiency in using these tools for future careers. Significant differences include students' stronger belief in the educational advantages of GenAI and their lower concern about potential biases and manipulation. The study highlights the necessity for structured institutional responses and continuous empirical investigation to support the responsible integration of GenAI in higher education.https://iated.org/archive/edulearn2
