Poetic haptics. Reclaming the body's presence in design
No full textMy Bachelor's thesis explores the loss of haptic richness occurring during the translation from analog to digital touch, a historical issue that has intensified with the emergence of touchscreens. The transition from physical materials to digital surfaces has significantly reduced tactile complexity, reducing touch to a uniform, smooth surface. Inspired by natural analog textures, Poetic Haptics proposes a structured and repeatable system in which each material is translated through successive stages, from physical to digital to hybrid, machine-mediated forms. The result is an archive of visual documentation, including prints and a video capturing this transformation process. I documented how tactile qualities like friction, softness, and resistance are gradually altered, lost, or reinterpreted. Rather than recreating touch, the project evokes its memory, suggesting poetic ways to preserve haptic experiences and to reclaim the body’s presence in design.https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11806/data/NextGen25-eo80tms
The role and structure of molecular glues in plant signalling networks
No full textProtein–protein interactions are one of the pillars of all life processes. Many signalling molecules work by promoting and stabilizing these interactions. These molecular ‘glues’ bind simultaneously to two proteins inducing their interaction, which would be otherwise less favourable or non-favourable. Importantly, they can be harnessed for a clinical purpose, but, despite advances in medicine, the wealth of natural molecular glues in plants have only rarely been commercially utilized. These molecular glues may be plant-endogenous or plant-exogenous small molecules or peptides, and they may be involved in many different processes, such as growth promotion or stress response, opening new opportunities for crop protection, along with other applications. In this Review, we analyse the underlying structural motives and molecular interactions in detail, classifying the modes of actions based on their nature (small ligands versus peptides) and receptor classes. We discuss both natural metabolites and mimetics of such compounds, highlighting similarities and differences between signalling pathways and comparing them with relevant mechanisms in mammals

Yet, paper remains the preferred format of reading for many students, scholars and researchers across the globe. Copying on paper is often the most affordable way of obtaining texts. Struggles over access can thus be understood as struggles over (the abundance of) paper. Gossip und Grossmütter. Zur politischen Kraft des Erzählens persönlicher Geschichten
No full textDiese Bachelor-Arbeit untersucht die politische und feministische Kraft des Erzählens persönlicher Geschichten anhand einer Prozessdokumentation des Projekts «Was bleibt» sowie einer historischen Kontextualisierung. Die Prozessdokumentation konzentriert sich auf die im Projekt angewandte Methode: In der Gruppe persönliche Geschichten unserer Grossmütter und von uns selbst auszutauschen und die darin bestehenden patriarchalen Machtstrukturen zu analysieren. Zudem setzt sie sich mit den subversiven Auswirkungen dieser Methode auseinander sowie mit der Frage, in welchen Vermittlungsformaten sich diese auf Menschen ausserhalb des Projekts übertragen lassen. Die historische Kontextualisierung erfolgt einerseits durch eine vertiefte Auseinandersetzung mit dem Begriff «Gossip». Dabei wird aufgezeigt, inwiefern dessen negative und weibliche Konnotation mit der Unterdrückung von Frauen verknüpft ist – und welches subversive Potenzial in Gossip als Praxis steckt. Andererseits basiert sie auf einer Recherche zu feministischen Consciousness-Raising-Gruppen und der Frage, wie das Erzählen persönlicher Geschichten als Mittel politischer Bewusstseinsbildung genutzt wurde und werden kann. Es zeigt sich, dass das Erzählen persönlicher Geschichten eine subversive Kraft entfaltet – als Form des Wissenstransfers, als Mittel zur Bewusstwerdung patriarchaler Strukturen und als Praxis, die Beziehungen und Verbundenheit stärkt.https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11806/data/NextGen25-ud2r46x

Caja. Cargobox für Hunde im Flugzeug-Frachtraum
No full textCAJA ist eine Transportbox, die Flugreisen für Hunde im Frachtraum erleichtert. In einer zunehmend globalisierten Welt werden Auslandsumzüge und weite Reisen immer häufiger. Doch was passiert bei einer Flugreise, wenn man seinen vierbeinigen Freund nicht zurücklassen kann? Für grössere Hunde bedeutet das oft den Frachtraum – eine stressige Situation. Caja besteht aus einer Wanne und einem abnehmbaren Deckel, dient offen als Hundekorb und lässt sich über Wochen schrittweise zur Transportbox aufbauen. So gewöhnt sich der Hund behutsam an die geschlossene Form. Akustikpaneele reduzieren Lärm während des Flugs und schaffen einen geschützten Rückzugsort.
