Climate, Culture, and the Human Journey: From the Lens of Communities in Past and Current Contexts represents a thought-provoking exploration of humanity's enduring relationship with climate through historical and contemporary lenses. This compelling book offers a multifaceted view of how climate has and continues to shape human life and journey, playing a pivotal role on the transformation of cultures, communities, and individual lives worldwide. This publication can be described as an essential resource for students, educators, and researchers. Through a collection of articles that present unique insights in the multifaceted impacts of climate migration, this work illuminates how communities have adapted to environmental changes, offering lessons that resonate with today's global climate challenges. The collection is comprised of texts that are rich and varied. A vital contribution is "Climate Change and Migration," a foundational text on the relationship between climate change and migration. This text's broad scope is balanced by the additional contributions to the book that focus on more localized case studies, for instance, the impact of environmental change on Idaho's agricultural laborers. Contributions also address specific conflicts and their legacies. This includes a chapter that focuses on the environmental destruction the US conflict wrought on Laos. Another text addresses the current conflict in Ukraine through the lens of cultural heritage. The role of memory and historic conflict is also addressed in a chapter that examines how environments can produce diasporic consciousness, focusing on the experiences of Japanese communities interned in the United States during the Second World War. Another prominent stream of contributions in the book focuses on pedagogy. Within this stream, one chapter discusses on the impact of the internationalization of university curriculum design, utilizing as a case study the Global Leaders Fellowship Program initiated by the Idaho Museum of International Diaspora. Another chapter addresses how classroom climate can impact academic performance. Additional contributions to the book tackle diverse topics, from an environmental consciousness in popular comics to resiliency in health systems. The scope of the collection truly reflects the multifaceted reality of climate change and its nature as a "wicked problem" to be grappled with

In: Polish Psychological Bulletin. Warszawa : Polska Akademia Nauk, 2024. ISSN 0079-2993. Vol. 55, č. 1 (2024), pp. 37-46.The aim of our study was to verify relationships between individual difficulties in emotion regulation (ER), ER strategies (cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression), and compassion (to self and others) with the presence of depressive symptomatology in a sample of Slovak adolescents during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the sample of 140 Slovak adolescents (age between 17–19 years) was administrated The Beck Depression Inventory-II. (Beck et al., 1996), The Overall Depression Severity and Impairment Scale (Bentley et al., 2014), The Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Gross & John, 2003), The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (Gratz & Roemer, 2004), The Sussex-Oxford Compassion for the Self Scale and The Sussex-Oxford Compassion for Others Scale (Gu et al., 2019). Results revealed that difficulties in ER (all subscales) and expressive suppression were in positive relationships with depression symptoms. Cognitive reappraisal and self-compassion were in negative relationships with depression symptoms. Lack of ER strategies and cognitive reappraisal (inversely) were the strongest predictors of depressive symptoms. These findings suggest that ER strategies (mainly cognitive reappraisal) could be assumed as protective factors in adolescent depression symptoms development in stressful circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.VEGA 1/0569/22 Emočná flexibilita: stratégie regulácie emócií v meniacich sa podmienkach ako protektívne faktory psychického zdravia Specifický výzkum 2110 Nadměrné používání sociálních sítí a emoční inteligenc

"When a tyrant dies, his government dies with him. When a martyr dies, his reign begins." Towards the creation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes against the background of several existentialist thoughts

In: Acta historica Neosoliensia : vedecký časopis pre historické vedy. Banská Bystrica : Vydavateľstvo Univerzity Mateja Bela Belianum, 2024. ISSN 1336-9148. Vol. 27, no. 1 (2024), pp. 166-179.The chilling events of World War I were a test for all of humanity, which until then could not even imagine such horrors. For many people, they meant death, suffering, or a fight for mere survival. Not even the nationals living on the Balkan Peninsula were an exception, which became the scene of the infamous trigger squeeze that started four and a half years of war frenzy. The work analyzes selected episodes preceding, concerning, or following the end of World War I and confronts them with an existentialist view of the world. In this context, it opens the question of objectivity, historical memory, political instrumentalization of fact, and the diversity of interpretation of the history of this segment of history.Plán obnovy a odolnosti SR 09I03-03-V02-00011 Štipendiá pre excelentných PhD. študentov a študentky (R1) - UMB v Banskej Bystric

In: Apps - Academic Journal of Applied Linguistics and Languages. Zvolen : Ústav cudzích jazykov, 2024. ISSN 2729-9805. Vol. 2., no. 1 (2024), pp. [1-9].The speaker's linguistic repertoire is one of the determining factors of linguistic communication. It is also an important starting point for research on communicative behaviour in situations characterised by the presence of language contact. The linguistic repertoire represents the equipment speakers bring to their communicative activity. Thanks to it they can cope with even difficult situations of misunderstanding. The linguistic repertoire is the sum of knowledge about languages and the sum of linguistic competences related to all the languages spoken. The paper defines the concept from a theoretical perspective and points out the potential of research on language repertoires, especially in relation to research on multilingualism. In the analytical section, the results of a research task on oral multilingual communication are presented. It is highlighted how they relate to the mapping of language repertoires. Using the example of two speakers with multilingual competence but with different linguistic repertoires, the authors show what strategies these speakers choose to avoid misunderstanding in verbal interaction. The aim is to highlight the necessity of understanding linguistic repertoires and choosing an adequate methodology for mapping them

In: Heliyon. Amsterdam : Elsevier B.V., 2024. ISSN 2405-8440. Vol. 10, č. 9 (2024), pp. 1-17.This study rigorously investigated the spatial analysis of leachate penetration at Lemna dumpsite, located in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. Purposeful soil sampling, performed at specific intervals (5 m, 25 m, and 50 m) along the Electrical Resistivity profile line within the dumpsite, was augmented by water sample collection from five boreholes near Lemna dumpsite. Utilizing Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) and Vertical Electric Sounding (VES) survey techniques, resistivity data were systematically gathered to comprehensively analyze the Leachate Penetration in the Lemna dumpsite. Laboratory analysis of soil and borehole water quality focused on Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene (BTEX), with paired sample t-tests applied for statistical scrutiny. Analyzing the ERT and VES data employed sophisticated techniques embedded in Resistivity Two Dimension Invasion software and Advanced Geosciences Incorporation Earth Imager software. Substantial disparities (p < 0.05) emerged in the paired sample t-tests for BTEX in soil compared to National Environmental Standard Regulation and Enforcement Agency (NESREA) limits. Similarly, BTEX in borehole water displayed significant differences (p < 0.05) when compared to World Health Organization (WHO) standards, raising alarming concerns about the safety and portability of groundwater in the area. The examination of dumpsite leachate penetration revealed a resistivity anomaly of 8.01 Ωm and an inverse depth of 12.4 m, underscoring profound environmental implications and necessitating immediate remediation efforts. Additionally, Vulnerability and Aquifer Protective Capacity Index (VES) results, with a rating of <0.1, indicated severely compromised aquifer protective capacity, emphasizing the vulnerability of groundwater resources to further contamination. Our study advocates for strategic management, remediation, and monitoring measures to prevent contamination and safeguard water quality in the region.RSP2024R496 King Saud Universit

Roč. 6, č. 2 (2024), s. 23-35.There is a trend across European countries to incorporate various successful measures into national legislation, and the two cases presented in this article are no exception. However, these implementations vary due to the legal cultures and attitudes of legislatures in each country. Naturally, the Republic of Serbia faces specific demands related to its obligations, which are strict, pertaining to accession to the EU, with the negotiation process imposing numerous conditions on legislative efforts and outcomes. This article examines special evidentiary (investigative) measures, their status within the legal systems of both countries, and the variations between them. The originality of this work stems from the relevance of the legal, practical, and evidentiary solutions provided by both legislatures, as well as the trials conducted by European Community courts and practices based on Slovak results within the legal system of the European Community
