In: Current Research in Parasitology and Vector-Borne Diseases. Amsterdam : Elsevier B. V., 2025. ISSN 2667-114X. Vol. 8 (2025), pp. [1-26].Some piroplasmids and haemotropic mycoplasmas are important pathogens affecting domestic and wild animals, leading to various clinical symptoms and economic losses. This study aimed to determine, for the first time, the prevalence of haemotropic mycoplasmas and Babesia/Theileria species in domestic and wild ruminants in Slovakia, Central Europe. Blood samples from cattle, goats, and sheep (n = 549) and liver samples from red deer (n = 43) were collected across Slovakia between 2008 and 2024. DNA was extracted and screened by PCR and sequencing for haemotropic mycoplasmas and piroplasmids. The overall prevalence of haemotropic mycoplasmas was highest in cattle at 53.3% (124/232) and in sheep at 60% (90/150), whereas the prevalence in goats was substantially lower (4.2%; 7/167). Specifically, Mycoplasma wenyonii and “Candidatus Mycoplasma haematobovis” were detected in cattle, while Mycoplasma ovis-like microorganisms were identified in sheep and goats. For Babesia/Theileria species, a prevalence of 1.8% was recorded in goats, with no detections in sheep, and a prevalence of 65.1% was confirmed in red deer, where sequencing confirmed the presence of Theileria capreoli. This study presents the first report on the prevalence of haemotropic mycoplasmas in ruminants in Slovakia, highlighting the need for further research into transmission dynamics and potential zoonotic risks.VEGA 2/0051/24 Vplyv prítomnosti parazitických osičiek Ixodiphagus spp. (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) na ekológiu vybraných kliešťami prenášaných patogénov a dynamiku infekčných ochorení VEGA 2/0033/25 Úloha kuklorodiek pri prenose a cirkulácii veterinárne významných mikroorganizmov so zoonóznym potenciálom APVV SK-SRB-23-0046 Úloha voľne žijúcich zvierat v cirkulácii vektormi-prenášaných pôvodcov nákaz a možnosti biologickej kontroly Ixodes ricinus APVV-21-0166 Drobné cicavce ako rezervoár zoonóznych patogénov v urbanizujúcom sa svete - epidemiológia a genetická diverzit

Roč. 17, č. 1 (2025), s. 183-195.Ukrainian and Slovak languages and is based on an integrated approach that combines the analysis of lexicographic sources, corpus-based research and comparative methods. Interlingual homonymy, as one of the most complex areas of linguistic research, arises in close connection with the processes of globalization and intensification of intercultural interaction. The relevance of the study is that, although homonymy has been studied within the framework of individual languages, a systematic comparison and study of this phenomenon in Ukrainian and Slovak languages have not yet been conducted. The purpose of the study is to identify the main types of lexical homonymy in Ukrainian and Slovak, analyze their semantic features, and identify potential problems that arise in the process of their translation and use in speech. The article also discusses the prospects for further research in this area, in particular, the possibility of creating a specialized dictionary of homonyms or computer algorithms for automatic homonym distinction. The following research methods were used: comparative and historical, semantic analysis, and contextual analysis. The study of lexical homonymy in the Ukrainian and Slovak languages allowed us to identify key patterns and develop new approaches to solving problems related to this phenomenon. The paper analyzes homonymic pairs, studies their functioning in communicative situations and proposes innovative solutions for interlingual communication. The author proposes an innovative approach to accurately determine the meanings of homonyms in context through a three-level disambiguation system. This system includes three complementary levels of analysis. This system is particularly effective for Ukrainian-Slovak pairs, where homonyms often have asymmetrical meanings. The system can be used as a basis for developing a specialized electronic dictionary of homonyms for Ukrainian-Slovak translations, which would simplify the work of linguists and translators. In: Social Science & Medicine. Amsterdam : Elsevier B.V., 2025. ISSN 0277-9536. No. 367 (2025), pp. 1-9.The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has been widely recognized as a potential contributor to the emergence of vaccine scepticism and refusal. However, a direct correlation between trust in CAM and vaccine scepticism is still a matter of discussion. The objective of this study is to explore the multidimensional factors that explain the association between CAM usage and vaccine scepticism. Qualitative and quantitative research designs were adopted to examine whether visiting CAM practitioners directly contributes to vaccine scepticism and to identify whether antivaccination attitudes are caused by other social, and cultural factors. These findings support the idea that CAM users tend to exhibit more vaccine scepticism compared to non-users. However, preferring a holistic health model, individual autonomy, and a negative perception of biomedicine representatives emerged as more influential factors in understanding the connection between the prevalence of CAM utilization and vaccine scepticism. Taken together, these results suggest that CAM itself is not the direct predictor of vaccine scepticism. To build trust between the population and vaccines, this information can be used to develop targeted interventions aimed at strategies to improve healthcare services and develop the soft skills of medical doctors.VEGA 1/0381/22 Kultúrne a hodnotové súvislosti súčasného využívania komplementárnej a alternatívnej medicíny (CAM) na Slovensku European Union's Horizon Europe 101079219 The Brridge projec

In: Access to justice in Eastern Europe : AJEE : peer-reviewed journal. Kyjev : Publishing House VD "Dakor", 2025. ISSN 2663-0575. Vol. 8, no. 1 (2025), pp. 218-240.Background: This paper addresses key issues related to the tools used to approximate the definitions of selected crimes within specific areas of the fight against organised crime. Despite the pursuit of communitarisation, some legal constitutions have remained rooted in an intergovernmental approach. Accordingly, this article examines individual international documents that served as the basis for selected international criminal offences incorporated into the Slovak Criminal Code. As with any process of harmonisation involving the legal regulations of individual states, aligning European Union law with Slovak Criminal Law was not easy, and many application problems arose. In this article, we focus on these challenges and explore possible solutions. Methods: In this contribution, standard methods commonly employed in the processing of scientific and professional texts focused on "European" criminal law were applied. The dominant method was the so-called analytical method, mainly used to examine current legislation related to the discussed issue. Additionally, a content and functional analysis of the most important institutes, which were contained in relevant international documents and important court decisions, was carried out. In the case of comparisons between Slovak and European legislation, a comparative method was used. Subsequently, conclusions were formulated using the synthetic method, the aim of which was to present proposals to eliminate shortcomings and improve the current legislation. Results and Conclusions: Through the analysis and comparison of relevant legal frameworks, several findings emerged. Specifically, we have found that the Slovak Criminal Code understands the concept of "organised criminal group" significantly more broadly than the relevant Framework Decision. This fact could cause problems in the recognition of decisions by other states. Additionally, the absence of a uniform definition of the concept of "terrorism" within the European Union is problematic as it may lead to inconsistencies that interfere with fundamental human rights and freedoms. In the field of drug trafficking, while no significant application problems were found in connection with the application of European Union law and the Criminal Code, disparities across the entire European Union, particularly in the criminalisation/decriminalisation of selected types of drugs and the varying severity of sanctions imposed by Member States. For arms trafficking, flaws were identified in the implementation of the relevant protocol into Slovak law, particularly in the definition and treatment of firearms parts and components. In cases of trafficking in human beings committed by a legal entity, the Criminal Code fails to meet the requirements of the relevant directive regarding the punishment of legal entities. Finally, the directive on environmental crimes contains vague terms which may cause application problems when approximating the provisions of the directive in relation to other states

In: Wiadomości lekarskie = Medical advances : organ Polskiego towarzystwa lekarskiego. Konstancin-Jeziorna : Wydawnictwo Aluna, 2025. ISSN 0043-5147. Vol. 78, no. 4 (2025), pp. 930-936.Aim: To comprehensively analyze the theoretical and practical aspects of the implementation of fourth-generation rights in the field of healthcare in Ukraine. Materials and Methods: This study examines Ukraine’s Constitution, codes, laws, and regulations, along with international treaties, European Court of Human Rights decisions, and scholarly works on fourth-generation human rights. Conclusions: Fourth-generation healthcare rights represent a novel legal phenomenon emerging from the biomedical revolution, encompassing legal opportunities for individuals to utilize modern medical technologies for personal needs. In Ukraine, the implementation system remains underdeveloped in both regulatory and institutional mechanisms. Effective implementation requires balancing private rights with public interests, aligning national legislation with international standards, and establishing functional institutional mechanisms—particularly crucial in today’s global challenges
