The monograph ('Images of Biedermeier Ljubljana') brings together 14 studies on Ljubljana in the 1830s. They are based on letters sent almost daily from Ljubljana between 1832 and 1840 by retired captain Franz Franz (1779–1840) to Jožef Kalasanc Baron Erberg (1771–1843) in Dol pri Ljubljani (transcribed letters were published in a separate e-publication entitled Pisma Franca Franza baronu Erbergu (1832–1840) ('Letters of Franz Franz to Baron Erberg 1832–1840'). The introductory essays shed light on the life and career of the main protagonist, the author of the letters, Captain Franz, and then provide a general overview of Biedermaier Ljubljana and the various social classes in the city – the nobility, the bourgeoisie and the military. The authors also present the social and cultural life of the city, in particular the activities of the Estate Theatre and the events at the Casino, among which the tombola was one of the most popular. They also touch on the travel habits of the Ljubljana bourgeoisie, illness and general health, and the church situation. The monograph concludes with a Slovenian translation of Franz's German letters for 1836, the year when cholera ravaged Ljubljana.

Utopija uniforme. Afektivna življenja Jugoslovanske ljudske armade

Utopija uniforme ('Utopia of the Uniform') draws on memories and archives of dozens of former Yugoslav People's Army soldiers to show how their experiences of military service point to futures, forms of collectivity, and relations between the state and the individual different from those that prevailed in the neoliberal present. The author argues that the power of repetitive, ritualized, and performative practices that constituted military service provided a framework in which drastically different men could live together and create interpersonal relationships and affective bonds that brought the key political ideas of collectivity, solidarity, egalitarianism, education, and comradeship into being. The book makes an important intervention in the study of socialism, masculinity, and total institutions, while situating the study of Yugoslav socialism within the current debates about the possibility of collective political imagination and action.

Iacobus Gallus: Selectiores quaedam missae, Liber I

From the very beginning, one of the most important and ambitious goals of the MAMS collection has been publication of the collected works of Iacobus Handl-Gallus in a modern transcription tailored to the needs of contemporary performers. After the publication of his famous collection of motets, Opus musicum, in thirteen volumes (1985–1990), Edo Škulj edited a four-volume edition of Gallus’s masses in 1991. The edition is enriched by facsimiles from Gallus’s original collection, Selectiores quaedam missae, published in 1580 by the Prague printer Georg Nigrin (Jiří Černý). Gallus divided his Missarum into four books. The first book (Liber I) contains one 7- and three 8-part settings of the Mass Ordinary. The 2025 digitized post-edition is accompanied by a new preface and an introductory study by Dr Marc Desmet that summarizes and compiles all recent findings about the composer and his work.

By editing a volume of compositions from manuscript sources, the MAMS collection achieved one of its most important and ambitious goals in 1996. The publication of the volume Compostions Preserved in Manuscript, edited by Edo Škulj, completed the publication of the collected works of Iacobus Handl-Gallus in a modern transcription tailored to the needs of contemporary performers. The volume contains four settings of all or individual movements of the Mass Ordinary as well as four motets. Gallus’s authorship of the compositions remains uncertain. The 2025 digitized post-edition is accompanied by a new preface and an introductory study by Dr Marc Desmet that summarizes and compiles all recent findings about the composer and his work.Z izdajo izbranih skladb iz rokopisnih virov je zbirka MAMS dosegla enega svojih glavnih ciljev.

    Provokacija

The Eleventh Pamphlet brings a translation of Stanisław Lem’s Provocation – a review of a nonexistent work by the equally fictitious author Horst Aspernicus: Der Völkermord. I. Die Endlösung als Erlösung II. Fremdkörper Tod (Göttingen, 1980). The text belongs to the genre of imaginary reviews, a form Lem mastered and used to grapple with a broad range of questions and themes. These, however, are not mere reviews, but rather spaces for intellectual play and for thought experiments. Provocation is one such work. First published in 1980, it is, in essence, Lem’s take on the Holocaust and the trauma that marked his youth in Lviv. He returned to these themes repeatedly in his writing, most explicitly in His Master’s Voice, Highcastle: A Remembrance, and Tales of Pirx the Pilot. In its fictitious thematisation of a traumatic historical events, Provocation is eerily relevant today, in an era of post-truth, escalating wars and violence, in a time when militarization erodes freedom, human rights, and care for others.Enajsti Pamflet prinaša prevod dela Stanisława Lema Provokacija. Gre za recenzijo izmišljenega dela izmišljenega avtorja Horsta Aspernicusa Der Völkermord. I. Die Endlösung als Erlösung II.

Izbrana dela iz Hrenovih kornih knjig 3 / Selected Works from the Hren Choirbooks 3. Tri maše / Three Masses

    No full text
This third volume of the selected musical pieces from the Hren choirbooks presents three settings of the Ordinary by Simone Gatto (c. 1545/50–1594/95), a Venetian musician active at the Inner-Austrian archducal court in Graz: a Missa Aller mi fault, a Missa Stabunt justi and a Missa Andra la nave mia. All three Masses are of the parody or imitation type, each derived from a pre-existing polyphonic composition. Specifically, Adrian Willaert’s five-part chanson Aller m’y faut sur la verdure and Orlando di Lasso’s five-part motet Stabunt justi serve as the models for two of the Masses, while the source for the third Mass remains unidentified. These compositions reflect the changing aesthetic preferences of the period, characterized by a heightened emphasis on colour contrast and word-painting. The Missa Andra la nave mia further exemplifies the increasing esteem for polychoral music at the Graz court towards the close of the sixteenth century, illustrating the growing influence of double-choir music in Inner Austria during this time. Gatto’s craftsmanship clearly marks out these three Masses as the product of an experienced composer.V tretjem zvezku izbranih del iz Hrenovih kornih knjig so objavljene tri uglasbitve mašnega ordinarija skladatelja Simoneja Gatta (ok. 1545/50–1594/95), beneškega glasbenika, ki je deloval na notranjeavstrijskem nadvojvodskem dvoru v Gradcu: Missa Aller mi fault, Missa Stabunt justi in Missa Andra la nave mia. Vse tri maše pripadajo tipu t. i. parodične maše.

Gasilski terminološki slovar ('The Terminological Dictionary of Firefighting') is the first scientific dictionary in Slovenian to cover the field of firefighting. The rich tradition of firefighting is also reflected in the maintenance of specialized literature, but the constant professional development and the transfer of knowledge from foreign language require standardization also in the terminology. The dictionary was compiled as a development and research task of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief in cooperation with the ZRC SAZU Fran Ramovš Institute for Slovenian Language and the Firefighting Association of Slovenia. The dictionary presents the field of fire protection and related activities, focusing on the protection of people, the environment and property — core values of every society. The terms are explained with terminological definitions that represent the conceptual system of Slovenian firefighting, which also includes terms from the fields of civil engineering, chemistry, mechanics and other scientific disciplines that are important for understanding and improving firefighting. Through the use of cross-references, the dictionary also provides assistance in the use of terms and should thus contribute to the standardization of terminology. The dictionary contains 2,256 entries, including 2,184 English and 2,275 German equivalents. The publication of the terminological dictionary of firefighting also achieves a broader goal: to raise awareness and strengthen the importance of firefighting in social consciousness and in science.

Tipni indeks slovenskih ljudskih pravljic. Čudežne pravljice I

    No full text
This book ('The Type Index of Slovenian Folktales – Tales of Magic 1') is a fundamental work in the field of narrative folklore, it reveals characteristics of Slovenian fairy tales, and places them in a content-related narrative folklore elsewhere in the world. By taking into account contemporary scientific achievements and the international classification system, it achieves a high scientific level and offers international comparability. According to the international calssifaying system ATU (Aarne-Thompson-Uther 2024) is the index divided into two parts: the first covers tales of magic classified into types from ATU 300 to ATU 499, while the second presents fairy tales classified into types from ATU 500 to ATU 745. In fairy tales we can perceive a rich tradition of narrative culture, oral story-telling, written sources and literary works from past eras and civilizations. The stories spread across the continents, making them one of humanity’s most widely shared treasures. At the same time, their constant adaptation to new environments shapes their distinct local identity, setting them apart from neighboring variants and giving the fairy tales of different nations local characteristics. By placing Slovenian tales of magic among content-related folk narrative material from other parts of the world, this type index enables a better recognition of Slovenian narrative folklore in an international context. Tipni indeks slovenskih čudežnih pravljic omogoča boljše razumevanje izročila in ustreznejšo prepoznavanje razvojne poti slovenskih folklornih pripovedi v mednarodnem prostoru

    Grad Rihemberk. Prva knjiga

    No full text
This interdisciplinary monograph presents Rihemberk Castle as one of the most important and striking castle architectures in the northern Primorska region and beyond. It provides information on the first settlement of the area in the Late Bronze Age and discusses the historical circumstances of the castle's construction in the Middle Ages under the first owners, the Lords of Reifenberg. Most of the contributions deal with the Lanthieri (after 1910 Levetzow-Lantieri) family, which, as owners of the castle in the modern period until 1947, had a significant influence not only on the development of the castle and its furnishings, but also on the life of Branik and the wider Gorizia region. The most important historical events connected with the castle, the artistic and cultural life of the castle, the involvement of its former inhabitants in the local community, its historical memory and the efforts to renovate and revive the castle, including its current winged inhabitants - the bats - are presented in detail. The in-depth contributions are also enriched by high-quality pictorial material, much of it from foreign and private archives.
