Evolving Policies of the EU Towards Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Changing Actor Identities and Geostrategic Interests
From the 1980s onwards, the EU took a balanced approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In the last two decades, the EU has abandoned its role as a normative and neutral player. It appeared to address the Israe- li-Palestinian conflict within the context of security. On this basis, the paper aims to assess changing policies of the EU towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since the early 1970s. By revisiting constructivist theories, the study attempts to find out the role of the identities in the EU’s policies toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It concludes that the shift in the identities of the major political actors from the Palestine Liberation Organization to Hamas led to the reformulation of its policy toward Israeli-Palestinian conflict
The Effect of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy–Based Psychoeducation on Medication Adherence and Aggression in Individuals Diagnosed With Schizophrenia: an Experimental Study
Introduction: It is known that treatment compliance is low and aggression is higher in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia compared to the normal population. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is known to reduce relapse and hospitalisation and increase well-being in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. However, there are almost no studies on increasing treatment compliance and decreasing aggression. Aims: This study was conducted to determine how CBT–based psychoeducation affects medication adherence and aggression in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Methods: The study was conducted as a quasi-experimental model with the pre-test–post-test control group with 73 schizophrenic patients (33 experimental, 40 control) between June 2022 and July 2023. Data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS) and Buss–Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPSQ). The schizophrenic patients in the experimental group were given eight sessions of CBT-based psychoeducation, while the schizophrenic patients in the control group were not given any training. The data were analysed using mean, standard deviation, chi-squared test, dependent samples t-test and independent samples t-test. Results: It was determined that the aggression level of the experimental group before the training was 80.51 ± 19.38, and after the CBT-based psychoeducation, it was 73.12 ± 15.28. It was determined that the aggression level of the control group before the training was 84.22 ± 12.13, and after the post-test, it was 85.60 ± 11.72. It was determined that the medication adherence level of the experimental group before the training was 2.75 ± 1.25, and after the CBT-based psychoeducation, it was 3.57 ± 0.67. It was determined that the medication adherence level of the control group before the training was 2.05 ± 1.33, and after the post-test, it was 2.17 ± 1.36. The psychoeducation based on CBT caused a statistically significant difference (p = 0.001) in medication adherence and aggression levels in the experimental group. Discussion: It was determined that CBT applied to individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia was effective on increasing their medication adherence and reducing their aggression. It is recommended for psychiatric nurses to include CBT-based psychoeducation in their nursing practices in order to increase medication adherence and reduce aggression in individuals with schizophrenia. Implications for Practice: The findings emphasise that CBT-based psychoeducation increases treatment adherence and significantly decreases the level of aggression in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Evaluation of Children and Adolescents With Thalassemia Major in Terms of Osteoporosis: a Single-Centre Experience
Background/Objectives: This study aimed to determine the frequency of osteoporosis in children and adolescents with thalassemia major (TM) and to identify risk factors for the early development of osteoporosis. Methods: This retrospective study included 27 patients under 18 years of age receiving regular blood transfusions and chelation therapy for TM at our hospital. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, and a lumbar spine Z-score <-2 was considered osteoporotic. Patients with osteoporosis were classified as Group 1 and those without osteoporosis as Group 2. Results: Osteoporosis was detected in 22.2% of the study population. The mean age was 13.83 +/- 2.85 years in Group 1 and 7.95 +/- 5.05 years in Group 2 (p = 0.012). Body weight and height were significantly lower in Group 1 (p = 0.012 and p = 0.004). Ferritin levels were 5306 +/- 1506 ng/mL in Group 1 and 2020 +/- 1205 ng/mL in Group 2, and the difference was significant (p = 0.001). Group 1 had significantly lower Ca and P levels (p < 0.001, p = 0.038). BMD was negatively correlated with ferritin (r = -0.791, p < 0.001) and positively correlated with calcium (r = 0.499, p = 0.008). Conclusions: Osteoporosis is a common condition in TM patients. Patients with risk factors should be followed more closely. These patients should be identified before BMD decreases. To prevent osteoporosis, regular BMD scans should be performed, calcium and vitamin D supplementation should be provided, and physical activity should be encouraged
Beşinci Düzey Liderliğin Kavramsal ve Uygulamalı İncelenmesi
Bu araştırmanın amacı Beşinci Düzey Liderliğin kavramsal açıdan incelemek ve devlet okullarındaki müdürlerin liderlik davranışlarını Beşinci Düzey Liderlik açısından araştırmaktır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, 2022-2023 yılında Mardin ilinde, çeşitli branşlarda çalışan 26 öğretmenden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri altı soruluk yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Beşinci Düzey Liderliğin karakteristik özelliklerinden alçak gönüllülük ve empati kurmanın, öğretmenlerin istekli bir şekilde okula gitmelerine katkı sunduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Araştırmada Beşinci Düzey Liderler ile çalışan öğretmenlerin mutlu ve huzurlu bir şekilde işe gittikleri, mesleki öz yeterliklerine katkı sunulduğu tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmada ulaşılan diğer sonuçlara göre okul müdürleri genel anlamda Beşinci Düzey Liderlik davranışlarından uzak bir profil sergilemektedirler. Öğretmenlerin görmek istedikleri müdür profili alçakgönüllü, bilgili, lisansüstü eğitim düzeyi olan, öğretmenleri anlamaya çalışan, kendini sürekli geliştiren, iletişime açık ve dış görünüşe önem veren bir yönetici olması yönündedir
Attitudes of Health Sciences Students in Turkey Towards Individuals With Different Sexual Orientations
Study was planned in a descriptive design to examine how the empathic tendencies of students in the Faculty of Health Sciences affect their attitudes toward individuals who have different sexual orientations and was conducted with seven hundred and six students. The data collected online using the Student Information Form, Empathic Tendency Scale (ETS) and Attitudes Toward Lesbian and Gay Men Scale (ATLGS). Participants' mean scores were 62.98 +/- 18.79 on the ESS and 29.02 +/- 10.75 on the ATLGS. When the correlation between ETS and ATLGS scores was analyzed, a positive and moderate (p<0.05) correlation (r = 0.62) was found between ETS and ATLGS scores. These scores were moderate and the correlation between ETS and ATLGS scores was significant (F=438.585; p<0.05). Empathic disposition explained 38.3% of the total change in ATLGS level (R2=0.383) and increased ATLGS level (B=0.620). It was found that as students' empathic skills improved, their homophobic attitudes decreased
Inequality at the Dawn of the Bronze Age: the Case of Başur Höyük, a Royal Cemetery at the Margins of the Mesopotamian World
On the upper reaches of the Tigris and Euphrates, archaeologists encounter evidence that challenges conventional understandings of early state formation as a transition from 'small-scale, egalitarian' to 'large-scale, stratified' societies. One such location is the Early Bronze Age cemetery of Ba & scedil;ur H & ouml;y & uuml;k, which presents evidence of grand funerary rituals-including 'retainer burials' and spectacular deposits of metallic wealth-in an otherwise small-scale, egalitarian setting. A further, puzzling feature of this cemetery is the preponderance of teenagers in the richest tombs. Ağızdan Ağza İletişimin Ziyaretçi Memnuniyetine Etkisinde Destinasyona Yönelik Değerlerin Aracılık Etkisi: Midyat Örneği
Çalışmanın temel amacı, Midyat bölgesinde ziyaretçi memnuniyeti üzerindeki ağızdan ağıza iletişimin etkisini ortaya çıkarmak ve ağızdan ağıza iletişim ile ziyaretçi memnuniyeti arasındaki dolaylı etkide kültürel destinasyon imajının bir aracı değişken olarak rolünü incelemektir. Verilerin toplanması için nicel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 26 (Demo) istatistik programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Güvenilirlik ve geçerlilik analizleri yapılmış ve tüm değişkenler için değerlerin iyi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Çalışma hipotezlerini test etmek ve doğruluğunu değerlendirmek amacıyla, kolayda örnekleme yöntemiyle 454 kişiden anket yoluyla veri toplanmıştır. Regresyon analizi SPSS 26 (Demo) Hayes PROCESS v4.2 programı kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sonuçlar, ağızdan ağıza iletişimin ziyaretçi memnuniyetini etkilediğini göstermiştir. Ayrıca kültürel destinasyon imajının ziyaretçi memnuniyeti üzerinde anlamlı ve olumlu bir etkisi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra sonuçlar, kültürel destinasyon imajının ağızdan ağıza iletişim ile ziyaretçi memnuniyeti arasındaki ilişkide aracılık etkisi olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına dayanarak, ziyaretçileri teşvik etmeye yönelik bir dizi öneri sunulmuş ve aracılığa ilişkin tüm hipotezlerin anlamlı olması sebebiyle kültürel destinasyon imajının hem bilişsel hem de duygusal aracılık rolü olduğu desteklenmektedir. Bölgenin kültürel destinasyon imajını, duygusal ve bilişsel yönlere odaklanarak güçlendirmek ve ziyaretçiler arasında kültürel sembolleri vurgulayan, bu kültürel sembollerin anlaşılmasını artıran turizm girişimlerinin sağlanması; kültürel destinasyon imajına dayalı turizme katkı sağlamaktadır. Bu bağlamda destinasyon yönetimi stratejilerine yönelik içgörüler sunarak; turizm alanındaki bilimsel araştırmaların önemini vurgulamaktadır.The main purpose of the study is to reveal the effect of word-of-mouth communication on visitor satisfaction in Midyat region and to examine the mediating role of cultural destination image in the relationship between word-of-mouth communication and visitor satisfaction. Quantitative method was used to collect the data. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS 26 (Demo) statistical program. Reliability and validity analyses were performed, and it was determined that the reliability coefficient was at good ratio for all variables. In order to test the hypothesis data were collected from 454 people through a survey using convenience sampling technique. Regression analysis was performed using SPSS 26 (Demo) Hayes PROCESS v4.2 program. The results showed that word-of-mouth communication affects visitor satisfaction. Additionally, it has been determined that the cultural destination image has a significant and positive impact on visitor satisfaction. Based on the results of the study, a series of recommendations have been proposed to encourage visitors, and since all mediation-related hypotheses were found to be significant, it is supported that the cultural destination image plays a mediating role both cognitively and emotionally. Strengthening the cultural destination image of the region by focusing on its emotional and cognitive aspects, and implementing tourism initiatives that highlight cultural symbols and enhance their understanding among visitors, contributes to tourism based on the cultural destination image. Additionally, it contributes to tourism based on the cultural destination image and highlights the importance of scientific research in tourism by providing insights into destination management strategies
Nano-Enabled Biochar Modulate Arsenic Toxicity in Plants: a Step Towards Crop Safety and Health
As global agricultural demands continue to rise amidst increasing environmental stressors, enhancing plant resilience has become a critical necessity. Heavy metals (HMs), especially arsenic (As), severely impact crop productivity and quality, threatening global food security and human health. Arsenic toxicity disrupts normal physiological, biochemical and molecular processes in food crops due to its eco-toxicological effects. Nano-enabled biochar (Nano-BC) has emerged as a promising soil amendment capable of mitigating As-induced oxidative stress in horticultural crops by modulating stress responses, enhancing detoxification pathways and improving plant resilience. This review comprehensively examines the interactions of Nano-BC with soil matrices and microbial communities, highlighting its dual role in influencing soil health and plant growth. While Nano-BC improves soil structure, increases nutrient retention and supports beneficial microbial populations, its potential long-term ecological impacts and interactions with native microbial communities require further evaluation. Furthermore, we discuss the mechanisms by which Nano-BC modulates As bioavailability, phyto-toxicity and detoxification pathways in horticultural crops. Advances in Nano-BC applications have demonstrated its potential in producing "pollution-safe" crops, yet challenges remain regarding its environmental fate and persistence. Future research should focus on optimizing Nano-BC formulations to enhance its efficiency while minimizing unintended ecological consequences. A Hybrid Machine Learning Approach for Predicting Power Transformer Failures Using Internet of Things-Based Monitoring and Explainable Artificial Intelligence

Failures in these units can lead to significant power outages and costly downtime. Existing maintenance strategies often fail to accurately predict such failures, highlighting the need for novel predictive approaches. This study aims to improve the reliability of power systems by predicting transformer failures through the integration of IoT technologies and advanced machine learning techniques. The proposed hybrid model combines the LightGBM algorithm with GridSearch optimization to achieve both high predictive accuracy and computational efficiency. In addition, the model enhances interpretability by incorporating SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) and Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME) for transparent decision making. The study presents a detailed comparison of different classification algorithms and evaluates their performance using metrics such as accuracy, recall, and F1 score. The results show that the hybrid model outperforms other methods, achieving an accuracy of 99.91%. The SHAP and LIME analyses provide engineers and researchers with valuable insights by highlighting the most influential features in failure prediction. In addition, the model's ability to efficiently handle large data sets enhances its practicality in real-world power systems.
