    The Architecture and Village-Spatial Organization of the Middle PPNB Period at Boncuklu Tarla: Some Observations on the Domestic and Public Areas

    Boncuklu Tarla is a settlement located within the borders of the village of Il & imath;su in the Darge & ccedil;it district of Mardin. The settlement provides important information on the architecture ofthe PPNA and PPNB periods, in particularthe architectural traditions ofthe Middle PPNB, the focus ofthis article. In addition, these remain to allow the evaluation of village-space organization. The architectural remains found at Boncuklu Tarla also provide the opportunity to compare the Middle PPNB period architecture unearthed atvarious settlements such as & Ccedil;ay & ouml;n & uuml;, Nevali & Ccedil;ori, Gritille, Tell Halula, Akar & ccedil;ay Tepe, Gre F & imath;lla and Cafer H & ouml;y & uuml;k in a regional context. This study aims to present and discuss new information on how village spatial organization changed within the PPNB period, following on from previous discussions on the PPNA period data. Especially within the Middle PPNB period, it is thought that the village spatial organization model of being centered around public buildings was abandoned at Boncuklu Tarla. It is believed that with this change the public buildings were separated from the dwellings but still influenced their spatial organization

    Anticancer, Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activity of Elaeagnus Angustifolia L. Leaf Extract

    Objective: This study was conducted to determine and compare the antioxidant, cytotoxic, and antimicrobial effects of spindle leaves of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. (E. angustifolia) (oleaster) leaves. Methods: Total phenolic content was measured using the Folin-Ciocalteu method, phenolic compound analysis by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) and antimicrobial effect by the minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) method. The free radical scavenging activity was determined by the (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) DPPH method, the free radical scavenging activity was determined by the ABTS method, and cytotoxicity assays were performed by the MTT method in human retinal epithelium cells (RPE-1), human osteosarcoma cells (U2OS), and prostate cancer cells (DU-145) cell lines. Results: High amounts of gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, and o-coumaric acid were identified as phenolic compounds. E. angustifolia was found to have a good antioxidant capacity and high free radical scavenging capacity. In this study, for the first time, E. angustifolia leaf extract was used to investigate cytotoxic effects on human retinal epithelium (RPE-1), human osteosarcoma cells (U2OS), and prostate cancer (DU-145) cells and antimicrobial effects on Listeria monocytogenes American Type Culture Collection (ATTC) 7644, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 11774, and Candida albicans ATCC 10231 microorganisms. The highest cytotoxic effect was observed in the DU-145 cell line, and the highest antimicrobial effect was observed in Listeria monocytogenes ATTC 7644 and Candida albicans ATCC 10231. The leaf extract of the plant contains some important phenolic compounds and has high free radical scavenging capacity, a good anticancer effect, and effective antimicrobial activity on yeast species such as C. albicans. Conclusion: Our study will contribute greatly to the search for anticancer and antimicrobial agents, especially from a pharmacological perspective, by examining biological activity using three different methods

    İslâm dininin temel iki kaynağından biri olan hadisler, tarihi süreç içerisinde ortaya çıkan iç çekişmeler, siyasi ve sosyo-kültürel gelişmeler nedeniyle asr-ı saadetten bu yana Hz. Peygamber’e aidiyetleri, delil değerleri ve anlaşılmaları tartışmalara konu olmuştur. İslâm dininin bizatihi kendi içerisinde ortaya çıkan ekol ve düşünce akımları söz konusu tartışmalara büyük oranda yön vermişlerdir. Nitekim ortaya çıkan her düşünce geleneği belli ilke ve esaslar etrafında teşekkülünü tamamlamıştır. Bu nedenle de gerek kendilerini meşru göstermek, temellendirmek veya görüşlerini delillendirmek için bahsi geçen hususlar üzerinden hadislere yaklaşıldığı görülmektedir. Bu ekollerden biri de Mu’tezile’dir. İslâm düşünce geleneğine farklı bir bakış açısı kazandıran Mu’tezile’nin rivayetlere yaklaşımında farklı bir perspektif benimseyip benimsemediklerinin tespiti gibi bu konuda geliştirdikleri torilerinde ehl-i sünnet ile örtüştükleri veya ayrıştıkları hususların ortaya çıkarılması da önem kazanmıştır. Bu nedenle de ayın ikiye yarılması mucizesini konu edinen inşkakü’l-kamer rivayetlerini Mu’tezilî ulemanın başta kendi eserleri olmak üzere hadiseyi konu edinen çalışmalar üzerinden Mu’tezili geleneğin hadis anlama ve yorumlama mototları incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Yapılan araştırmalar neticesinde mezhebin temel esasları etrafında şekillenen inşikâkü’l-kamer gibi tikel bazı rivayetlerde temel ilkelerine halel gelmemesi için muhaddislerle ayrı düştükleri birçok konuda onlara paralel cevaplar ürettikleri ve bu konuda bazı teorilerinden ödün verdikleri görülmüştür

    Investigation of the Effects of Air Alert III Exercises on Some Physical Parameters in Midi Girls Volleyball Players

    Sanal, Alperen/0000-0002-6852-8990This study aims to examine the effect of modified Air Alert III exercises, a jump training program in basketball, on vertical jump, agility and balance performance in middle school female volleyball players. Sixteen 13-year-old female athletes, including 8 in the experimental group and 8 in the control group, participated after completing at least three years of regular volleyball training. The Air Alert III program applied to the experimental group includes exercises where the types and rest periods between sets remain constant, but the number of repetitions and sets reduced by 50%. The program continued for 15 weeks, while the control group maintained their regular training routine. Statistical analyses, performed using SPSS 25.0, show differences between the pre-test and post-test results of the groups, assessed using the Two-Way ANOVA. The significance level set at p.01). These findings indicate that the Air Alert III program serves as an alternative training method for enhancing vertical jump, agility, and balance in volleyball players

    An Investigation of the Role of Trace Elements and Biochemical Parameters in Patients With COVID-19

    Aim: The COVID-19 pandemic is an emergent viral respiratory disease characterized by high fever and shortness of breath, and it was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020. Early assessment of patients’ biochemical tests is important for accelerating diagnosis, allowing effective treatment, and controlling the further spread of the disease. The present study aimed to investigate the association between the disease, trace elements -including copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), selenium (Se), manganese (Mn), and cobalt (Co) vitamin D, Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) biochemical levels, and the correlation between the parameters tested in patients with COVID-19. Methods: In our study, 40 patients (case group) who were hospitalized with a diagnosis of COVID-19 based on chest X-ray images and RT-PCR results evaluated by an infectious diseases specialist were included, along with 40 healthy individuals (control group) over the age of 18 who had no prior symptoms of COVID-19, no visits to a medical doctor for COVID-19, and no history of hospitalization due to the disease. Beckman Coulter AU5800 (Beckman Coulter, Brea, CA, USA) autoanalyzer was used for spectrophotometric analyses of clinical biochemistry tests, and vitamin D levels were examined using the HPLC method with the Shimadzu SIL-20A HT autosampler. Levels of trace elements-including Cu, Zn, Se, Mn, and Co-were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) on an ICP-MS Bruker Aurora M90 analytical complex. The normal distribution hypothesis for the variables in question was tested using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test. Student’s t-test was used for intergroup comparisons of variables meeting the normal distribution hypothesis, whereas Mann–Whitney U test was used for variables that did not meet the hypothesis. Results: Vitamin D levels were much lower in the case group (12.05 ng/mL ± 6.27) compared to the control group (23.54 ng/mL ± 10.54), and the difference was statistically significant (p Conclusion: Decreased levels of vitamin D and trace elements (Se, Zn, Mg and Cu) are associated with the development of viral pathogens, including COVID-19, as well as increased ALT and AST parameters. It was concluded that a diet rich in vitamins and trace elements would strengthen the immune system, reduce the rate of virus spread, and slow down the disease aggravation

    Effects of Ranolazine on Angiogenesis and Oxidant-Antioxidant Balance: An in Vivo Experimental Model Study

    Kayan, Fethullah/0000-0002-8875-5672;Ranolazine is known for its antiarrhythmic, antianginal, anti-ischemic properties, as well as its favorable effects on glycemic control. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of ranolazine on oxidative-antioxidative balance and angiogenesis using an in vivo experimental model. A total of 40 Ross 308 chick embryos were used and randomly divided into four groups (n = 10 per group). On the eighth day of incubation, vascular density was assessed. Following vascular evaluation, 4-5 mL of albumen was aspirated using a syringe to measure oxidative stress markers. The groups were as follows: Control, Bevacizumab (BC), Ranolazine 10(-4), and Ranolazine 10(-5). Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) levels were significantly higher in the bevacizumab group compared to the control group (p 0.05). This study provides the first in vivo evidence that Ranolazine enhances total antioxidant capacity but does not influence angiogenesis in the CAM model. Future research should explore the molecular mechanisms underlying this effect

    Teknolojik gelişmelerle birlikte yönetişim anlayışı köklü bir değişim geçirirken, yapay zekâ yeni bir aktör olarak karar alma süreçlerinde giderek daha fazla rol oynamaktadır. Geleneksel yönetişim mekanizmaları insan odaklı bir yapıdayken yapay zekâ destekli sistemler veri analitiği, otomatik karar alma ve öngörülebilirlik gibi yetenekleriyle kamu yönetimi, ekonomi ve hukuk gibi alanlarda etkili olmaktadır. Yapay zekâ, sadece teknik bir araç değil, aynı zamanda yönetişim süreçlerini yeniden tanımlayan stratejik bir aktör haline gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada değişen yönetişim anlayışı çerçevesinde yapay zekânın yeni bir aktör olarak nasıl konumlandığı incelenmektedir. Çalışmanın temel amacı, yapay zekânın yönetişim mekanizmalarına entegrasyonu, karar alma süreçlerindeki rolü ve kamu politikalarına etkisinin değerlendirilerek yapay zekânın yönetişimde şeffaflık, hesap verebilirlik ve etkinlik açısından sunduğu fırsatları ve riskleri irdelemektir. Nitel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı bu çalışmada, yönetişim anlayışının nasıl evrildiğine ve yapay zekânın bu dönüşümdeki rolüne ilişkin kapsamlı bir literatür taraması yapılmıştır. Yapay zekânın daha hızlı ve verimli kararlar alınmasını sağlayarak yönetişim süreçlerinde etkin bir aktör olarak yer aldığı ancak etik, güvenlik ve denetim mekanizmalarının geliştirilmesi gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.     An Energy Storage Unit Design for a Piezoelectric Wind Energy Harvester with a High Total Harmonic Distortion

    Kurt, Erol/0000-0002-3615-6926;A new energy storage unit, which is fed by a piezoelectric wind energy harvester, is explored. The outputs of a three-phase piezoelectric wind energy device have been initially recorded from the laboratory experiments. Following the records of voltage outputs, the power ranges of the device were measured at several hundred microwatts. The main issue of piezoelectric voltage generation is that voltage waveforms of piezoelectric materials have high total harmonic distortion (THD) with incredibly high subharmonics and superharmonics. Therefore, such a material reply causes a certain power loss at the output of the wind energy generator. In order to fix this problem, we propose a combination of a rectifier and a storage system, where they can operate compatibly under high THD rates (i.e., 125%). Due to high THD values, current-voltage characteristics are not linear-dependent; indeed, because of capacitive effect of the piezoelectric (i.e., lead zirconium titanite) material, harvested power from the material is reduced by nearly a factor of 20% in the output. That also negatively affects the storage on the Li-based battery. In order to compensate, the output waveform of the device, the waveforms, which are received from the energy-harvester device, are first rectified by a full-wave rectifier that has a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) unit. The SOC values prove that almost 40% of the charge is stored in 1.2 s under moderate wind speeds, such as 6.1 m/s.
