Slovenske selitve v socializmu
The book is a comprehensive study of voluntary and forced migration in Slovenia and the organisation of the Slovenian diaspora around the world in the period 1945-1991. For the first time in one place, the monograph presents the social, economic and cultural aspects of Slovenian emigration from the end of the Second World War to the independence of Slovenia, which are embedded in the more recent historical development in Slovenia and in the broader context of European migration. Slovenian Migration under Socialism draws on existing domestic and international academic literature, with additional examination of those sources, themes and issues that have been left out of previous interests and are essential for situating the issue within broader historical developments. The book situates migration, especially the various forms of emigration, in the history of Slovenian and European space, highlighting the organisation of Slovenian emigrants and the life stories of the actors involved in these processes. In this way, the book aims to bring the subjective experiences and experiences of migration closer to the readers, both of those who left and of those who stayed behind.
At a time when the external borders of Europe and the entire West are being reinforced more than ever, and the inhabitants of the Global South are being reduced to less than nothing, any theoretical intervention that disrupts this hardened consensus is especially welcome. Heins and Wolff, on the one hand, provide a wealth of empirical material — particularly valuable are their insights into the (para-)agency Frontex — and, on the other, return to fundamental reflections on the effects of enclosure on the internal dynamics of society. A society that closes itself off is, of course, no longer open; however, this does not necessarily mean it is simply closed, tyrannical, and restrictive. The transformation produced by obsessive enclosure from the outside is much more complex, far more elusive, and, in the long run, significantly more dangerous. Some may believe they know what awaits us at the end of this path. But if the process continues in the direction in which political and fabricated popular consensus wishes to push us, the final destination will be so foreign and inhospitable that we, too, will wish to flee.V času, ko se bolj kot kdaj prej utrjujejo zunanje meje Evrope in celotnega Zahoda, prebivalci globalnega Juga pa so reducirani na manj kot nič, je vsaka teoretska intervencija, ki zareže v ta do konca strjeni konsenz, izjemno dobrodošla.

Access to Information on the Posting of Workers. Construction Companies’ Practices And Challenges
This book presents the issue of access to information in the posting of workers. The authors identify and assess the practices and challenges of construction companies involved in the posting of workers, either as posting companies sending their workers to provide a service from one European Union (EU) country to another or as a user company that receives the services provided by posting companies and their posted workers. The chapters in this book contribute to the debates on the posting of workers by filling a gap in understanding how transnational posting companies and user or receiving companies find and use information in their interaction with national institutions and how that affects their overall performance in terms of the correct application of the posting rules and the protection of labour and social standards. The studies focus on the specific case of the construction sector as one of the main sectors where posting occurs and where both larger companies and SMEs as well as self-employed are active. Consequently, this sector covers a great diversity of “companies”, allowing for a stratified understanding of posting and receiving companies’ challenges.
Nietzsche in neubesedljiva misel
Nietzsche in neubesedljiva misel ('Nietzsche and the Unspeakable Thought') is Aleš Bunta’s second book on the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, after Uničiti nič? ('To Annihilate Nothing?', 2007). The motif of the unspeakable thought in Nietzsche’s work is usually associated with the theme of the “eternal recurrence”. In Bunta’s study, too, the eternal return takes centre stage, but gradually. In the first chapter, the study first discusses the motif of the unspeakable as such and in relation to the fundamental incongruity of language and becoming. In the second chapter, it looks at Nietzsche’s unusual presentation of the eternal return in Thus Spoke Zarathustra, which is supposed to speak of the eternal return, but which does not speak of it in the usual sense at all. It is only in the third chapter that the discussion focuses on Nietzsche’s original unpublished derivations of the eternal return and explains the ontological, epistemological and psychological dimensions of the doctrine. Chapter 4 is devoted to another key Nietzschean theme, the critique of objectivity, through which the discussion returns in Chapter 5 to the topics of silence and the ineffable, but this time in the context of the problem of a philosophical act.Nietzsche in neubesedljiva misel je po Uničiti nič? (2007) druga knjiga Aleša Bunte o filozofiji Friedricha Nietzscheja.
Šolski etimološki slovar slovenskega jezika 2023 ('Learner's Etymological Dictionary of Slovene 2023') is based on the need to provide younger users, who as yet lack sufficient linguistic and historical background to gain insight into the history and prehistory of the words they use on a daily basis. With this in mind, the etymological explanations are provided in a simplified manner without compromising scholarly veracity.
The entry term is followed by an indication of whether the word is inherited or borrowed. If the word is inherited and arose within the Slovene language, the explanation continues with its word-formation history, followed by its etymological meaning. If a word arose during the Proto-Slavic periods, the explanation provides related words from a selection of Slavic languages and a Proto-Slavic reconstruction, followed by an etymological explanation. If a word is older, the Proto-Slavic reconstruction is followed by material from other Indo-European languages, the presentation of its original form or at least the root and related words, followed by an etymological explanation and, if possible, the original meaning. If a word is borrowed, its foreign source is presented, followed by its etymological explanation.Šolski etimološki slovar slovenskega jezika 2023 je zasnovan na potrebi, da tudi mladostniki s še ne zadostnim jezikoslovnim in zgodovinskim znanjem dobijo vpogled v zgodovino in predzgodovino besed, ki jih vsakodnevno uporabljajo.
Epidemije in zdravstvo. Zgodovinski pregled
The monograph ('Epidemics and Healthcare: a Historical Perspective') examines epidemics and infectious diseases, health crises and the development of healthcare between the Middle Ages and the 20th century in the area of present-day Slovenia and parts of Croatia from various perspectives. The texts collected in the book re-evaluate the current understanding of epidemics in Slovenian historiography, complement and improve the knowledge of the topics from the perspective of the social history of medicine, and some of them, as a result of completely new insights and approaches, establish new starting points for future historical research on epidemics and healthcare.
In thirteen chapters, historians and an art historian present newly researched topics such as plague epidemics in 17th-century Carniola and Styria, plague paintings in medieval mural painting in Slovenia, environmental-historical perspectives on the cordon sanitaire in the Military Frontier, the situation of the elderly during the cholera epidemics of the 19th century, and the spread of malaria between the two world wars. Several chapters present the health situation during the wars, namely during the First World War among refugees in Austria-Hungary and in the city of Ljubljana, old-age debility as a cause of death in Pula between 1910 and 1915, and the organisation of partisan healthcare, with an emphasis on the Slovenian Central Military Partisan Hospital during the WWII. Last but not least, illness and the body as metaphor are discussed in the chapter on the pre-modern political thought of the early 18th-century Carniola nobleman Franz Albert Pelzhoffer.V monografiji so iz različnih vidikov obravnavane epidemije in nalezljive bolezni, zdravstvene krize in razvoj zdravstva v obdobjih med srednjim vekom in 20. stoletjem na območju današnje Slovenije in v delu Hrvaške.
Nenazadnje sta bolezen in telo kot metafora obravnavana v poglavju o predmoderni politični misli kranjskega plemiča Franza Alberta Pelzhofferja z začetka 18. stoletja
Iacobus Gallus: Opus musicum II/2. Lamentationes Ieremiae Prophetae
From the very beginning, one of the most important and ambitious goals of the MAMS collection has been publication of the collected works of Iacobus Handl-Gallus in a modern transcription tailored to the needs of contemporary performers. The publication of his famous collection of motets, Opus musicum, consisting of four books containing a total of 374 motets, partially achieved this goal in 1990. The transcriptions and critical commentaries were prepared by Edo Škulj, and Gallus’s motets were published in thirteen volumes between 1985 and 1990. The edition is enriched by numerous facsimiles from Gallus’s original prints, published between 1586 and 1590 by the Prague printer Georg Nigrin (Jiří Černý).
Gallus divided the second book of his Opus musicum (1587) into four sections, which have been retained in the MAMS edition. The second volume (II/2) consists of settings of the Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah for two four-part choirs, settings of two psalms and an eight-part motet. These compositions are intended for the liturgy of Holy Week.
The 2024 digitized post-edition is accompanied by a new preface and an introductory study by Dr Marc Desmet that summarizes and compiles all recent findings about the composer and his work.
