Iacobus Gallus: Opus musicum I/3. A dominica septuagesimae per quadragesimam de poenitentia
From the very beginning, one of the most important and ambitious goals of the MAMS collection has been publication of the collected works of Iacobus Handl-Gallus in a modern transcription tailored to the needs of contemporary performers. The publication of his famous collection of motets, Opus musicum, consisting of four books containing a total of 374 motets, partially achieved this goal in 1990. The transcriptions and critical commentaries were prepared by Edo Škulj, and Gallus’s motets were published in thirteen volumes between 1985 and 1990. The edition is enriched by numerous facsimiles from Gallus’s original prints, published between 1586 and 1590 by the Prague printer Georg Nigrin (Jiří Černý).
Gallus divided the first book of his Opus musicum (1586) into three sections, which have been retained in the MAMS edition. The third volume (I/3) consists of 4-, 5-, 6- and 8-part motets for the pre-Lenten (Septuagesima) and Lenten (Quadragesima) seasons of the church year.
The 2024 digitized post-edition is accompanied by a new preface and an introductory study by Dr Marc Desmet that summarizes and compiles all recent findings about the composer and his work.
In this monograph ('From Folk Theatre to Heritage Staging'), the author presents in a modern theoretical and conceptual way the contemporary forms of occurrence, transformation and diversity of folk theatre in Slovenia. She is especially interested in the functions and the role of the selected examples of contemporary folk theatre for various communities. She uses selected examples of contemporary folk theatre and field research to present possible connections between the selected examples and tries to answer the question “Why stage your own heritage?”.
Empirically-based research on contemporary folk theatre brings an in-depth analysis of heritage staging up to 2022 and is complemented by fieldwork and interviews. A thoughtful selection of examples has been made in order to show the diversity of contemporary folk theatres, while outlining different approaches and ways of staging cultural heritage. The monograph presents a collection of various examples of contemporary folk theatre in Slovenia, offers insight into one of the possible approaches to researching the theory and content of this sort of folk performances and opens up new questions for further research. In this monograph ('From Folk Theatre to Heritage Staging'), the author presents in a modern theoretical and conceptual way the contemporary forms of occurrence, transformation and diversity of folk theatre in Slovenia. Naše znanstvenice. Kako so ženske soustvarjale znanost v Jugoslaviji
The book ('Our Women Scientists. How women co-created science in Yugoslavia') is conceived as a collection of articles about women scientists who have taken their field “one step further”. By this we mean women researchers, professors, innovators, authors of a significant scientific breakthrough or discovery, a patent, or women who have introduced new practices and methods in their academic field, founded an institute or department, or created the conditions for the development of new scientific disciplines.
The professional biographies of the 27 women presented in this book show what the pursuit of science actually means. The women’s scientific contribution is narrated through their work and their life stories, because the professional/public can never be separated from the private/intimate. The question of who does research can never be separated from what they research and how they do it. The essays also tell the story of the broader social contribution that women scientists have made, which goes far beyond narrowly defined scientific work. In this way, the book also aims to change the understanding of what science is as a process of knowledge production, as human labor, as social practice, and as vocation.
Profesionalne biografije 27 žensk predstavljenih v tej knjigi odkrijejo veliko več plasti tega kaj ukavrjanje z znanostjo dejansko zaobjema.
Poskus rekonstrukcije neuresničenega Narodnega muzeja v Gorici. 1910–1914
The establishment of the Slovenian National Museum in Gorica and its creation before the First World War was undoubtedly a nationally progressive act in Gorica, equally and evenly embedded in the conditions through which the social development of all Slovenians took place. The explanation of this situation among Slovenians was specially dedicated to facilitate understanding of the conditions that paved the way for cultural phenomena and activities, including those that took care of cultural heritage and its preservation in institutions such as museums, libraries and archives and related private collections held by individuals or in institutions (parish archives , libraries of various societies, schools) particularly important in the western Slovenian ethnic fringe. The monograph mainly deals with the questions of how the Slovenian museum was created, who were its initiators and implementers, who were the donors and what they donated for the emerging museum collection. The book is therefore also an attempt to mentally reconstruct this unrealized museum on the basis of accessible literature and sources, among which the local newspapers of the time, Soča and Gorica, are especially important, whose content gives us an insight into historical facts, and also reveals the life of the population of Goriška region at the time.
Priročnik za integriteto, etiko in enakost spolov v raziskovalnih organizacijah ('The Handbook on Integrity, Ethics and Gender Equality in Research Organisations') is designed to help higher education institutions and research performing organisations address issues of ethics, integrity and gender equality through institutional change. It provides a set of guidelines for organisations to establish and complement institutional mechanisms that enable systematic attention to research ethics and integrity as well as gender equality in research.
The Handbook will assist the management and decision-making bodies of scientific research organisations in shaping institutional policies; it will be useful to administrative and professional staff in implementing them; it as at disposal to members of committees responsible for these areas; and finally, it could help those working in research to initiate the improvements needed in their organisations.
The Handbook was prepared as part of the project "Ethics, Integrity and Gender Equality in the Research Area of Slovenia: between Policies and their Implementation" (2021–2023), which is funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency.

The Roman conquest beyond Aquileia (II-I centuries BC)
The increase in archaeological knowledge sheds new light on the presence of the Roman army and conflict archaeology in the Caput Adriae region and on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. The nine contributions by 19 authors from four countries (Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Austria) summarise the historical, epigraphic and archaeological evidence. The main part of the book is devoted to the northern Adriatic and its hinterland in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. The topography of the first year of the Histrian War (178-177 BC) is examined in the context of a historical debate. The archaeological evidence of the early Roman military presence is discussed in the chapters on the military camps of San Rocco and Grociana piccola, the beginnings of Tergeste on the hill of San Giusto, the conflicts with the autochthonous population, and the epigraphic evidence of the Roman army. The remains of the early Roman camps provide a new insight into the landscape of central Dalmatia. On the basis of written sources, the Roman offensive policy in the southern Adriatic, in the Ionian region and in the interior of the Balkans is analysed.V knjigi devetnajst avtorjev iz štirih držav (Italije, Slovenije, Hrvaške in Avstrije) predstavlja zgodovinske, epigrafske in arheološke dokaze o prisotnosti rimske vojske in o sledovih spopadov na območju Caput Adriae ter na vzhodni obali Jadrana. Večina prispevkov je posvečena severnemu Jadranu in njegovemu zaledju v 2. in 1. stoletju pr. Kr. Topografija prvega leta histrske vojne (178–177 pr. Kr.) je analizirana s pomočjo zgodovinskih virov. Arheološki dokazi o zgodnji rimski vojaški prisotnosti so obravnavani v več poglavjih: o vojaških taborih Koromačnik in Mala Gročanica, o začetkih Tergesta na hribu Sv. Justa, o spopadih z avtohtonim prebivalstvom in o epigrafskih sledeh rimske vojske. Ostanki zgodnjerimskih taborov ponujajo nov vpogled tudi v pokrajino srednje Dalmacije.
Between Ravenna and Constantinople. Rethinking Late Antique Settlement Patterns
The book presents the settlement in a period of European history (late 3rd to early 7th century) when the highly exposed areas between the Late Antique capitals in Ravenna and Constantinople underwent a radical transformation. The relentless pressure of barbarian populations from beyond the Roman limes resulted in political, military, economic and social changes that finally led to the decline of the former forms of human habitation. Cities in the continental parts were largely abandoned or continued in heavily reduced and ruralised skeletons of their former selves; only the urban centres along the coasts of the Mediterranean met a kinder fate. Other forms of lowland settlement, primarily the once prominent Roman villas, ceased to exist as early as the middle of the 5th century. The population began retreating to remote areas and naturally well-protected hilltop settlements of an autarchic character, where the achievements of the ancient civilisation were upheld to the late 6th century. Alongside these, there was a series of forts constructed under the Emperor Justinian, which show a carefully thought-out system defending the lines of communications between the two capitals. The book offers a comprehensive overview of the mass of characteristic cities, lowland hamlets and fortified settlements illustrated with plans, maps and photographs, but also an interpretation of the profound transformation of the settlement patterns.
Affect’s Social Lives. Post-Yugoslav Reflections
Why is the talk about Yugoslavia still emotionally charged and situated in the registers of passion, pain, sentimental recollections, or nostalgia even 30 years after its violent dissolution? How is the sphere of the affective, sensory, and embodied fundamental to understanding the historical project of Yugoslavia and its afterlives? Social Lives of Affect: Post-Yugoslav Reflections addresses these questions and explores how the attempts to conceptually capture our social realities in their messy, fluid, and indeterminate natures contribute to a nuanced understanding of the complex sociopolitical processes in the region. Moreover, the book shows how using affect to understand social realities in their constant transformation often challenges not only the expected politics of belonging, identification, and solidarity but also how we (as scholars) give them sociopolitical meaning. It allows observing the social dynamics beyond an exclusive focus on the ethno-national (and increasingly racial) differences emphasized in the scholarly examinations of Yugoslavia.
Slovenci in cesarska cenzura od Jožefa II. do prve svetovne vojne / Slovenians and imperial censorship from Joseph II to the First World War. Katalog razstave v Narodni in univerzitetni knjižnici / Catalogue of the exhibition in the National and University Library
Censorship is an inexhaustible and eternally relevant topic. In the history of encounters between Slovenians and censorship, the period between the reign of Joseph II and the First World War, which brought about the end of the monarchy, was one of the most interesting and dynamic eras. During this period, which is almost symmetrically divided into two parts by the 1848 revolution, Slovenian secular literature was formed from the anthology Pisanice onwards, the first newspapers in Slovenian emerged, and the national movement was strengthened. Imperial censorship had a significant role in the shaping of all of these processes: until 1848, in the form of the dominant pre-censorship, which was instrumentalised by the police-censorship network of the notorious Vormärz duo Metternich-Sedlnitzky; after the March Revolution the dominant form was post-censorship, which mercilessly reined in problematic authors with the help of the judicial apparatus. The richly illustrated catalogue, prepared for the exhibition Slovenians and Imperial Censorship from Joseph II to the First World War (National and University Library, 25 May – 25 November 2023), was carefully designed to show the crucial role of censorship in shaping Slovenian literature and culture. The catalogue is complemented by the “imagined” edition of Slavinja — a newspaper that was not allowed to appear during the pre-March period.
Published by National and University Library (Ljubljana).Cenzura je neizčrpna in večno aktualna tema.
