    Gasilski terminološki slovar

Gasilski terminološki slovar ('The Terminological Dictionary of Firefighting') is the first scientific dictionary in Slovenian to cover the field of firefighting. The rich tradition of firefighting is also reflected in the maintenance of specialized literature, but the constant professional development and the transfer of knowledge from foreign language require standardization also in the terminology. The dictionary was compiled as a development and research task of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief in cooperation with the ZRC SAZU Fran Ramovš Institute for Slovenian Language and the Firefighting Association of Slovenia. The dictionary presents the field of fire protection and related activities, focusing on the protection of people, the environment and property — core values of every society. The terms are explained with terminological definitions that represent the conceptual system of Slovenian firefighting, which also includes terms from the fields of civil engineering, chemistry, mechanics and other scientific disciplines that are important for understanding and improving firefighting. Through the use of cross-references, the dictionary also provides assistance in the use of terms and should thus contribute to the standardization of terminology. The dictionary contains 2,256 entries, including 2,184 English and 2,275 German equivalents. The publication of the terminological dictionary of firefighting also achieves a broader goal: to raise awareness and strengthen the importance of firefighting in social consciousness and in science.

Arhitektura v svetu. Rancière in Gage – Riha – Čeferin – Badiou

The book Arhitektura v svetu ('Architecture in the World') examines the possibility of developing architecture as one of the practices that are able to operate in the world in such a way as to open it up, to reveal it in its constitutive openness; that is, in that dimension that every regime tries to conceal, including the current regime of contemporary capitalism. This practice of architecture is what in the book is referred to as "architecture in the world.” This is a practice of architecture that establishes itself and appears in the world by simultaneously building the world and transforming it, reconstructing it. It consitututes itself in the world together with the world it constitutes. The contributions in the book focus not only on architecture but on other fields of thought as well, including art, philosophy and politics. They are, however, linked by a common problem: the problem of outlining the possibility of a way of thinking and acting in the world that at the same time constitutes a reconstructing of the given world. Jacques Ranciere and Mark Foster Gage discuss the connections between politics and aesthetics in relation to architecture. Rado Riha examines contemporary art through Kant’s concept of reflective power of judgment. Collection's editor, Petra Čeferin, discusses Plečnik’s architectural constructions of public space as a possible source of support for intellectual emancipation. The book concludes with a text by Alain Badiou in which he responds to the question: To be happy, must we change the world?

Iacobus Gallus: Selectiores quaedam missae, Liber II

From the very beginning, one of the most important and ambitious goals of the MAMS collection has been publication of the collected works of Iacobus Handl-Gallus in a modern transcription tailored to the needs of contemporary performers. After the publication of his famous collection of motets, Opus musicum, in thirteen volumes (1985–1990), Edo Škulj edited a four-volume edition of Gallus’s masses in 1991. The edition is enriched by facsimiles from Gallus’s original collection, Selectiores quaedam missae, published in 1580 by the Prague printer Georg Nigrin (Jiří Černý). Gallus divided his Missarum into four books. The second book (Liber II) contains four 6-part settings of the Mass Ordinary. The 2025 digitized post-edition is accompanied by a new preface and an introductory study by Dr Marc Desmet that summarizes and compiles all recent findings about the composer and his work.

The monograph deals with Baron Sigmund Zois (1747‒1819) as a central figure of the last two decades of the eighteenth and the first two decades of the nineteenth century in the Duchy of Carniola and in the Slovenian lands. Its purpose is not to comprehensively capture all dimensions of Zois’s life and work, but to present the latest research in this field and thus stimulate new research, since archival sources are far from exhausted. The authors of the monograph deal with Zois’s Enlightenment, poetry and linguistics, his accomplishments for the development of the Slovenian language in the Illyrian Provinces and the Habsburg Monarchy, his geological activities, library, palace in Breg in Ljubljana, gardens in Ljubljana and Brdo pri Kranju, preserved personal objects, as well as the musical activities, cultural patronage and iron foundries of the Zois family. Studies confirm that Zois’s efforts made a permanent contribution to the development of science and art in Carniola and significantly accelerated the development of Slovenians into a modern European nation. Genocid v Gazi in selektivni spomin/odziv mednarodne skupnosti

    No full text
Omer Bartov's text is addressed to those who are shocked by the Palestinian agony in Gaza and cannot accept that the slogan "Never Again" has been with us for more than two years, returning in the tracks of the tanks and the missiles of the planes of the descendants of the victims who created this euphemism for genocide in the first place. As a historian and former Israeli soldier, he warns that "Never Again" is being misused to legitimize disproportionate violence against Palestinians. He argues that Israel perceives any resistance as an existential threat, which leads to excessive reactions and civilian casualties. He also criticizes the West for legitimizing this violence through its support for Israel. In his view, dealing with historical trauma in this way undermines international law and moral authority. He calls for the suffering of all victims to be recognized and for ethical reflection on the memory of past crimes.

Jeffrey D. Sachs is a renown American economist and advisor to numerous governments and international organizations. Recently, he stands out as an outspoken critic of the U.S. foreign policy, especially of the wars in Ukraine and in the occupied Palestine, and of the incitement to war against China. A distinctive quality of his critique is the first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of the American and global political establishment. This comes to expression in the speech he gave to the European Parliament in February 2025, which gives a very informative and realistic account of the causes of, and the path to, the war in Ukraine. In this speech he argues that Europe should have its own foreign policy and that it should enter negotiations with Russia instead of trying to prolong the lost U.S. caused and led war.Jeffrey D. Sprotni slovar slovenskega jezika 2024 ('Growing Dictionary of the Slovenian Language 2024'), in 327 entries, brings newer, emerging words not yet included in other dictionaries, suggested mainly by language users. To a lesser extent, the newest meanings of words already present in other dictionaries, such as bliskovni ‘flash’, čuječnost ‘mindfulness’, družabništvo ‘uninstitutional elderly care’, rjavček ‘brownie’, or new multi-word units, e. g. kultura izključevanja ‘cancel culture’, polarni vrtinec/vorteks ‘polar vortex’, are also included. Iztočnice so opremljene s polnimi oblikoslovnimi podatki in temeljnimi podatki o pomenu, rabi in morebitni zaznamovanosti besede.

The monograph ('The Beginnings of Slovene Narrative Prose'), the first edition of which was published online in 2021, places the beginnings of original Slovene narrative prose in a broader literary context. The emergence of the first original Slovene narrative, Janez Cigler’s Sreča v nesreči ('Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining'), first published in 1836, is examined in the continuity of translations of narrative works into Slovene since the 17th century, with a focus on the period of the 1820s and 1830s, which created fertile ground and literary patterns that Cigler transformed into an original Slovene version of the Biedermeier. The second part of the monograph examines the reception and canonisation of Sreča v nesreči through a text-critical analysis of its editions over a period of more than 150 years and in a broader context, including the question of its placement in the system of Slovenian literature from the perspective of its addressee. Both parts of the research are supported by quantitative stylometric analyses that examine, confirm and complement this research with new perspectives and, among other things, reveal the incorrect authorship attribution of some works. Drugi del monografije preučuje recepcijo in kanonizacijo Sreče v nesreči preko tekstnokritične analize njenih izdaj v več kot 150-letnem obdobju in v širšem kontekstu, vključno z vprašanjem uvrščanja Sreče v nesreči v sistem slovenske literature z vidika naslovnika.
