    Get PDF
The article presents the results of an empirical study on the opportunities of introducing virtual reality technologies into social services for the elderly conducted by the authors in 2019-2020. The authors indicate that the need to implement VR technology is determined by the changes in the worldview, lifestyle, and the role of elderly people in modern society. The authors conducted an observation and subsequent interviewing of social service clients who attended the “Virtual Tourism” classes. The study demonstrates a positive impact on the psycho-emotional state and physical wellbeing of the elderly. However, the authors also indicate possible risks to vision associated with heavy eye strain in the process of using VR glasses

REGIONAL TRADE AGREEMENTS AND GLOBAL VALUE CHAINS: IS THERE ANY CONNECTION BETWEEN THESE BACKBONE TRENDS OF WORLD ECONOMY?

    Get PDF
World economy transformations related to backbone trends such as global value chains (hereinafter – “GVCs”) and the intensification of regional trade contribute to an active change in economic geography. However, there is no common approach to assess the relationship between the Regional Trade Agreements (hereinafter – “RTAs”) and GVCs. Some researchers suggest that the inclusion of companies in the stages of production is determined by economic expediency only and does not depend on the integration policy of countries. Nevertheless, theoretical background and empirical analysis make it possible to come up with a hypothesis that the elimination of barriers to the movement of goods, services and factors of production, provided by regional integration, contributes to the inclusion of countries in regional and global value chains. In the present article, quantitative analysis based on the Gravity model of trade was used, which evaluates the relationship between regionalization and the participation of countries in value chains on the example of the EU, to support this statement. Calculations show that European integration facilitates the development of regional industrial cooperation, while non-tariff restrictions adversely affect the development of GVCs. At the same time, the analysis of actors with economic asymmetries, such as Eurasian Economic Union and MERCOSUR, shows that in some cases the conclusion of RTA is not enough and wider cooperation in economic integration is needed for the purpose of GVCs promotion. Thus, this study illustrates that regional economic integration supported by RTAs can be a tool for integrating economies into the transnational production system

Improving the quality of life of citizens is based on restructuring both the way of making the city and the collective transport system. The city is growing in a disorderly manner and, consequently, social inequality is increasing, giving rise to social exclusion, as well as to the segregation that is always observed. Therefore, there must be urban policies with a prospective vision that mitigate informal growth, reduce social inequality and that are thought from the citizens, seeking their well-being and a correct quality of urban life for each one of them

ABSTRACT: This article presents and discusses the results of a qualitative research carried out with young Portuguese inhabitants of an island in the Azores Archipelago and a city in the north of mainland Portugal on the formation of their consumption desires. 23 young people between 18 and 29 years old were heard in semi-structured individual interviews about youth, consumption and advertising. The results were organized in units of meaning and the interviews were interpreted in the light of Critical Theory, using the concept of half-education. LA SUPREMACÍA DE LOS AEROPUERTOS GENERA UNA ALTA DEPENDENCIA AL DESTINO TURÍSTICO ESPAÑA: THE SUPREMACY OF AIRPORTS GENERATES A HIGH DEPENDENCE ON THE TOURIST DESTINATION SPAIN

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT: This study examines airports as an essential tool in the strategic and marketing plans of Spanish destinations, but we are aware that every tool has a mathematical and social divergence, in the case of Spanish airports, these have been the Gates of Paradise of the Spanish tourist destination, but at the same time they have become the controller of the future of many Spanish tourist destinations, in which they condition the economy, urban planning and the labor and social scenario of the natives of that territory. The main objective is to analyze the hegemony of airports as a link to entry to Spanish destination, airport and destination are communicating vessels that favor the tourist growth of Spain, but this has created a high dependence on destinations in their short- and long-term plan. The second objective is to evaluate whether there are other alternatives for short and long-distance transport that reduce competition in the Spanish air sector. Finally, the third objective is to examine whether the record of tourist arrivals to Spain through airports is good for the strategic plans of DMOs that stress quality. This correlation is not always feasible and acceptable in tourist destinations, since tourism is a very seasonal, changing, capricious activity and especially in Spain, given its geographical location within Europe. Keywords: Airports; tourist destinations; tourism; transport; DMO

TURISMO, GESTÃO DO CONHECIMENTO E TRABALHOS COLETIVOS: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA

    Get PDF

The objectives of this essay are twofold: firstly, to provide a critical evaluation of the usefulness of Indonesia’s traditional dances in enriching its national profile; and secondly, to assess some practical implications associated with utilising traditional dances as a predictor for a nation’s personification. It is a reflective study that relies on a structured review approach. The study suggests that traditional dances, revolving around the formation of religiosity as an expression of praise to God, are not only embedded with authentic shared values, but also attributed to collective cultural production. The multi-layered rhythmic vocal canting, not to praise God but more likely as dramatic actions. Cultural production in this setting enriches a nation’s personification that is taken in other domain as a predictor attribute of a nation’s brand image. Some directions for future research, limitations, and concluding remarks are provided
