Geometria kvadratických plôch
Vlastnosti kvadratických plôch študujeme kvôli názornosti v trojrozmernom euklidovskom priestore a to pomocou analytického prístupu. Metódou rezov vytvárame názorné predstavy o tvare a umiestnení takých plôch v priestore, akými sú guľová plocha, elipsoidy, paraboloidy a hyperboloidy. Okrem toho sa venujeme aj štúdiu vzájomného prieniku lineárnych útvarov a týchto plôch, čo je kľúčové pre ich aplikácie v rôznych technických odboroch.Ministerstvo školstva, výskumu, vývoja a mládeže SR 08I01-20-V05-00002 Strategický rozvoj infraštruktúry konzorcia UMB a UKF

Tyranny and the crisis of the elites
In: Conversatoria Litteraria : międzynarodowy rocznik naukowy. Siedlce : Uniwersytet Przyrodniczo-Humanistyczny w Siedlcach, 2024. ISSN 1897-1423. Roč. 18 (2024), s. 26-36.The article is based on Ján Jessenius’s work Against Tyrants (2019). At the beginning, the author examines Jessenius’s political activity primarily during his stay in Prague, the causes and consequences of his unsuccessful attempt to gain a position at the court of the Habsburgs in the context of governmentenforced centralism and Catholicism. Against Tyrants is analysed from the perspective of confrontation of the estates and absolutist model of the state. The author also examines the cultural and legislative background of the text, and above all the idea of the legal right to resist the king, which led to Jessenius’s execution as a rebel and an opponent of the king. The conclusion offers an update of the contextual metaphor of the tyrant by deed in relation to the toxicity of authority and the crisis of the elites

Addressing power imbalances in research and translation studies
In: World literature studies : časopis pre výskum svetovej literatúry. Bratislava : Ústav svetovej literatúry SAV, 2024. ISSN 1337-9275. Vol. 16, no. 3 (2024), pp. 108-125.The upheavals of recent years have underscored the depth of global interconnectedness, with events like the COVID-19 pandemic, advancements in AI, and armed conflicts prompting swift and unpredictable economic and social changes worldwide. In particular, the discussion delves into the power dynamics within academia, the unequal positioning of researchers in the global knowledge market, and the fundamental right of translation within economic relationships. Drawing from a conference held in Bratislava, Slovakia, in September 2023, this article addresses issues of translation and interpreting-related power dynamics against the backdrop of contemporary political, economic, and cultural developments. Speakers from diverse backgrounds explore how academia can respond to prevailing power hierarchies and disparities in visibility, and whether such structures can be challenged or altered. The discussion extends to the subjectivity inherent in research, including sources of funding, national affiliations, and personal values. Ethical considerations surrounding researcher positionality and appropriating research topics are scrutinized, with a focus on inclusivity and participation. The article emphasizes the importance of considering diverse perspectives and ensuring representation in research teams, particularly when studying topics related to minority groups. Overall, the dialogue offers insights into navigating power dynamics within academia, advocating for ethical research practices, and promoting inclusivity in scholarly pursuits. Historical-geographical analysis of weather extremes in the first half of the 18th century (the time of Matej Bel) on the territory of Slovakia
In: Dejiny : internetový časopis Inštitútu histórie FF PU v Prešove. Prešov : Inštitút histórie Filozofickej fakulty Prešovskej univerzity, 2024. ISSN 1337-0707. Roč. 19, č. 1 (2024), s. 10-33.Historical-geographical analysis of weather extremes in the first half of the 18 th century (the time of Matej Bel) on the territory of Slovakia. The study presents a historical-geographical analysis of the weather and its extreme impacts in the landscape, its effects on the economy and human life in the period of the first half of the 18th century, which is also referred to as the era of Matej Bel. Chronologically reconstructs these events on the territory of Upper Hungary, i.e. j. the territory of today’s Slovakia. The subject of the research were all events that deviated from the long-term course of the weather in a given period - extreme frosts, snow calamities, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, windstorms, floods, droughts, etc. The weather in the studied period was strongly influenced by the most extreme period within the Little Ice Age, which lasted in the Western Carpathians from about the 15th century to the middle of the 19 th century. It was called the Maunder Minimum (1645–1715) and was characterized by a significant decrease in solar activity. This led to significant cooling and the emergence of extreme situations and weather instability. Weather extremes were also described by Matej Bel in his work called „Notitia“. He focused directly on the events he experienced in his life and on his travels - heavy snow cover in the mountains, frosts, storms, floods, droughts, etc.VEGA 1/0770/24 Zaniknutá krajina Mateja Bela (rekonštrukcia a environmentálne dejiny historickej krajiny v 18. storočí
Slovak mimicry of online content moderation on digital platforms as a result of the adoption of the European digital services act
In: Media Literacy and Academic Research : scientific journal. Trnava : Univerzita sv. Cyrila a Metoda v Trnave, 2024. ISSN 2585-8726. Vol. 7, no. 2 (2024), pp. 81-95.The global nature of digital platforms, particularly social media, highlights the lack of a unified legal framework to regulate the content which is distributed to users. This issue is not only about the quality of the content but often concerns its problematic nature, which may conflict with the legal systems of various countries, especially the member states of the European Union. Examples include hate speech, terrorist content, discriminatory material, or images depicting child sexual abuse. Digital platforms frequently argue that they are not responsible for the nature of this content, as they merely facilitate its publication and do not create it themselves, thus claiming they should not be held legally accountable. This article examines the research question of how the recently adopted European Digital Services (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 October 2022 on a Single Market for Digital Services and amending Directive 2000/31/EC (Digital Services Act), 2022) might change the current paradigm using various legal tools. The Act aims to effectively regulate online intermediaries and platforms, including marketplaces, social networks, content-sharing platforms, app stores, and online travel and accommodation services. Through a critical analysis of the provisions of the Digital Services Act, related legislation, court decisions, and the actual behaviour of digital platforms, the authors reassess the effectiveness of different mechanisms intended for moderating content on these platforms. The primary objective is to determine the shift in the legal boundaries of digital platforms’ responsibility for shared content, particularly regarding newly defined obligations related to user safety and new information requirements for digital platforms, such as reporting to European supervisory authorities. Special attention is given to the increased legal protection of minors using digital platforms, particularly regarding the absolute prohibition of profiling them for online advertising, as stipulated in Article 28 of the Digital Services Act. This provision complements the relevant rules set out in Article 22 of GDPR. The general tightening of conditions for presenting advertisements online is intended to curb the use of personalized advertising, which often relies on the (impermissible) profiling of ad recipients using special categories of personal data, such as racial or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, biometric data, and more. In the article, the authors also discuss potential challenges in the practical implementation of the Digital Services Act in individual member states of the European Union, considering the specifics of national legislation. To illustrate these challenges, the article provides an analysis of the legislative realities in Slovakia as a model example.VEGA 1/0013/23 Európske mimikry algoritmického riadenia obsahu pracovnoprávneho vzťahu v slovenskej právnej úprave v dôsledku transpozície prameňov európskeho pracovného práva a revidovaného uplatnenia GDP

Perception of selected financing options in start-ups by generation Z
In: Acta aerarii publici : vedecký časopis Ekonomickej fakulty Univerzity Mateja Bela v Banskej Bystrici. Banská Bystrica : Vydavateľstvo Univerzity Mateja Bela - Belianum, 2024. ISSN 1336-8818. Roč. 21, č. 1 (2024), s. 83-93.The current generation of young people is growing up in an era that is strongly influenced by digital technologies and the Internet, characterized by fears of stereotypes, but also by flexibility, non-conflict and temporary work. From this point of view, regular work in a company can appear undynamic, and starting one's own business is becoming more and more popular. The characteristics of generation Z can also greatly influence the perception of ways of financing businesses and the resulting form of business itself. The presented scientific article is focused on the perception of selected methods of financing, which fundamentally differ in start-ups and in other types of business. The aim of the article is, based on a questionnaire survey, to analyze and compare the perception of selected methods of financing in companies by generation Z with regard to the financing of start-ups. The results assume the differentiation of the preferences of generation Z in individual areas and the determination of whether this generation is more inclined to traditional or alternative or risky forms of financing.APVV-21-0363 Obmedzenia a limity metód merania výkonnosti v miestnej samospráve - problém heterogenity poskytovania služieb

A new insight on the genus Pteridium (Dennstaedtiaceae) in Europe based on a revision in the flora of Slovakia
In: Botanical Studies. New York : Springer Science+Business Media, 2024. ISSN 1817-406X. Vol. 65, no. 1 (2024), pp. 1-11.Background The genus Pteridium Gled. ex Scop. was thought to be monotypic with the cosmopolitan species P. aquilinum (L.) Kuhn. for many years. However, morphological variations among these plants in different regions have been noted since the 1940’s, leading to the description of new taxa later. Molecular investigations, while not resolving all taxonomical questions within the genus, have highlighted its rich genetic diversity globally, confirming the status of several previously described species and subspecies. This wealth of data has prompted revisions of the Pteridium genus in regional floras, with Northern Eurasia serving as a central arena for such studies in the last 30 years. Recent data suggest that the European flora comprises a single species, P. aquilinum, with two subspecies, P. a. subsp. aquilinum and P. a. subsp. pinetorum (C.N. Page & R.R. Mill) J.A. Thomson. However, their distribution within the continent remains unclear. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate the representation and distribution of Pteridium taxa in Slovakia with an attempt to describe natural ranges of P. aquilinum subspecies based on herbarium materials and citizen science data within Europe for a whole.
Results It is confirmed that the genus Pteridium is represented by the single species with two mentioned subspecies in the flora of Europe, as well as in the flora of Slovakia. The distribution of these subspecies is mapped in the country. Additionally, we discuss the ranges of these subspecies for a whole, and we evidence the growth of P. aquilinum subsp. pinetorum within the Netherlands, Czechia, Austria, Hungary and Romania for the first time. Also, two new combinations of taxa from the Asian part of Russia are offered.
Conclusion Our study is a significant contribution in the present knowledge about the distribution and taxonomy of P. aquilinum, however it also shows that many questions concerning this taxon and its infraspecific taxa remain open. Additional field investigations and herbarium processing should be carried out for detailed explorations of biological and ecological peculiarities of the mentioned subspecies, and for the clear understanding of their regional distribution. Such explorations also might become a basis for new syntaxonomic revisions.VEGA 2/0132/21 Diverzita lúčnych a pasienkových biotopov Slovenska po dvoch dekádach v Európskej úni
Obraz postsovietskej spoločnosti v mnohohlasnom literárnom spomínaní
In: Acheron : Acta Historica et Orientalia Neosoliensia : študentský historický časopis. Banská Bystrica : Študentská historická spoločnosť pri Katedre histórie FF UMB v Banskej Bystrici, 2024. ISSN 1339-6870.
