El Principio de oralidad como mecanismo y garantía de transparencia y legitimidad en la toma de decisiones judiciales
In: Revista de la Asociación de profesores de derecho procesal de las Universidades Españolas. Valencia : Tirant Lo Blanch, 2024. ISSN 2695-9976. No. 9 (2024), pp. 189-225.The perception of the proceedings as fair is inextricably linked to publicity, transparency, and access of the parties to the court. The principle of orality acts as a counterpart to the principle of literacy, although at present we encounter rather a combination of these elements, and correlates with the other principles of the process. The application of the oral principle in the civil process has obvious advan- tages, it is worth pointing out that in principle, it must be applied in the phases and activities in which it is effective; without necessarily excluding the document from the process as an instrument helpful, sometimes even necessary. Orality on its own is not a guarantee of fair procedure. And if there is an oral element in the proceed- ing, it does not automatically mean that it is an orality. Currently, the principle of orality is confronted with the use of modern technical means of communication and we can see an inclination to written form in the proceedings, either in our country or on a European scale
Evaluation of the soil quality using health index in temperate European conditions (Slovak Republic)
In: Environmental earth sciences. Berlín : Springer Nature, 2024. ISSN 1866-6280. Vol. 83, no. 20 (2024), pp. [1-14].Land users and policy makers recognize importance of soil health and these types of evaluations are welcomed within sustainable land management. The aim of this study was to establish minimum and maximum values of soil health index across the breadth of agricultural used soils of Slovakia. Core objectives included (1) identifying the range of soil health benchmarks; (2) defining benchmarks for different land uses, and (3) defining benchmarks of soil health index for main groups of agricultural soils in Slovakia. These benchmarks represent the first soil health metrics of their kind in Slovakia using data from 266 locations. The soil health index (SHI) approach has been used as a quantitative tool to establish linkage between soil health and soil ecosystem services. We recorded the highest average SHI value in the very warm climatic region of the Slovak Republic, where the majority of agriculturally used arable soils (with an optimal pH value without contamination) are located. The locality with lowest SHI value is in a slightly warm area on soil used as arable soil with a very small depth of humus horizon, with by the pH value in an acidic area, and with a high content of clay. The typical SHI in humus-rich soil groups of Slovakia (Mollic Fluvisols, Chernozems and Cutanhic Luvisols) is higher contrasted with the typical SHI in other soil groups of Slovakia.APVV-18-0035 Oceňovanie ekosystémových služieb prírodného kapitálu ako nástroja hodnotenia sociálno-ekonomického potenciálu území

The petrology and geochronology of the gabbro-dioritoid rocks from Veľké Železné (Nízke Tatry Mts., Western Carpathians)
In: Geologica Carpathica. Bratislava : Veda, 2024. ISSN 1335-0552. Vol. 75, no. 1 (2024), pp. 3-20.The gabbro-dioritoid rocks from Veľké Železné (Nízke Tatry Mts., Western Carpathians, Slovakia) were recently studied in order to better understand the age, origin, and evolution of the basic/intermediate magmas associated with Variscan granitic rocks. Their genesis was investigated from the points of view of petrology, whole-rock geochemistry (including Sr, Nd, and Pb isotopic characteristics), as well as U–Th–Pb zircon and apatite dating. The Famennian magmatic crystallization age of ca. 360 Ma (determined from zircon: 362.4 ± 2.9 Ma and apatite: 358.4 ± 2.8 Ma) is older than the Tournaisian–Visean ages for granite intrusions in the Tatric Unit. Geochemically, the studied rocks have an affinity to arc-related basalts, consisting of a metaluminous, magnesian, and high-potassium calc-alkaline character. Isotope data (i.e., (87Sr/86Sr)360 = 0.7035−0.7044 and εNd360 = +1.4 to +1.6) demonstrate that these gabbro-dioritoids were formed from the mantle-influenced, lower crustal and/or sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) sources, whereas the unsystematic increase of Pb isotope ratios indicate either the melting of an ancient Enriched mantle-II (EM-II) reservoir or the upper crustal assimilation and/or local fluid alteration. The data presented in this paper favour the origin of the studied gabbro-dioritoids at a continental arc, although we cannot rule out their genesis as a result of the subsequent slab break-off.APVV-22-0092 Petrogenetické modely paleozoických granitických hornín v Západných Karpatoch a ich korelácia

The metaphor of "sinking to one's knees" as a narrative element in the essays of Alexander Matuška
In: Forum for Contemporary Issues in Language and Literature. Siedlce : Uniwersytet w Siedlcach, 2024. ISSN 2391-9426. No. 5 (2024), pp. 58-67.The presented paper examines the meaning of the metaphor of dropping or sinking to one’s knees in the works of Slovak essayist Alexander Matuška. Drawing on the cognitive theory of metaphor formed by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, this paper attempts not only to describe the concrete realisation of the orientational metaphor of the up-down type in the context of ceremonial symbolism, but also to interpret this metaphor as a certain narrative element in the history narrative that Matuška presents in his essayistic work, and as an element present across different cultures
State of Democracy in Central Europe after the Russian Invasion of Ukraine
In: Revista UNISCI = UNISCI Journal. Central Europe after Russian military aggression and Baltic security. Madrid : UNISCI - Unidad de Investigación sobre Seguridad y Cooperación, 2024. ISSN 2386-9453. No. 66 (2024), pp. 41-61.The central question of this article is why Russian military aggression in Ukraine has failed to strengthen support for democracy and cooperation with partners in some Central European countries. In addition, the article examines the link between military conflict in the immediate neighbourhood and the crisis of democracy. Based on a review of the extensive literature on the crisis of democracy, the article integrates findings from several opinion polls conducted in Central European countries. Looking primarily at the Visegrad countries, clear patterns emerge in responses and attitudes towards Russia. We can see the influence of the political discourse in these countries, the narratives used by political elites and, more recently, war fatigue and economic consequences. The article argues that a military conflict in the vicinity of democratic countries exacerbates the crisis of democracy. The information warfare that is part of this conflict and the susceptibility of the political elite to the dissemination of enemy propaganda undermines trust in democratic institutions and democracy.VEGA 1/0578/23 Kyberneticko-sociálne bezpečnostné hrozby v súčasnom svete: prípadová štúdia o hrozbách dezinformácií a novovznikajúcich hrozbách v spoločenskom kontext
Reasons for not using financial analysis methods in Slovak companies
In: Acta aerarii publici : vedecký časopis Ekonomickej fakulty Univerzity Mateja Bela v Banskej Bystrici. Banská Bystrica : Vydavateľstvo Univerzity Mateja Bela - Belianum, 2024. ISSN 1336-8818. Roč. 21, č. 1 (2024), s. 1-10.The aim of the paper is to present the results of the research focused on the identification of the reasons for not using financial analysis methods in Slovak companies. Primary data were gained by the questionnaire research. The research results confirmed that the main reasons why Slovak companies do not apply financial analysis methods involve the company size (too small company), time-consuming, insufficient knowledge. The main consequence of our study is a recommendation for Slovak managers to implement methods of financial analysis in their managerial work and perceive them as a permanent counterpart of their business activity
Commonalities of standards certification and research and development as enablers of firms' sustainable innovation and technological progress
In: Sustainable Technology and Entrepreneurship. Barcelona : Elsevier Spain, 2024. ISSN 2773-0328. Vol. 3, no. 3 (2024), pp. 1-10.Adoption of international standards and investment in research and development (R&D), can be seen as two possible paths to support enterprises’ sustainable innovation and technological progress. This study argues that some aspects of R&D investment and certification to international standards are connected by identifying common factors that influence standards certification and business investment in R&D and examining the potential associations between the two. First, we examine the relationship between standards certification and R&D investments in European firms and identify enterprise characteristics that potentially affect each of the two concerns, focusing on differences and similarities. The analysis uses data from the World Bank Enterprise Surveys collected in 2018 and 2019 in selected European countries. We analyse the share and characteristics of firms that applied international standards and R&D expenditures. The probit regression results reveal a positive correlation between R&D expenditures and certification. Other factors affecting the probability of certification include size, export focus and industry. Bivariate probit regression allows us to identify common factors affecting both R&D expenditures and certification, showing significant variations between different forms of entrepreneurship. Subsidiaries of larger companies have a greater chance of being certified and investing in R&D. In contrast, sole proprietorships are significantly less active in both cases. Mentioned factors affects firms’ capabilities to develop sustainable innovation and adopt new sustainable technologies.VEGA 1/0411/24 Vplyv ekonomických nástrojov verejnej politiky na digitálnu pripravenosť podnikov

Royal chamberlain Francis Dóczy : networking and social rise at the Jagiellonian court in Buda
In: Mediaevalia historica Bohemica. Praha : Historický ústav AV ČR, 2024. ISSN 0862-979X. Roč. 27, č. 1 (2024), s. 97-123.The social advancement of Francis Dóczy (c. 1478–1526) is an example of a successful combination of family background and personal qualities. The fact that he was a half-orphan led to his upbringing being taken over by his uncle Urban, a prelate and master of the treasury. From his childhood, Francis Dóczy was already at the court of the Hungarian Kingdom, where he maintained his position for several decades thereafter. He worked among the royal chamberlains for a long time, including as master chamberlain. As a sign of the trust of both Hungarian kings Wladislaus II and Louis II, Francis Dóczy was entrusted with diplomatic tasks and also held several offices of county governor.VEGA 1/0148/24 Mocenské, duchovné a intelektuálne elity moháčskeho obdobia v Uhorsk

Assessment of new techniques for measuring volume in large wood chip piles
In: Forests. Basel : Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, 2024. ISSN 1999-4907. Vol. 15, no. 10 (2024), pp. 1-18.Our work aimed to compare the chip pile volumes calculated by laser ground scanning, UAV technology, and laser ground measurement and also to determine the accuracy, speed, and economic efficiency of each method. The large chip pile was measured in seven different ways: band measurement, laser measurement with Vertex, global navigation satellite system, handheld mobile laser scanner, terrestrial laser scanner, drone, and smartphone with a light detection and ranging sensor. All the methods were compared in terms of accuracy, price, user-friendliness, and time required to obtain results. The calculated pile volume, depending on the method, varied from 2588 to 3362 m3. The most accurate results were provided by the terrestrial laser scanning method, which, however, was the most expensive and the most demanding in terms of collecting and evaluating the results. From a time and economic point of view, the most effective methods were UAVs and smartphones with LiDAR.APVV-22-0001 Optimalizácia hlavných zdravotných a bezpečnostných rizík pri využívaní lesnej biomasy na energetické účely
