Roč. 17, č. 1 (2025), s. 24-35.This paper presents the bus stop proper name modelling process and models in Banská Bystrica city and Banská Bystrica district. The term A1 model refers to models mapping the bus stop proper name content/meaning. The data set consists of 326 bus stop proper names. These were acquired during a research period in the field and online in June and July 2024. Bus transport in Banská Bystrica city is dominated by A1 = (U) + BT two-component model and A1 = (U) + BT + BT three-component model (1). In Banská Bystrica district, A1 = (U) + BT + BT three-component model is most frequent. The BT functional component was dominant in all models. This component underlines the bus stop’s relation to a specific place and narrows its location. The numeric value (NV) and characteristic (CH) functional components are rarely used. When used, they include a reference to a number or a certain characteristic in the bus stop proper name.VEGA 1/0378/23 Synchrónne modely a modelovanie toponým a kozmoný

Building stronger ageing policies to prevent elder abuse

In: International journal of environmental sciences. Naí Dillí : Integrated publishing association, 2025. ISSN 2229-7359. Vol. 11, no. 17 (2025), pp. 2026-2038.Ageing policy development and elder abuse prevention remains a critical public health and social justice priority, requiring robust policy frameworks and coordinated institutional responses to protect vulnerable older populations. This comparative-reflexive study examines existing legislative frameworks and public policies for protecting older adults from abuse in Slovakia and Norway. While Norway has implemented "SafeEst", a comprehensive model mandating interdisciplinary coordination between healthcare, social services and law enforcement at municipality level, Slovakia's approach primarily operates through the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family. The study identifies three key areas requiring development in both countries: 1) Legal framework enhancement -- Norway lacks specific elder abuse legislation while Slovakia needs stronger implementation of existing protections. 2) Service delivery standardisation -- Norway requires consistent SafeEst implementation across municipalities while Slovakia needs development of local-level coordination mechanisms. 3) Prevention strategy development -- both countries need expanded digital abuse prevention, enhanced professional training, and improved rural service accessibility. These findings suggest that combining Norway's preventive, community-based approach with Slovakia's strong legal protection could create a more comprehensive elder abuse prevention framework, applicable across different national contexts

In: Ekonomicko-manažérske spektrum (EMS) = Economic and Managerial Spectrum : recenzovaný vedecký časopis Žilinskej univerzity. Žilina : Žilinská univerzita, 2025. ISSN 1337-0839. Roč. 19, č. 1 (2025), s. 129-141.Research background: In the context of increasing economic volatility and competitive pressure, the financial stability of industrial enterprises has become a critical area of analysis. The mechanical engineering sector, as a capital-intensive industry, is particularly sensitive to the structure and level of indebtedness. Financial analysis, especially debt analysis, plays a central role in identifying the financial health of enterprises. Appropriate capital structure enhances long-term sustainability, while excessive reliance on external financing may increase insolvency risk. The Slovak mechanical engineering sector, although economically significant, remains underexamined in this context. Purpose of the article: This study aims to assess the financial stability of enterprises in the Slovak mechanical engineering sector by analyzing indebtedness indicators and identifying differences based on company size and legal form. It further seeks to evaluate compliance with selected financial principles such as the golden balance and parity rules. Methods: The research is based on secondary data obtained from the Moody’s database for the period 2019–2023, covering enterprises under NACE section C25, C28, C29, C30. Descriptive statistics and non-parametric methods, specifically the Kruskal–Wallis test, were used to examine the influence of size and legal form on six key debt indicators: total indebtedness, credit indebtedness, debt-to-equity ratio, interest coverage, financial leverage, and insolvency. Findings & Value added: The average total debt remained below the 70% threshold, indicating moderate indebtedness. Statistically significant differences were found in four out of six indicators depending on company size, while legal form influenced only credit debt. The sector exhibited consistent undercapitalization and partial non-compliance with the golden balance rule, raising concerns about long-term financial sustainability. This article contributes to the existing literature by providing sector-specific evidence on indebtedness in the Slovak engineering industry. It offers practical recommendations for improving financial management practices, especially in terms of capital structure optimization, risk mitigation, and strategic planning. The findings are relevant for financial analysts, company managers, and policymakers focused on industrial development and economic resilience.VEGA 1/0494/24 Metamorfózy a kauzality zadlženosti, likvidity a solventnosti podnikov v kontexte globálneho environment

Subfossil chironomid assemblage shifts indicate Little Ice Age termination, deforestation, and human impact in a subalpine lake catchment

In: Aquatic Sciences. Bazilej : Springer Basel AG, 2025. ISSN 1015-1621. Vol. 87, no. 4 (2025), pp. 1-16.Paleoenvironmental reconstruction was conducted on a short sediment core from a subalpine lake (Low Tatra Mountains, Slovakia) spanning the past ~ 300 years, and aimed to assess the impact of climatic oscillations and the well-documented human activities in the catchment. An analysis of subfossil chironomid remains was applied, supported by a land cover reconstruction using historical maps and orthoimagery. Two main phases of lake development were identified: the first, preceding major anthropogenic pressure and the second, which followed the opening of the first hotel in the lake vicinity in 1950, characterised by massive infrastructure and tourism expansion. The oldest assemblages date to the coldest period of the Little Ice Age (LIA) and were dominated by Derotanypus and Paratanytarsus austriacus-type, indicating very cold and oligotrophic conditions. Warming following the end of LIA caused a gradual shift in the taxonomic composition, with previously dominant taxa disappearing or decreasing in abundance. Dominance of Tanytarsus lugens-type, Zavrelimyia and Heterotrissocladius marcidus-type still reflects relatively cold temperatures and low productivity. Taxonomic composition remained mostly stable until the middle of the twentieth century, when construction work in the catchment caused deforestation, the number of year-round tourists increased, and the lake was dammed to improve conditions for boating and angling. The resulting increased nutrient loading, oxygen depletion and macrophyte development are evident from the rising abundances of taxa tolerant of high trophy. The increase of thermally plastic taxa in the twenty-first century reveals recent climate warming, which will likely only exacerbate the already considerable negative human influence, making lake recovery improbable.APVV-20-0358 Čítanie v prírodných archívoch: tisíce rokov dlhá história prostredia a klimatických zmien zaznamenaná v alpínskych jazerách Ukrajinských Karpát APVV-15-0292 Deglaciácia a postglaciálny klimatický vývoj Vysokých Tatier zaznamenaný v jazerných sedimentoch VEGA 2/0162/25 Klimatické zvraty posledného glaciálneho cyklu v záznamoch jaskýň a jazier Slovenska 16.16.210.476 Polish Ministry of Education and Scienc

In: Open Computer Science. Warsaw : De Gruyter Poland, 2025. ISSN 2299-1093. Vol. 15, č. 1 (2025), pp. 1-16.Regulating traffic in cities plays a crucial role in addressing climate change. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technologies offers new opportunities for managing urban traffic within the framework of Smart Cities. One common method for classifying traffic is the level of service (LoS) criterion, which evaluates traffic quality based on factors like density, speed, and location-specific characteristics. Because of these variations, LoS must be assessed individually for each location, often with expert assistance. In this article, we propose and compare several approaches for LoS classification using neural networks, fuzzy sets, and high-dimensional random vectors. Our goal is to reduce the reliance of LoS determination on local conditions, making the methodology adaptable across different locations. The results show that all three used methods achieved sufficient accuracy, which supports their potential integration with meteorological and pollution data for further applications.VEGA 1/0779/25 Znalostný prístup k udržateľnej doprave v mestských aglomeráciách ITMS 26230120002 Slovenská infraštruktúra pre vysokovýkonné počítanie - Regionálna konkurencieschopnosť a zamestnanosť ITMS 26210120002 Slovenská infraštruktúra pre vysokovýkonné počítanie - Konvergencia ERDF 311070AKF2 National competence centre for high performance computin

Beyond the market: Translation and cultural resistance in Slovak periodicals

In: World literature studies : časopis pre výskum svetovej literatúry. Bratislava : Ústav svetovej literatúry SAV, 2025. ISSN 1337-9275. Vol. 17, no. 3 (2025), pp. 109-131.This article contributes to the framework of big translation history, conceptualized by Diana Roig-Sanz and Laura Fólica in 2021, by analyzing medium-sized datasets of translations published in four Slovak periodicals, assembled by the authorial team in 2024, and applying data-driven methods to uncover broader historical and cultural patterns. The analytical lens used in this study is the source language, treated as a cultural good with varying degrees of symbolic capital within the ecosystem of world languages. An analysis of the literary periodical Revue svetovej literatúry, alongside data on the Slovak book market from 1995 to 2015, reveals that Revue – as a translation-focused periodical with a strong editorial direction and supported by cultural subsidies – can subvert dominant linguistic power relations by significantly diminishing the prominence of English as a source language. Moreover, a comparison of the choice and distribution of source languages in two periodicals from the late 1990s and two from the early 2020s allows for an exploration of questions such as the changing role of German as a language mediating international discourse and current knowledge, both in the years following the fall of the iron curtain and in the decades that followed. This work was supported by EU – NextGenerationEU through the Recovery and Resilience Plan for Slovakia under the project No 09I03-03-V04-00667 “Information flows and zones of resistance: Translation in Slovak cultural and literary periodicals since the 1990s”.NextGenerationEU 09I03-03-V04-00667 Information flows and zones of resistance: Translation in Slovak cultural and literary periodicals since the 1990
