Finance as ideology: the normative and performativity structure of financial economics
In: Ekonomické rozhľady : vedecký časopis Ekonomickej univerzity v Bratislave : scientific journal of the University of Economics Bratislava = Economic review. Bratislava : Ekonomická univerzita, 2025. ISSN 0323-262X. Roč. 54, č. 3 (2025), s. 164-176.This essay examines financial economics not just as a technical science of analysis, but as a value-influenced discourse composed of philosophical assumptions and learned social values. The subject matter tends to present itself as objective and value-free, even though the dominant models promote a specific view of rationality, efficiency, and maximisation of value. Citing the philosophy of science and critical epistemology, the essay highlights how financial economics is implicated in shaping the very realities it purportedly studies – by providing the tone for expectations of human behaviour, market activity, and the validity of institutions. Through critical readings of standard models such as the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH), and the Black–Scholes model, the paper illustrates how theory can be employed to naturalise existing power relations and institutional structures. Against this, it argues for a more reflexive and pluralistic economic thought that values its normative commitments and is open to alternative modes of thinking.VEGA 1/0120/25 Výskum paradigiem a determinantov procesov riadenia a implementácie ESG v kontexte požadovanej finančnej výkonnosti podnikov a zmien vyplývajúcich z CSRD smernic

Visualization of prediction potential hotspots in multidimensional datasets
In: International Journal on Informatics Visualization = JOIV. Padang : Politeknik Negeri Padang, 2025. ISSN 2549-9610. Vol. 9, no. 1 (2025), pp. 258-264.Correlation analysis and visual analysis of multidimensional datasets with the objective of identification of patterns and trends is an essential element of decision-making processes. Conventional visualization models in the considered area, such as correlation heatmaps, are used to visually represent the value of the correlation coefficient measured between pairs of attributes of the multidimensional dataset but are hard to read when working with a large number of attributes. This study concerns the design and implementation of a visualization model, which can be used to identify prediction potential hotspots in analysed datasets - parts of the dataset, which are strongly correlated with a high number of attributes in the dataset. The proposed model focuses on a graphical representation of such hotspots based on planar, multicomponent graphs, with the aim of meta-analysis of large, multidimensional datasets. The implemented approach is evaluated on a case study focused on the analysis of the original cubic graph property dataset where several prediction potential hotspots of different correlation types are constructed. Other than the construction of the hotspots themselves, this study shows a comparison of results gained by the graphical model to the conventional model used in the meta-analysis of multidimensional datasets – Shapley value explanations. The results presented in this study point to the need for a robust visualization framework for the analysis of correlation structures in multidimensional datasets and for models of visualization based on virtual and augmented reality.KEGA 014UMB-4/2023 Tvorba elektronických kľúčov na determináciu húb pre mobilné zariadenia - pomôcky pre rôzne stupne vzdelávani
Consumers' preferences for clothing purchases in the context of the circular economy principles
In: Economics and Sociology : journal of scientific papers. Szczecin : Centre of Sociological Research, 2025. ISSN 2071-789X. Vol. 18, no. 1 (2025), pp. 248-261.The study explores consumers' interests, attitudes, and purchasing behavior towards sustainable clothing within the framework of circular economy principles. The research used statistical tests, including Pearson chi-square and Spearman's rank correlation, to examine the relationships between demographic factors (gender, age, household income) and aspects of purchasing behavior (willingness to buy sustainable products, actual purchases, and willingness to pay extra for sustainable products). The findings indicated that consumers concerned about environmental issues are more likely to engage in green activities and purchase green or recycled products, even at a higher price. No significant relationship was found between household income and the purchase of sustainable clothing with specific sustainable brands or certificates. The study also revealed a strong consumer inclination towards reducing waste and extending clothing life, with only 24.5% of respondents throwing clothes directly in the bin. More than 65% of respondents pass on clothes to siblings or friends, and more than 62% donate them to charity. These results demonstrate the growing trend in consumer behavior towards sustainability in purchasing and disposing of clothes.VEGA 1/0479/23 Výskum cirkulárneho spotrebiteľského správania v kontexte STP marketingového model

Organising support for refugees from Ukraine : the role of the state, local governments, and civil society
In: Humanitarian aid and empowerment of Ukrainian refugees : the case of Visegrad Group countries: Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. 1. vyd. Abingdon : Routledge, 2025. ISBN 978-1-032-78599-8. Pp. 62-77.Commencement of the unprovoked Russian aggression against Ukraine triggered a huge wave of refugees. Assisting these people in recovering from the psychological trauma, rebuilding their self-confidence, and integrating into the economic and labour activities of their new host countries poses a significant challenge. V4 countries, as a part of EU member states, are putting forth considerable efforts to support these refugees. They now host around a quarter of all Ukrainians who have fled their country following the Russian invasion. Nevertheless, integrating Ukrainian refugees is intricate and demands substantial resources.
Initially, in the early stages of the conflict, V4 countries extended various forms of assistance to Ukrainians, driven by a moral obligation to aid a nation defending shared values and its freedom, without considering economic factors. However, as the number of refugees grew, countries began encountering challenges in accommodating and integrating them and are now seeking a balanced approach.
The chapter contains an analysis of the structure of the support system for people coming from Ukraine in V4 countries, including the scope of actions taken by the government administration, involvement of local governments, and civil society in support initiatives.Visegrad Grants 22230242 Humanitarian aid and the empowerment of Ukrainians coming to the V4 countries - good practice
