Managing Cognitive Biases in LLMs Utilization

    No full text
This thesis investigates the challenges posed by cognitive biases in the utilization of Large Language Models (LLMs) within the pharmaceutical industry and proposes strategies to mitigate these biases using educational tools aligned with the "Anxious" aspect of the BANI framework. Cognitive biases such as confirmation bias, automation bias, loss aversion, and fear of missing out can significantly impact decision-making, document trustworthiness, and productivity when employees rely on LLMs for generating documents

Digitale Teilhabe von Menschen mit Behinderungen in der beruflichen Bildung. Digitale Teilhabe: Keine Selbstverständlichkeit

    No full text

The impact of COVID-19 on the social and cultural integration of international students: a literature review

    No full text
This systematic literature review summarises the state-of-the-art evidence on the impact of COVID-19 on the integration of international students in their host countries and institutions. Conducted between January and May 2022, it analyses the responses to COVID-19 of the key actors involved in international student mobility: national/regional authorities, higher education institutions, and students. Findings reveal that governmental action and institutional measures were decisive in shaping international students’ integration experiences. Regarding governmental action, criticism of the policies adopted by Australia and the USA in relation to immigration and/or support stand out, in contrast to policies adopted by the Canadian authorities. Higher education institutions played an important role in mitigating the negative effects of COVID-19 on international students’ integration. These targeted different needs– material, well-being, and social– through different types of support: logistical and financial support, psychological support, and the provision of platforms for ongoing social interaction and exchange. Most studies, however, focus on the students themselves, the challenges they faced during the pandemic and their coping strategies. Common to international students’ lived experience was (dis)connectedness, with the following themes emerging as obstacles to their social and cultural integration: distress during lockdown periods, disruption of their social life and support networks, mental health issues, discrimination and racialised prejudice, and language barriers. The review concludes by proposing recommendations and by identifying avenues for future research

    Projektarbeit Thüringhaus HS 2024

    No full text

Parenting style patterns and their longitudinal impact on mental health in abused and nonabused adolescents

    No full text
Background While the impact of parenting styles on adolescents’ mental health is well documented, no study has used latent person-oriented methods to analyze the effects of parenting style trajectories, experienced by physically abused and nonabused adolescents from early to middle adolescence, on mental health outcomes. Method In this longitudinal study, we used latent transition analysis (LTA) to detect parenting patterns and their trajectories among 1,709 adolescents from 44 high schools in Switzerland across three data waves (2021-2023) by applying a multigroup comparison between physically nonabused and abused adolescents. Using multinomial regression, we tested the effects of the detected parenting patterns on adolescents’ mental health. Results Along with the two known patterns, termed “supportive” and “negative” parenting, two new parenting patterns which we termed “absent” (low levels on all tested parenting styles) and “ambiguous” (middle to high levels on all tested parenting styles) emerged as playing a key role in the perceptions of adolescents with and without parental abuse experience longitudinally. These four patterns developed in diverse ways: Supportive parenting decreased for abused adolescents over time but remained stable for the nonabused adolescents. The absent parenting level was stable over time among abused adolescents when compared to the outcomes experienced by adolescents subjected to the negative parenting pattern. Furthermore, we found a remarkable decline in the number of nonabused adolescents in the absence pattern from Wave 1 to Wave 3. Further, we also found that abused adolescents reported more negative parenting than nonabused adolescents. Additionally, we found that supportive parenting was beneficial for adolescents’ mental health whereas negative, ambiguous, and absent parenting all had detrimental effects. Conclusions These findings highlight the beneficial association of supportive parenting and the detrimental effects of negative, ambiguous, and absent parenting. This also suggests that we must consider a more complex approach that involves examining a blend of different parenting styles when analyzing adolescent mental health

The use of social robots in elderly care offers potential solutions for improving the quality of life for older adults and alleviating the burden on nursing homes caused by demographic shifts and workforce shortages. However, their successful deployment is hindered by a significant trust gap among stakeholders that influences their willingness to accept and use these technologies

Thermoresponsive nanocarriers transduced by inorganic nanoparticles: design considerations and applications in drug delivery

    No full text
Thermoresponsive polymers, which undergo phase transitions within physiologically tolerated temperatures, are key to developing drug delivery systems (DDS) with precise spatial and temporal control, potentially addressing challenges associated with the treatment of complex diseases. Inorganic nanoparticles with unique optical, electronic, and magnetic properties serve as efficient transducers, converting external stimuli into localized heat to trigger thermoresponsive nanocarriers. This review explores the design and application of thermoresponsive nanocarriers transduced by inorganic nanoparticles as DDS. Following a brief description of temperature-triggered phase transition of polymers and heat generation mechanisms by inorganic nanoparticles, strategies to integrate these components into hybrid systems are described. Examples demonstrating the utility of these hybrid systems as advanced DDS are discussed, highlighting their potential for precise drug release alongside theranostic capabilities by combining therapy with imaging. Despite the challenges in design, synthesis, and biological applications, thermoresponsive polymer-inorganic hybrids hold immense promise for transforming drug delivery and biomedical innovations
