In: Ad Alta : journal of interdisciplinary research. Hradec Králové : Magnanimitas, 2024. ISSN 1804-7890. Vol. 14, no. 2 (2024), pp. 349-354.This study uses person-centred thinking as a theoretical framework to explore first-year undergraduate students' adaptation preferences. The aim is to enhance understanding of support mechanisms by analyzing students' subjective experiences. A qualitative visual methodology employing "one-page profiles" was used to identify preferences for improving adaptation. The research involved 18 students from humanities programs at two Slovak universities. Semiotic analysis of visual representations and thematic analysis of text revealed key preference areas: values, personality traits, social aspects, and motivation. Findings highlight a preference for a holistic approach combining personal development, social support, and academic growth, emphasizing authentic communication and empathetic understanding.EEA Grants BIN SGS02_2021_002 Univerzita podporujúca inteligentné aktívne starnutie VEGA 1/0603/23 Dobrovoľníctvo na Slovensku v čase kríz

Roč. 28, č. 2 (2024), s. 66-79.Slovakia, Europe, and the world are currently undergoing numerous changes, bringing various social, economic, and environmental challenges. Some of these changes have been occurring gradually over a long period, while others are rapid and have emerged only in recent years. The dynamics of these changes significantly affects whether they can be addressed within the geography curriculum and textbooks. We believe that school-level regional geography holds great potential for fostering a holistic understanding of complex phenomena and processes in the world and is a subject that should respond appropriately to current issues in Europe. However, based on an analysis of the geography curriculum, textbooks, and personal experience, we can conclude that such a response is currently taking place only to a very limited extent. There are several reasons for this, with one of the most critical being the rapid dynamics of these topics, which require continuous supplementation and updating of traditional educational materials. As part of the KEGA project, we developed an interactive textbook titled Current Issues of Europe. Its purpose is to complement the traditionally covered content of Europe’s regional geography with current topics and case studies. The textbook is primarily intended for high school students and their teachers. The goal of this paper is to present the textbook in terms of its creation, content, and potential applications.KEGA 029UMB-4/2022 Aktuálne problémy regiónov Európy - inovatívne prístupy vo vyučovan

In: Oeconomia Copernicana. Olsztyn : Institute of Economic Research, 2024. ISSN 2083-1277. Vol. 15, no. 1 (2024), pp. 27-58.Research background: Deep and machine learning-based algorithms can assist in COVID-19 image-based medical diagnosis and symptom tracing, optimize intensive care unit admission, and use clinical data to determine patient prioritization and mortality risk, being pivotal in qualitative care provision, reducing medical errors, and increasing patient survival rates, thus diminishing the massive healthcare system burden in relation to severe COVID-19 inpatient stay duration, while increasing operational costs throughout the organizational management of hospitals. Data-driven financial and scenario-based contingency planning, predictive modelling tools, and risk pooling mechanisms should be deployed for additional medical equipment and unforeseen healthcare demand expenses. Purpose of the article: We show that deep and machine learning-based and clinical decision making systems can optimize patient survival likelihood and treatment outcomes with regard to susceptible, infected, and recovered individuals, performing accurate analyses by data modeling based on vital and clinical signs, surveillance data, and infection-related biomarkers, and furthering hospital facility optimization in terms of intensive care unit bed allocation. Methods: The review software systems employed for article screening and quality evaluation were: AMSTAR, AXIS, DistillerSR, Eppi-Reviewer, MMAT, PICO Portal, Rayyan, ROBIS, and SRDR. Findings & value added: Deep and machine learning-based clinical decision support tools can forecast COVID-19 spread, confirmed cases, and infection and mortality rates for data-driven appropriate treatment and resource allocations in effective therapeutic and diagnosis protocol development, by determining suitable measures and regulations and by using symptoms and comorbidities, vital signs, clinical and laboratory data and medical records across intensive care units, impacting the healthcare financing infrastructure. As a result of heightened use of personal protective equipment, hospital pharmacy and medication, outpatient treatment, and medical supplies, revenue loss and financial vulnerability occur, also due to expenses related to hiring additional staff and to critical resource expenditures. Hospital costs for COVID-19 medical care, screening, treatment capacity expansion, and personal protective equipment can lead to further financial losses while affecting COVID-19 frontline hospital workers and patients.EÚ NFP313010BWN6 The implementation framework and business model of the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 and smart transpor

In: PLoS One. San Francisco : Public Library of Science, 2024. ISSN 1932-6203. Vol. 19, no. 5 (2024), pp. 1-19.The role of endemic species in global biodiversity is pivotal, and understanding their biology and ecology is imperative for their fitness and long-term survival, particularly in the face of ongoing climatic oscillations. Our primary goal was to investigate the sexual reproduction level of the endangered Western Carpathian endemic Daphne arbuscula (Thymelaeaceae), which inhabits extreme rocky habitats, and to comprehend the influence of specific factors on its reproductive success. We conducted the research across four populations, varying in size and environmental conditions. Over two years, we monitored flower and fruit production, analyzed genetic variability within and among populations, and studied pollination mechanisms. Daphne arbuscula proved to be strictly self-incompatible, with significant variations in flower and fruit production among populations and seasons. The average fruit production percentage consistently remained below 50% across populations, indicating challenges in sexual reproduction. Cold and harsh weather during the reproductive phase had a substantial negative impact on sexual reproduction efficacy, leading to decreased fruit production. Nevertheless, several individuals in sheltered microhabitats displayed significantly higher fruit production, ranging from 60% to 83%, emphasizing the critical role of microhabitat heterogeneity in sustaining sexual reproduction in this species. We found no pronounced differences in genetic diversity within or among populations, suggesting that genetic factors may not critically influence the reproductive success of this endemic species. The implications of our findings might be of paramount importance for the long-term survival of D. arbuscula and offer valuable insights for the development of effective conservation strategies for this species.APVV-22-0365 Význam reprodukčných systémov, hybridizácie a symbiotickej asociácie pre evolúciu a prežívanie cievnatých rastlín v prostredí skalných biotopov VEGA 2/0098/22 Život na hrane. Roč. 11, 2-3 (2024), s. 112-129.Evropský zatýkací rozkaz - minulost, přítomnost a budoucnost.

In: Aktuaľnyje problemy filologii i pedagogičeskoj lingvistiki = Current issues in philology and pedagogical linguistics = Contemporary problems of philology and pedagogical linguistics. Vladikavkaz : Severo-osetinskij gosudarstvennyj universitet imeni Kosta Levanoviča Chetagurova, 2024. ISSN 2079-6021. Č. 2 (2024), s. 245-252.The paper dwells upon the study of sociological and linguistic aspects of gender-(in)sensitive language in English and Slovak. Gender stereotypes and their consequences in society, culture, and language are presented as a central theme, therefore in the initial chapter, the paper outlines gender socialisation and gender stereotypes in behaviour in general. The traditional division of roles in society influences the division of spheres in which both genders used to be realised: a public sphere for men and a private sphere for wom- en. One way to achieve gender balance in society is using gender-sensitive policy through gender-sensitive language. Gender-insensitive language is most evident in the use of generic masculine, where the masculine gender is preferred when addressing or titling people. Similarly, the use of the masculine gender is predominant when referring to persons, under which both men and women are generally classified according to professions, functions and relationships. The aim of this paper is to highlight the declining tendencies of gender insensitive language on the one hand, as well as some persistent tendencies of the predominance of the masculine element in language on the other. So, the core of the paper is focused on a quantitative and qualitative analysis of ex- pressions beginning with lexical morphemes “man” and “woman”. Our research revealed that there is still a strong dominance of the masculine element in terms of both quantity and quality. Nevertheless, one positive tendency may be observed in recent years as there are new tendencies to replace masculine nominal expres- sions with their collective equivalents addressed both to male and female audiences

UGA-03-PDS-2024 Axiologické aspekty v próze Ivana Sergejeviča Šmeľova VAIA 09I03-03-V05-00009 Early Stage Granty - UMB v Banskej Bystric
