The expanded theory of planned behavior for energy saving among academics in Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Slovakia
In: Scientific Reports. London : Nature Publishing Group, 2025. ISSN 2045-2322. Vol. 15, no 1 (2025), pp. 1-14.Given the escalating global energy consumption and the concurrent economic and energy crises, energy-saving behaviour must be adopted on a large scale. Universities that are energy-intensive institutions should be one of the institutions where energy-saving behaviour is widely adopted. Academics devote a substantial portion of their time to their offices, which leads to increased energy usage. However, no study has investigated academics’ energy-saving behaviours in the literature. Most studies focus on students or employees in various organizations. Our study tries to cover the gap by examining the energy-saving behaviour of academics in four countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Slovakia) based on the expanded Theory of Planned Behaviour. A questionnaire was distributed to 228 academics from the four countries to gather data. The research hypotheses were tested using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The findings show that individual factors (attitude and perceived behaviour control) influence the energy-saving intention of academics but not the organisational factors due to the weak identification with their universities. The study offers valuable insights for policymakers seeking to promote energy-saving programs in academic institutions. The academics can be seen as role models for their students which emphasizes the need to study more their sustainable behaviours.Erasmus+ 2021-1-RO01-KA220-HED-000030286 Applying some advanced technologies in teaching and research, in relation to air pollutio
Yes or no to the reopening of the Belianske Tatras for tourism?
In: Public recreation and landscape protection - hand in hand ... : proceedings of the 16th conference / rec. Jitka Fialová, Matúš Jakubis ... [et al.]. 1. vyd. Brno : Mendelova univerzita v Brně, 2025. ISBN 978-80-7701-026-9. ISSN 2336-6311. S. 361-367.In recent decades, recreational intensity in protected areas has increased considerably. Due to the impact of climate change, tourists are increasingly looking for alpine areas where the climate is cooler. Therefore, the question arises whether to open the limestone Belianske Tatras, which have been closed to tourists since 1978 due to destruction by mass tourism, again. Alpine ecosystems are generally considered to be sensitive and fragile to disturbance and slow to recover, due to short growing season and a harsh climate, in combination with poor soil conditions. In 1993, the National Park/Biosphere Reserve Administration opened one one-way hiking trail in the territory, since 2009 it has been accessible in both directions. However, it turns out that human recreational activities, such as walking, cause direct mechanical disturbance of natural ecosystems with undesirable effects on vegetation. That's why we conducted experimental trampling in the territory with monitoring of regeneration in selected communities, in 2008 in original communities and in 2022 in regenerated communities. The results showed that although communities respond somewhat more resiliently to trampling, this is at the expense of losing some species, with mosses and lichens responding with a delayed response and species loss.VEGA 2/0031/23 Analýzy a hodnotenia environmentálnej histórie vybraných typov krajiny Slovenska od mladšieho praveku po súčasnosť

As part of empirical research, we used the questionnaire method to address 2,768 primary school pupils in the Slovak Republic. In the research set, we identified 256 (9.3%) aggressors and 322 (11.6%) victims of cyberbullying. Based on the inferential analysis of the data, we identified a statistically significant weak positive relationship between the Cyberaggression Scale and the Social Motivation subscale of the Viral Internet Challenges Scale VICH-S (p= 0.040, rs=128) and also a statistically significant weak positive relationship between the Cyberspace Victimization Scale and subscale Social motivation (p= 0.001, rs=166).KEGA 024UMB-4/2022 Prevencia online rizikového správani
Post-pandemic consumer behavior: reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic lessons
In: 6th virtual international conference path to a knowledge society-managing risks and innovation. 1. vyd. Niš : Complex system research centre, 2025. ISBN 978-86-82602-04-0. Pp. 185-191.The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted societies all around the world. Currently, almost a year after the pandemic's conclusion, it is obvious that this period of adversity created changes that prevail. The main aim of this paper was to explore these changes and outline future trends in consumer behavior. The findings of this research are based on a survey conducted on a representative sample of consumers from the selected country. This method for collecting and processing data enabled the results to be based solely on consumers’ opinions and experiences. According to the data, the main aspect of consumer behavior that prevailed is the online shopping and preference for food delivery. The phenomenon that was important during the pandemic but disappeared completely was the preference for shopping unaccompanied.VEGA (1/0134/22 Zmeny v spotrebiteľskom správaní vplyvom pandémie COVID-19 za účelom predikcie jeho vývoj
Sustainability index of pension systems
This monograph aims to compute Slovakia’s sustainability index by apply-ing four distinct weighting methods to the nine contributing indicators and to analyze and compare the resulting values with those of selected European countries. The sustainability index considers key demographic and economic indicators that are essential for the long-term funding of pension systems. Specifically, it includes factors like the old-age dependency ratio, retirement age, savings rate, government debt levels, public pension spending, and real economic growth. Based on these indicators, sustainability is evaluated as the system’s capacity to secure long-term financing without requiring frequent interventions or reforms that might impact the quality of the pensions delivered.VEGA 1/0124/24 Slovakia in the context of the pension index and the population ageing index - a perspective of the futur
The post-urban hypothesis
In: Global Challenges & Regional Science. Amsterdam : Elsevier B.V., 2025. ISSN 3050-502X. Vol. 1, no. 1 (2025), pp. 1-9.There is a growing awareness that the current, almost total domination of cities in the world is an expression of a new stage of human civilization. “Complete urbanization”, “planetary urbanization”, “post-rurality”, “post-metropolitan” and “post-urban world” are some concepts being used to describe this emerging era. This paper aims at 1) form a synthesis of this broad literature, which in each area mark major changes but taken together form component parts of a fundamental transformation; and 2) based on an interaction-cost perspective, analyze the driving forces of the post-urban development. Based on this analysis, an agenda for further research is formulated.European Union's Horizon Europe 101079219 The Brridge project

The use of image analysis in improving knowledge and skills on the example of teaching the biology of algae and fungi
In: Education and information technologies : the official journal of the IFIP technical committee on education. Cham : Springer Nature Switzerland AG, 2025. ISSN 1360-2357. Vol. 30, no. 4 (2025), 4841.We investigated the effect of short-term teaching (3 weeks) using image analysis on gymnasium/secondary school students’ (ISCED3A) skills (science process skills, SPS) and knowledge using Fiji (ImageJ) software. The theoretical teaching was combined with IT-based education (measurement of the area or signal intensity on photos from scientific papers using algae Ulva or Coccomyxa and the fungus Glomerella) and students formed conclusions from data and answered knowledge questions. Experimental education increased score (post-test/pre-test) in the area of knowledge (by 102%) and SPS (by 44%) and greater impact of IT implementation on the development of girls’ SPS and knowledge was found. Besides, the Pearson’s correlation analysis showed a more intense improvement of students who had greater deficiencies in pre-test. This experimental gymnasium group (n = 53) also retained a higher score in re-test in comparison with control gymnasium students (without the implementation of image analysis, n = 54) and detailed analysis of individual questions revealed that there was a development of SPS, especially those that were emphasized in the experimental teaching. Another control group “university students” (ISCED5A, n = 19) had a higher score in re-test than the experimental gymnasium group, but the area of knowledge was comparable. These results indicate that the involvement of IT improves SPS and knowledge of gymnasium students at the level comparable with university students. The test and worksheets are attached for free use with the aim of improving the teaching of less interesting topics such as botany
Role of anti-bribery management system in sustainable development of entrepreneurship and public policy: a qualitative study
In: Future Business Journal. New York : Springer, 2025. ISSN 2314-7202. Vol. 11 (2025), pp. 1-13.Purpose: One of the key aspects of entrepreneurship is its ability to instigate changes in societies. The aim of this research was to discover how implementation of an anti-bribery management system (ABMS) can support the drive of small and medium enterprises toward sustainable development and inspire solutions to the complex social challenge that bribery represents.
Methodology: Empirical qualitative research was performed to collect and analyze the data. Sample file consisted of 119 managers of small and medium enterprises from 17 different EU member states who were individually interviewed.
Findings: Managers of small and medium enterprises in Europe are aware that their ABMS affects sustainable development, but they do not actively develop this connection. A high proportion of managers also perceive the relationship between ABMS and entrepreneurship as disproportional. The only exception is building relationships with stakeholders. The perception of the impact of ABMS on the development of public policy was evaluated even worse. Managers, mainly from Eastern European countries, perceive public policy as an obstacle to sustainable development and their entrepreneurship, rather than considering how their ABMS can contribute to the development of public policy. This research revealed clear gaps between theoretical concepts and managers’ experiences.
Originality: This research provides a significant contribution to understanding the link between anti-bribery management systems and entrepreneurs through experiences of managers whose enterprises had implemented anti-bribery measures. Most of the research on bribery focused on exploring its impacts from a legal point of view; however, this research provides a managerial perspective.VEGA 1/0023/25 Možnosti a bariéry implementácie protikorupčných manažérskych systémov v praxi slovenských podniko
