Education, science and research - key elements supporting dynamics of economic growth in the EU in the period after overcoming the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic

Vol. 9, no. 1 (2024), pp. 143-165.Education, support of science and research currently represent one of the key factors supporting the dynamics of economic growth and development, both at the regional and global level. In the context of the indicated development, both within the European integration area and individual member states, there is a gradual implementation of projects focused on the reform of educational systems in order to increase the level and quality of education and its close connection with the needs of current social and economic practice. A highly qualified workforce possessing the necessary knowledge, competences and skills represents the core and at the same time the engine of supporting the growth and development of individual economic sectors and increasing the degree of their achieved competitiveness. Currently, almost every economic or social entity is confront with the need to constantly improve and respond flexibly to the needs and demands coming from its external environment, which leads to the need to innovate and improve internal structures and processes in relation to prevailing trends. The results of the educational process transformed into a qualified workforce can significantly help to correctly identify and appropriately and purposefully adapt to these trends. In this direction, the emphasis on the necessity to connect education with the field of science and research is predominant, which represents key factors supporting economic growth and increasing competitiveness. Indicators of tax and regulatory competitiveness: What tax burden and induced costs are borne by businesses in EU countries?

Roč. 25, č. 1 (2024), s. 61-78.The tax burden and induced costs of regulation may affect the competitiveness of the economy and, in the context of current digital transformation trends, determine the ability of businesses to compete in terms of digital readiness. Regulatory competitiveness is very closely linked to the quality and performance of country's public institutions. This paper examines the tax and regulatory burden on businesses in EU countries and assesses the tax and regulatory competitiveness of the business environment in these countries. The research is mainly based on an empirical analysis of secondary data. On the basis of selected indicators of the tax and regulatory burden on businesses obtained from the World Bank's database (Doing Business), we examine the situation in EU countries. We use the method of a hierarchical and nonhierarchical cluster analysis to categorize countries into relatively homogeneous groups. According to our results, Slovakia has a similar level of tax and regulatory competitiveness as the Czech Republic and Portugal. Furthermore, we evaluate Slovakia's strengths and weaknesses in international comparison. The results show, among other things, that the financial costs of administrative tasks required due to business regulations are relatively low in Slovakia. Pp. 143-154.One of the defining characteristics of the European Union (EU) is multi- lingualism. In his comprehensive work La ricerca della lingua perfetta nella cultura europea, Umberto Eco (2018) explores the search for a common perfect language for Europeans. The aim of our study is to find out what the EU language policy is in line with Romance languages. The paper describes the state of Romance language teaching at secondary level in Europe and compares it with Slovak schools at the same level. We use a survey carried out by the Eurydice Information Network, which is the European Commission’s instrument for collecting informa- tion on the education systems in the Member States of the European Union, to determine the state of foreign language teaching in Europe. Furthermore, we provide a comparative analysis of the results with statistical data regarding foreign language teaching at secondary level in Slovakia obtained from the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic. After assessing the status and prospects of Romance language teaching, we suggest possible solutions to the situation of Romance languages in Slovakia, while intercomprehension can be considered as such. Finally, we offer possible approaches to the teaching of intercomprehension at the university level in the non-philological field

Roč. 23, č. 2 (2024), s. 87-101.Downhill skiing evokes many emotions. In more experienced skiers, they manifest themselves primarily in a positive form, in beginners often in a negative form, in the form of apprehension or fear, mainly due to an unfamiliar way of moving - sliding and moving on skis. In the school environment, we encounter these phenomena quite often on ski training courses. The aim of the paper was to find out through a survey among teachers of lower secondary education (n=105), the fear and apprehension of pupils during ski courses, as well as the use of playful activities during their teaching. We analysed the results from the aspect of intersex differences using the chi-square test on the significance level of p<0.05, resp. p<0.01. We carried out the survey itself from January to March 2023. The results of our study showed that after the completion of ski course, the fear and anxiety of primary school pupils showed a clear trend of decrease. The use of games as one of the forms of warming up, practicing and perfecting selected elements of methodological series of skiing, but also at the end of daily job, is significantly (p<0.01) used to a greater extent by women. During the entire duration of the course, teachers make the most use of movement games of traditional nature - chases, relays, etc. therefore, we recommend that when teaching downhill skiing, movement games with the use of non-traditional aids (skis, poles, etc.) are included to a greater extent, but also games that require the cooperation of pupils, the so-called cooperative games. The results of our study also pointed to the fact that, according to teachers, students' fear of skiing is dominantly caused by an unfamiliar way of moving, when students lose their balance, which they cannot control (p<0.01).KEGA 032UMB-4/2022 Inovatívne učebné materiály pre učiteľov telesnej a športovej výchovy na základných školách so zameraním na zimné sezónne pohybové činnost
Income inequality of population in European countries during COVID-19

ISBN 978-80-7435-931-6. ISSN 2464-6067. S. 240-253.The COVID-19 pandemic has serious economic and social consequences, including impacts on the socio-economic situation of households. In our contribution, we want to focus on the effects of the pandemic on the income inequality of the population of European countries and its causes. In the theoretical part, we present several studies that were created on the given issue, mainly at the international, but also at the national level from Slovakia, Czechia and other national states. We also clarify the difference in the results that the studies bring. In the analytical part, using indicators from the EU SILC surveys from the Eurostat database, we describe the development of the level and rate of income inequality in European countries in 2019-2021 (the last available data), which is last pre-pandemic and two pandemic years. We describe income inequality measured by the Gini coefficient and by median income. We describe the income level according to average income values. For comparison, we present data on income in euros vs. in PPS. The effects of the pandemic on the income inequality of European nations are very diverse, but common factors across European countries that had an impact on the development can be specified. We summarize these in the work. In conclusion, we point out, among other things, the importance of investigating the given issue, especially in the context of crisis developments or other turbulent changes in the European economic environment that await us prospectively

Participatory governance model in the Poľana Biosphere Reserve

Vol. 24, no. 2 (2024), pp. 122-150.The systematic development of civic engagement and partnership with stakeholders within the biosphere reserve is a key to support the sustainability and resilience of the territory and development of its potential. The aim of the paper is to identify the authorities of the Poľana Biosphere Reserve and its relations with stakeholders, developed based on the concept of participatory governance and results of empirical research. The theoretical part of the paper explains the concepts of biosphere reserve and participatory governance. The practical part is focused on the analysis of the current state of the governance of the Poľana Biosphere Reserve and their legislative anchoring and functioning. The paper presents the results of surveys conducted with residents and selected stakeholders in the territory.
