Differences in gender of adolescents’ leisure time satisfaction in Slovakia: Do adolescent boys participate in more physical activity than girls?
In: Health, sport, rehabilitation. Charkov : H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, 2025. ISSN 2520-2677. Vol. 11, no. 3 (2025), pp. 6-16.Background and purpose: Adolescents’ leisure time satisfaction plays an important role in development (their), influencing academic success, self-esteem, and/or well-being. Structured leisure is associated with higher satisfaction, while unstructured is associated with health problems (mental). Study aims to examine adolescents’ leisure time satisfaction in Slovakia; in particular, differences in gender.
Material and methods: 20-item survey was carried out 10 weeks (January 1 – March 10, 2024), targeting 2764 Slovak adolescents (41.98% boys, and 58.02% girls) aged 17.4–17.6 years. 20-item survey, adapted for study, examined the Slovak adolescents’ leisure time satisfaction across 5 sections; in particular, active leisure, passive leisure, education leisure, leisure caring, and social leisure, and by means of Assumption of Homogeneity of Variance and Independent Samples, 2-Sample T-Test, and Anova, of which the significance level (p) was 0.01 and 0.05 (Ibm Spss Modeler).
Results: Adolescent boys and girls reported moderate satisfaction in leisure time (boys: 3.44, girls: 3.48); however, significant (p) differences in gender were in specific sections of leisure. Adolescent boys reported higher satisfaction in active leisure (2.80 vs. 2.36; p < 0.01), while girls reported higher satisfaction in passive leisure (3.66 vs. 3.30; p < 0.01), leisure education (2.66 vs. 2.46; p < 0.01), leisure caring (2.56 vs. 2.36; p < 0.01), and social leisure (2.30 vs. 2. 14, p < 0.01). Results (our) indicate that adolescent girls derive (more) satisfaction from leisure that involve learning, nurturing, and social interaction.
Conclusions: It (study) highlights significant (p) differences in gender in adolescents’ leisure time satisfaction, as is shaped by social norms and preferences of adolescents. Adolescent boys seek autonomy and competence in active pursuits, while girls prioritize emotional connection and engagement in social leisure and leisure caring. Results (our) emphasize needs of gender-inclusive leisure programs that encourage diverse participation and/or address cultural (social) barriers

Short- and long-term effects of musculoskeletal health education: evidence from the performing arts students
In: Frontiers in sports and active living. Lausanne : Frontiers Media S.A., 2025. ISSN 2624-9367. Vol. 7 (2025), pp. [1-10].Background: Performing arts students (i.e., musicians), face elevated risks of performance-related musculoskeletal disorders due to prolonged exposure to static postures, repetitive movements, and lack of ergonomic education. While the benefits of musculoskeletal health education are established in sports, its application and long-term effects in performing arts education remain underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate both short- and long-term effects of musculoskeletal health education on dynamic spine function among female music students.
Methods: Forty-four female music students from the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica participated in a non-randomized controlled study. Participants were divided into an experimental group (n = 28), which received 8-week musculoskeletal health education (2x/week/45 min), and a control group (n = 16), which received no intervention. The education included theoretical and practical components focused on postural awareness and dynamic spine function. Spine mobility was assessed using standardized methods common in medical and physical therapy practice at three time points: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. Statistical analysis was performed using non-parametric Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests, with significance set at p < .05.
Results: The experimental group showed statistically significant improvements in all dynamic spine function tests post-intervention (e.g., Schober's: from 2.71 ± .81 cm to 5.60 ± .68 cm, p < .05) with partial retention at follow-up (4.03 ± .79 cm). Significant gains were also observed in Thomayer's test (from −7.46 ± 4.66 cm to −.78 ± 1.39 cm), indicating enhanced spine mobility. In contrast, the control group demonstrated significant declines across all parameters over time. Intergroup comparisons post-intervention and at follow-up revealed significantly better outcomes in the experimental group across all measures (p < .05), confirming the effectiveness of education.
Conclusions: Musculoskeletal health education program led to significant short- and long-term effects on dynamic spine function in female music students. The results underscore the importance of integrating such programs into performing arts curricula to prevent musculoskeletal decline and promote health literacy. This study provides compelling evidence that musculoskeletal education, when embedded into arts training, is both a preventive and rehabilitative tool essential for sustaining the physical well-being of performing arts students.VEGA 1/0512/24 Epidemiológia porúch muskuloskeletálneho systému u študentov múzických umen

Hradec Králové : Magnanimitas, 2025. ISBN 978-80-87952-42-9. S. 526-536.This study examines young people in NEET situations (Not in Employment, Education or Training) in Slovakia, analysing their demographic, socio-economic and psychological challenges, as well as the long-term consequences of NEET status. The research is based on qualitative analysis of focus groups with young people in the Banská Bystrica region and explores volunteering as a tool for their activation and enhancement of employability. The findings demonstrate that volunteering contributes to the development of basic work habits, increases self-confidence, provides practical experience, and improves the professional profiles of young NEETs. Respondents perceive volunteering as a bridge between inactivity and integration into the labour market, appreciating its motivational and social benefits. The study confirms that volunteering is an effective and comprehensive instrument for supporting the employability and social inclusion of young people outside education and the labour market, recommending its systematic integration into policies and programmes targeting this group.VAIA 09I03-03-V05-00009 Early Stage Granty - UMB v Banskej Bystric

Ocena dokładności ocen stanowisk kierowniczych narażonych na ryzyko korupcji
In: Polish Journal of Management Studies. Czestochowa : Czestochowa University of Technology, 2025. ISSN 2081-7452. Vol. 31, no. 2 (2025), pp. 288-305.This article aims to evaluate the accuracy of two distinct methodologies—the multi-criteria (MC) approach and the process-based (PB) approach—for assessing corruption risks in managerial job positions within ISO 37001-certified organizations. Unlike prior research, this study is the first to directly compare these methods using standardized risk scales, allowing for a quantitative assessment of their accuracy. The PB approach analyzes critical decision-making activities, while the MC method uses predefined weighted criteria. The study calculated a Job Position Corruption Risk Number (JPCRN) under both methods and introduced a novel accuracy metric (ΔJPi) representing the difference between them. Although the MC method provides acceptable overall accuracy (average ΔJPi = 0.16), it becomes less reliable when organizations have very few or many high-risk positions. The findings underscore that organizations with elevated corruption risk profiles need to adopt a more precise PB method.KEGA 023STU-4/2023 Vyučovanie finančnej gramotnosti pomocou informačných technológií ako prostriedok na zvyšovanie kvality života a na elimináciu dopadov ekonomickej kríz
Somatic phraseology in Slovak media discourse
In: Slovenská reč. Bratislava : Slovenská akadémia vied, 2025. ISSN 0037-6981. Roč. 90, č. 1 (2025), s. 51-79.The presented study focuses on somatic phraseology, i.e. phraseological units that contain parts of the human body in publicistic texts of Slovak media discourse. The study aims to indicate the extent to which somatisms participate in phraseological units and to elucidate their distribution along the centre-periphery axis. The theoretical basis is rooted in Cognitive linguistics, Ethnolinguistics and Stylistics. Relevant concepts include the principle of anthropocentrism, the prototype theory, experiential realism, conceptual metaphor, and the linguistic image of the world. Selected texts from two journals, Hlavné správy and SME, are analyzed via two separate corpora. The identified somatic phraseological units are assorted based on the rate of occurrence – the criteria being the frequency of somatic components and productivity of somatisms in the formation of phraseological units. The paper also addresses building the expressiveness of publicistic text using somatic phraseology.VEGA 1/0211/24 Kultúrno-kognitívny kontext telesnosti v jazyku

Changes in velocity decrement at different phases of a 30-meter resisted sprint
In: Studia sportiva. Brno : Masarykova univerzita, Fakulta sportovních studií, 2025. ISSN 1802-7679. Vol. 19, no. 2 (2025), pp. 41-50.Resisted sprint training is one of the most studied methods for developing speed capabilities, especially for elite-level athletes. While traditional sled training relies on a fixed load based on the percentage of body mass, recent research suggests that resistance based on velocity decrement (Vdec) may be a more practical option. This study examines whether Vdec at a given resistance remains consistent or varies across different phases of a 30 m sprint. Twelve male participants with a speed-focused training history were involved in this study. Participants performed 30 m sprint trials, with time splits recorded at 10 m intervals (0–10 m, 10–20 m, 20–30 m) and additional segmental analysis for distances 0–20 m, 10–30 m and the entire 0–30 m sprint. Each participant completed two repetitions at five different resistance levels provided by a cable-driven motorised resistance system (1080 Sprint). The analysis of horizontal force-velocity-power parameters showed moderate variation in force generation of the subjects, with an average theoretical maximal force of 6.33 ± 0.85 N/kg and a relatively consistent maximal velocity of 9.39 ± 0.42 m/s. The study revealed a statistically significant difference in % Vdec (p ≤ 0.05) across different sprint phases, with higher resistance leading to increased differences in the individual phases of the run. Segmental analysis showed a greater % Vdec as sprint distance increased across all resistance levels. These findings highlight the need for a deeper understanding of resisted sprint training for more effective speed development
On the question of the rationality of suicide
In: Filosofický časopis. Praha : Filosofický ústav AV ČR, 2025. ISSN 0015-1831. Roč. 73, č. 2 (2025), s. 331-340.In one of the arguments from his book Obrana asistované smrti (In Defense of Assisted Dying), Tomáš Hříbek argues in favor of the position that suicide can be an instance of rational action under certain circumstances. He proceeds from the criterion of rationality, according to which rational action is that which is advantageous for the individual actor. The aim of this article is to point out that, on the basis of the criterion of rational action in question, suicide cannot in fact be judged to be either a rational or an irrational act. The reason lies in the impossibility of comparing and evaluating whether it is more advantageous for a person to have a life that provides him or her with a certain amount of good, or to not exist. The attempt to make such a compari son leads to a categorical fallacy.NextGenerationEU 09I03-03-V04-00415 Etické aspekty sebaobetovani
