Victimization of pupils through cyber bullying as an educational problem
In: Edukácia : vedecko-odborný časopis. 1. vyd. Košice : Univerzita Pavla Jozefa Šafárika v Košiciach, 2024. ISSN 1339-8725. Roč. 7, č. 1 (2024), s. 15-24.The aim of the presented study is to analyze the prevalence of cyberbullying with an emphasis on selected demographic variables (gender, grade, self-governing region) among pupils from the 6th to the 9th grade in the conditions of Slovak primary schools. The goal is also the possibility of preventing cyberbullying in the school environment. In the intentions of empirical research, we implemented the monitoring of cyberbullying through the questionnaire method. We identified 322 (11.63%) victims in the research group of 2768 pupils. In the group of victims, we did not find significant differences in terms of gender (p=0.189), although boys (AM=2.02; Me=1.78) achieved slightly higher score than girls (AM=1.88; Me = 1.72). Significant differences were not confirmed even in the inferential analysis of other variables, such as grade (p=0.216) or self-governing region (p=0.261). In the scale for measuring victimization through cyberbullying, the 9th grade pupils scored the highest (AM=2.06; Me=1.83), as for the self-governing regions, we recorded the highest among pupils in Košice (AM=2.40; Me = 1.72) and the Trnava region (AM=2.21; Me = 2.00).KEGA 024UMB-4/2022 Prevencia online rizikového správani
Heterogeneity and emotional perceptions of the labelling of accommodation services in tourism
In: Marketing and Management of Innovations = Marketing ì menedžment ìnnovacìj. Sumy : Sumy State University, 2024. ISSN 2218-4511. Vol. 15, no. 4 (2024), pp. 56-71.The labelling of tourism accommodation services profoundly influences consumer behaviour and decision-making processes. Many consumers view labelling as a subjective assurance of the quality of services provided and are willing to pay a premium on the basis of the level of quality indicated by these labels. This paper’s main goal is to highlight the critical importance, emotional perception, and potential implications of labelling tourism accommodation services within the Slovak Republic’s particular context and the V4 countries. Considering this, the research employed a combination of secondary data and field research, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Data analysis utilises fundamental statistical techniques as well as more advanced methods, such as eye trajectory analysis, emotional valence analysis, and emotional arousal analysis. These methods, which fall under the domain of biometric measurement of emotions and consumer neuroscience, are essential for obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the data. The findings indicate that labelling accommodation services significantly affects consumer behaviour and has an important effect on what decisions are made regarding commodities associated with tourism. Providers of tourism services across various countries are continuously searching for effective ways to label accommodation services that are not only uniform and memorable but also perceived as reliable indicators of service quality. The insights gained from this study, achieved through the application of relatively underutilised methods, significantly enhance our understanding of the importance and relevance of accommodation service labelling. They offer valuable information on the emotional responses elicited by different types of signage, identify the intrinsic appeal of various signage elements, and highlight indicators of emotional arousal. Moreover, the study underscores the importance of strategic signage placement within service environments, employing eye trajectory analysis and the creation of heatmaps to demonstrate how prominently displayed signage can influence consumer perception and engagement. This expanded understanding provides practical implications for designing more effective tourism accommodation labels and marketing strategies.APVV-21-0363 Obmedzenia a limity metód merania výkonnosti v miestnej samospráve - problém heterogenity poskytovania služie
ESG skóring a finančná výkonnosť v mikropodnikoch a malých podnikoch
In: Acta aerarii publici : vedecký časopis Ekonomickej fakulty Univerzity Mateja Bela v Banskej Bystrici. Banská Bystrica : Vydavateľstvo Univerzity Mateja Bela - Belianum, 2024. ISSN 1336-8818. Roč. 21, č. 1 (2024), s. 59-68.This paper investigates the influence of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles on corporate financial management within micro- and small enterprises. The primary objective is to assess the impact of ESG integration on the financial performance of these firms. The study commences with a comprehensive review of ESG reporting, underscoring its significance in evaluating corporate performance and ensuring long-term sustainability. A mixed-method approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative analyses, is employed to examine data from 200 Slovak companies across various industries. The study explores the correlation between ESG assessments and financial metrics, including Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Sales (ROS). The results indicate an ambiguous relationship between ESG scores and financial performance, implying that while ESG adoption is vital for sustainability, its short-term financial advantages may be limited. Additionally, the paper addresses the challenges encountered by Slovak enterprises in ESG reporting, such as insufficient awareness and the perceived financial burden of compliance. Recommendations include broadening the dataset and extending the temporal scope of the analysis for more robust insights. The paper also advocates for heightened awareness of ESG principles through educational programs and the enforcement of EU regulations on ESG reporting. These findings aim to contribute both to academic discourse and the practical application of ESG principles, thereby fostering sustainable business practices in Slovakia

Dvorac kao žarište uspona regionalnih elita: Primjer Gornje Ugarske u kasnom srednjem vijeku
In: Povijesni prilozi = Historical contributions. Záhreb : Hrvatski institut za povijest, 2024. ISSN 0351-9767. Roč. 43, č. 67 (2024), s. 9-28.The text focuses on the relationship among the medieval castle, its social background and the careers of castle officials. It is based on present archontological research as well as prosopography approaches. Using the example of six castles in the regions of Zvolen/Zólyom and Tekov/Bars County in the late Middle Ages, it is possible to define the circle of officials of higher and middle degree: captains, castellans and stewards. During 1402 – 1526, this heterogeneous group consisted of approximately 108 persons. About a quarter of them were castle officials coming from the relevant castle estate or county, as well as officials of foreign origin settled during their service in the given region. Almost three quarters of the officials had not shown any connection with their home region. The post of castellan had been held mostly by poor landowners and occasionally by noble burghers. The office of the steward for which the designation provisor curiae had also been used, had not required a noble title and was also held by subjects. The establishment of officials during their service at the place of work had taken place through the acquisition of property. Officials who had or had been creating a property background in the region had worked in their positions longer, including multi-generational service. On the contrary, officials had shown the fluctuation without ties to the place of work.VEGA 1/0148/24 Mocenské, duchovné a intelektuálne elity moháčskeho obdobia v Uhorsk

In: Health Technologies = Technolohiji zdorovja. Charkov : Independent Publisher Zhanneta Kozina, 2024. ISSN 2958-7921. Vol. 2, no. 3 (2024), pp. 8-19.Background and purpose: Adolescence is a critical period for physical, emotional, and cognitive development. High-quality sleep during this phase is essential for healthy growth, emotional well-being, optimal weight, and learning. These factors significantly influence the academic achievements of young people. Purpose: to develop and experimentally justify the methodology of training basketball teams of humanitarian higher educational institutions, taking into account the psychophysiological capabilities of the players.
Material and methods: The sample consisted of 626 secondary vocational school students aged 17 years from the Central Slovakia region (353 girls and 273 boys). Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The questionnaires were distributed electronically via Google Forms from October 2023 to March 2024. The results were analyzed with an emphasis on gender differences using the chi-square test (χ2), F-test, and independent t-test at significance levels of p<0.01 and p<0.05, respectively.
Results: The majority of students, both boys and girls, fell asleep between 11:00 PM and midnight. The average bedtime was 10:54 PM for girls and 10:50 PM for boys, with no significant differences between genders. Significant differences were found in wake-up times, with nearly 40% of girls waking up before 6:00 AM, compared to only 24% of boys (p<0.01). Boys experienced fewer difficulties falling asleep, with 21% falling asleep within 15 minutes (p<0.05). The average sleep duration was 6 hours and 28 minutes for girls and 6 hours and 55 minutes for boys, a statistically significant difference (p<0.01). Sleep efficiency was higher in boys (84.25%) compared to girls (78.75%). Sleep problems, daytime dysfunction, and mood changes were more frequent among girls (p<0.01). Only 28.33% of girls and 39.19% of boys had good sleep quality (p<0.01), while 17.00% of girls and 4.40% of boys exhibited severe sleep disturbances
Conclusions: Our findings indicate significant gender differences in sleep habits and quality, consistent with existing literature. These results highlight the need for increased attention to sleep issues among adolescents and the implementation of preventive and intervention measures to improve sleep quality, which could have a positive impact on their overall health and well-being
"Will it be better in this space? Yes, yes. Better." Ufo over Bratislava by Weronika Gogola in a Slovakian context
In: Tematy i konteksty. Rzeszów : Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2024. ISSN 2299-8365. Vol. 19, no. 14 (2024), pp. 163-175.This article is focused on the Slovak translation of Veronika Gogola's Ufo over Bratislava in the Slovak context. Attention was given to the information available on the websites of the Polish Czarne Publishing House, where the original book came out, and the Slovak Absinthe Publishing House, where the translation was published. The information presenting the book and the author's notes on the publisher's website were compared. The role of the "Absinth" publishing house in popularising the genre of reportage in Slovakia, especially through its translations of books from the Polish school of reportage, is emphasised. In addition, the author of the article compares the graphic side of the covers of the original and the translation, and points out the additional elements in the Slovak edition: the introduction to the Slovak edition and the acknowledgements. She then describes the footnotes of the translator Alexander Horák and the author of the collection of reportages herself. In addition, the reception of Ufo nad Bratislavou in Poland is presented, in order to describe more extensively the reception of the translation of Ufo nad Bratislavou in Slovakia
Biosphere reserves as a source of positive externalities
In: Ekonomika a spoločnosť = The journal of economics and social research : vedecký časopis Ekonomickej fakulty UMB v Banskej Bystrici. Banská Bystrica : Vydavateľstvo Univerzity Mateja Bela - Belianum, 2024. ISSN 2729-8213. Roč. 25, č. 2 (2024), s. 92-106.The advantages of protected areas mainly relate to the evaluation of ecosystem services which provide benefits to people. These affect various areas of life. From the perspective of economic theory, these are externalities. These are perceived as benefits or disadvantages that occur outside the market to another party. Based on the review of literature, this paper highlights the advantages of the biosphere reserves regarding the externalities that arise from their presence as a distinct type of area connecting the principles of environmental protection with suitable socio-economic development. The paper thus contributes to the development of theoretical knowledge, given that this is a poorly researched issue, but at the same time very topical due to climate change and its negative impacts on nature and humans.APVV-20-0108 Implementácia Agendy 2030 prostredníctvom biosférických rezerváci
Педагогічна граматика як фреймове поняття для досліджень у галузі методики навчання іноземних мов. Частина 16. Проблеми організації педагогічної граматики у навчанні
In: Vykladannja mov u vyščych navčaľnych zakladach osvity na sučasnomu etapi. Mižpredmetni zvyazky = Teaching languages at higher educational establishments at the present stage. Intersubject relations. Charkov : Charkivskij nacionaľnij universitet im. V. N. Karazina, 2024. ISSN 2073-4379. No. 44 (2024), pp. 206-219.The article presents a comparative analysis of two approaches to teaching a foreign language in general and its grammar in particular – acquisition (mainly implicit learning, similar to the mastery of a first language) and learning (based on students’ awareness of the structure and conditions of use of the grammatical structures to be learnt). As the analysis of the available publications shows, there are contradictory points of view on the relationship between acquisition and learning in the classroom teaching process, ranging from the complete denial of the usefulness of one of the above approaches to the search for the optimal ratio of elements of both methods, depending on the specific learning conditions. In the author’s opinion, the problem can be practically reduced to the ratio of types of pedagogical information in the teaching process. The author distinguishes three such types (speech sample, model and rule), which differ in the degree of implicitness (speech sample is implicit, model is semi-implicit and rule is explicit). Acquisition is mainly based on the use of a speech sample as the only type of pedagogical information, while the use of rules and models is typical of teaching that focuses on understanding the structure and conditions of use of the grammatical action that is the object of acquisition. On the basis of the arguments presented in the previous parts of his series of articles, the author proposes a list of conditions favourable to effective acquisition, i.e. even when a speech sample is used as the only type of pedagogical information. On the other hand, the author argues that there are disadvantages of such teaching due to incomplete orientation of students as to the structure and conditions of the corresponding action. The author considers more explicit types of pedagogical information as a means of overcoming this shortcoming and explains the differences between traditional and step-by-step methods of their application. Based on these conclusions, the paper outlines prospects for further research
Čítanie medzi riadkami: potenciál umelej inteligencie pri "interpretácii" obrazného jazyka
In: Lingua et vita : vedecký časopis pre výskum jazykov a interkultúrnej komunikácie Fakulty aplikovaných jazykov Ekonomickej univerzity v Bratislave. Bratislava : Ekonomická univerzita v Bratislave, 2024. ISSN 1338-6743. Roč. 8/1, č. 25 (2024), s. 30-38.This study explores AI's potential in analyzing figurative language (similes) within Margaret Atwood's short story "There Was Once," (1992), using ChatGPT 3.5 to identify and “interpret” them. The research proved AI excels in recognizing standard simile structures (e.g. as pretty as a picture) but struggles with nuanced variations, critical for humor in literature. While enhancing speed and efficiency, AI offers insights into simile roles, yet requires human oversight for accurate interpretation and contextual understanding. The findings highlight AI's promise as a tool for processing large blocks of texts but underscore the ongoing necessity of human involvement to navigate figurative language's complexities effectively.KEGA 008UMB-4/2022 Univerzitné vzdelávanie ako brána k mysleniu: integrácia čitateľských, akademických a kritických zručností ako predpoklad intelektuálneho kapitálu univerzít a internacionalizácie výučb
