Territorial self-government as an environment of social work using a helping relationship to solve the social problems of inhabitants of local communities
In: Slovak Journal of Public Policy and Public Administration = Slovenská revue pre verejnú politiku a verejnú správu : SJPPPA. Trnava : Univerzita sv. Cyrila a Metoda v Trnave, 2024. ISSN 1339-5637. Vol. 11, no. 2 (2024), pp. 103-122.The territorial self-government environment creates opportunities for social work to intervene in citizens' individual, group, and community social problems, which benefits not only members of local communities but also the territorial self-government. The most effective means of social work intervention for the benefit of residents of territorial self-government is helping relationships. Therefore, we set the goal of our empirical research to identify factors that stimulate clients to solve their social problems within a helping relationship with a social worker in the conditions of a territorial self-government. In the theoretical part of the contribution, we deal with the application of social work in the conditions of territorial self-government in the Slovak Republic, as well as the helping alliance in social work
Local self-government economy management within the chosen aspects context
In: Naděje právní vědy 2024 : právní věda v praxi / rec. Michal Dittrich, Kateřina Heřmanová ... [et al.]. 1. vyd. Plzeň : Západočeská univerzita v Plzni, 2025. ISBN 978-80-261-1322-5. Zároveň, obecné zastupiteľstvo a zastupiteľstvo vyššieho územného celku disponujú oprávneniami a prerogatívami moci vo svojom územnom obvode, a to sa prejavuje najmä v prijímaní všeobecne záväzných nariadení.
Beyond the snapshot: Fostering cultural literacy in the classroom with photovoice
In: Social Sciences & Humanities Open. Amsterdam : Elsevier B.V., 2025. ISSN 2590-2911. Vol. 12 (2025), art. no. 102063, pp. [1-12].This article presents the outcomes of a photovoice workshop implemented in an academically gifted program in Pennsylvania, United States. The study's primary objective was to investigate the efficacy of photovoice, using cyanotype-style photographs, when used as an educational strategy for enhancing the cultural literacy experiences of gifted middle school students through creativity and discussion. The project, which involved 36 sixth-grade students aged 11–12, was led by an associate professor from the University of Delaware's Department of Art and Design in conjunction with the school's gifted education teachers. The thematic analysis of student work, using Hall’s (1976) Cultural Iceberg Theory, demonstrated the effectiveness of the photovoice workshop in fostering cultural literacy. The workshop ultimately fostered the students' understanding of various aspects and dimensions of cultural competence
Education and life ambitions of Roma pupils. A case study of two schools in Central Slovakia
In: Národopisný věstník = (Bulletin d´etnologie). Praha : Česká národopisná společnost, 2025. ISSN 1211-8117. Roč. 84, č. 1 (2025), s. 28-45.This study examines the educational and life ambitions of Roma pupils in Central Slovakia through the lens of cultural capital. Using Bourdieu’s concept, it analyses how family background, socio-economic conditions, and cultural resources shape students’ academic outcomes. Based on surveys and field research conducted in two schools with a high Roma population, the findings indicate that limited cultural capital and poverty constrain educational opportunities. Despite these barriers, school initiatives and teacher support help to mitigate these disadvantages, fostering a positive reading culture and student aspirations. The study emphasizes the need for parental engagement, support structures, and policy measures to enhance educational outcomes for Roma pupils.VEGA 1/0720/22 Kultúrny kapitál rodiny a jeho vplyv na školskú úspešnosť det

Each presentation, each abstract, and each discussion has the potential to spark new ideas and to inspire progress in our respective disciplines
Using a two-step clustering approach to examine judiciary efficiency in European countries
In: Economic Research Guardian = EcRG. Dumbrăvița : Weissberg SRL, 2025. ISSN 2247-8531. Vol. 15, no. 1 (2025), pp. 142-160.Panel data, also known as longitudinal data, is collected and analysed across various research areas. This type of data consists of statistical objects that are periodically observed over time. In comparison to cross-sectional data, there are significantly fewer clustering techniques available for panel data. Therefore, the main objective of the contribution is to present a two-step clustering approach. In the first step, the panel data are transformed into a static form using a set of proposed characteristics that capture time dynamics. In the second step, the objects are clustered using conventional spatial clustering algorithms, such as K-means clustering or hierarchical partitioning. The clustering performance of this approach is then compared to that of the well-known KML method using real panel data sets. These datasets include indicators that assess the effectiveness of courts at the first instance level. Factors like digitalisation in the public sector are affecting the judiciary's efficiency during this period. The methodology implemented allowed us to categorise European countries based on the efficiency of their courts while capturing the dynamic trends. This approach is generally helpful in assessing and comparing the efficiency of public spending and evaluating the quality of public institutions, including courts.VEGA 1/0411/24 Vplyv ekonomických nástrojov verejnej politiky na digitálnu pripravenosť podnikov

Enhancing intercultural competence in higher education through media-based learning
In: Revista on Line de Politica e Gestao Educacional. Araraquara : Universidade Estadual Paulista, 2025. ISSN 1519-9029. Plán obnovy a odolnosti SR 09I03-03-V01-00148 Štipendiá pre excelentných výskumníkov z Ukrajin
Development of the cultural landscape of the Slovak enclave Mlynky (Pest County, Hungary) and the possibilities of its sustainable present use
In: Urban Science. Basel : Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, 2025. ISSN 2413-8851. Vol. 9, no 9 (2025), pp. 1-23.The landscape of Mlynky Village, situated in the north–northwest part of Pest County, is characterized by preserved areas of historical cultural landscape and monuments, which were created or rebuilt mainly by Slovak colonists’ activities. The aim of this study was the cultural–ecological characterization of the Slovak enclave Mlynky territory and the reconstruction of the land use (historical land use), with an emphasis on the period from the mid-18th century (from the founding of the village on the land of the Pauline monastery) to 2022. We used the findings on land use changes to develop an integrated landscape management approach, which we present as two framework proposals. They aim to coordinate the development of anthropogenic activities in the present while preserving the cultural–historical potential of the studied area (rescue, revitalization, and protection of selected landscape archetypes) since the natural beauty and historical values of the landscape of the studied area have been protected since 1997 by the legislation of the Danube–Ipoly National Park. The research results also confirm the importance of natural driving forces that played a fundamental role in cultivating the local landscape during the period under study. This fact is reflected in the relatively small areas with high anthropogenic use (arable land and permanent grasslands).VEGA 1/0770/24 Zaniknutá krajina Mateja Bela (rekonštrukcia a environmentálne dejiny historickej krajiny v 18. storočí
Land use changes and their impact on the value of ecosystem services in the model region
In: Journal of geoscience and environment protection. Wuhan : Scientific Research Publishing, 2025. ISSN 2327-4336. Vol. 13, no. 8 (2025), pp. 193-206.The quantification and evaluation of ecosystem services represent key drivers for the sustainable development of human activities, particularly within the framework of natural capital management. This study aims to assess the effects of land use change on both the non-monetary and monetary values of ecosystem services through the application of a matrix-based evaluation approach. In the Brezno District, the total ecosystem service score exhibited only a marginal decline of 0.99% over the observed 20-year period. Nevertheless, when expressed in monetary terms, this reduction corresponds to a loss of €4,715,502. Changes in land use most notably influence the potential for provisioning and regulating ecosystem services.APVV-18-0035 Oceňovanie ekosystémových služieb prírodného kapitálu ako nástroja hodnotenia sociálno-ekonomického potenciálu území
