    No full text
Objective: To explore the relationship between mindful attention awareness and attitudes toward social handwashing among undergraduate nursing and midwifery students. Method: A cross-sectional and correlational study was conducted with 679 undergraduate nursing and midwifery students. Data were collected using two scales: (1) the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) and (2) the Attitude Scale toward Social Handwashing (ASSHW). Additionally, the participants provided data on their sociodemographic characteristics and responded to an inventory of handwashing practices. Relationships between scores were examined using Spearman's rho. Results: The students' mindful attention levels (MAAS) averaged 44.97 +/- 11.46, and their attitudes toward social handwashing (ASSHW) averaged 78.32 +/- 13.67. While no direct correlation was found between overall ASSHW and MAAS scores, there were positive correlations between mindful attention levels and certain ASSHW sub-dimensions, as well as with specific handwashing behaviors such as frequency and duration. Conclusion: These findings suggest that mindful attention may support better hand hygiene practices among nursing and midwifery students

The exile and settlement of North Caucasians in the Ottoman Empire is not well-studied in English academic literature. Vladimir Hamed-Troyansky's book is a well-researched work that helps fill this gap in the literature. It explores various aspects of North Caucasian exile and settlement, analysing both state perspectives-through a wide range of archival sources- and the experiences of the displaced people. Particularly significant is its use of letters written by the refugees (muhacirs), which amplify their voices and integrate them into academic discourse for the first time

    No full text
RationaleAdolescent depression is often linked to biological changes associated with stress. However, new approaches and treatment strategies for early intervention and prevention of depression in children and adolescents are still limited. Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic herb widely used in the management of anxiety and stress. However, there is no information in the current literature on its potential effect on adolescent depression.ObjectivesThis study aimed to investigate the effects of depression on proapoptotic proteins and neuroinflammation and the antidepressant effect of Ashwagandha on depression-like symptoms in adolescent rats exposed to the Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress (CUMS) model.MethodsIn the study, CUMS model was used to induce depression in adolescent rats. Rats were treated with Ashwagandha or Sertraline. To evaluate the antidepressant effects, behavioral tests as well as biochemical and histological analyses were performed. Forced Swim Test (FST), Sucrose Test and Elevated Plus Maze Test were performed as behavioral tests. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) were measured by the ELISA method in the fronto-parietal cortex. Proapoptotic proteins (Bax and Caspase-3) and inflammatory markers (TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta), as well as glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), were evaluated immunohistochemically in the fronto-parietal cortex.ResultsProapoptotic proteins (Bax and Caspase-3) and inflammatory markers (TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta) were increased in the CUMS group. BDNF and GFAP levels were decreased. Ashwagandha treatment was more effective than Sertraline in reducing the levels of these proteins and markers. Additionally, Ashwagandha prevented weight loss.ConclusionsAshwagandha showed antidepressant-like effects in adolescent rats, reducing apoptosis, inflammation, and neuroinflammation, suggesting potential for treating adolescent depression.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK); Mardin Artuklu University, Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit [MAUE.BAP.23.TIP.005]Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK). No full text
Aktan, Adem/0000-0003-0505-9784Background and Objectives: When pacemakers were first introduced, their indications and implantation techniques were quite limited. Over 400,000 permanent pacemakers are implanted annually worldwide, mostly under local anesthesia (LA), which is preferred for its hemodynamic stability. However, inadequate LA often leads to excessive use of local anesthetics or analgesics. This study evaluates the efficacy of combining interscalene brachial plexus block (ISB) and superficial cervical plexus block (SCPB) as regional anesthesia (RA) techniques during permanent pacemaker implantation compared to LA. Materials and Methods: A total of 42 patients were divided into RA and LA groups. The RA group underwent ISB and SCPB under ultrasound guidance, while the LA group received traditional local anesthetic methods. Results: The RA group exhibited superior pain control, reduced analgesic requirements, and higher satisfaction rates compared to the LA group. Ultrasound guidance enhanced block success rates and minimized complications. Conclusions: ISB and SCPB offer a superior alternative to LA for pacemaker implantation, especially in patients with anxiety or insufficient LA response

Anahtar Kelimeler: Derik, Geleneksel konut, Koruma, Mardin, RestorasyonThroughout history, the presence of various religious and cultural groups in the Derik district of Mardin has enriched its architectural environment. Derik reflects the authentic values of traditional settlement patterns through its castle, streets shaped according to the topography, religious structures, mansions, and houses. However, migration from rural areas to urban centers and large cities, along with the resulting change in the original inhabitants of the buildings, has led to an abandoned historical urban fabric. Although the district is home to many traditional residences, only four of them have been registered and preserved to the present day. This thesis study examines examples of civil architecture in Derik district, Mardin province. As part of this research, conservation projects were prepared for a second-degree registered traditional building located on parcel number 21 in block 561, which is one of the studied heritage houses. Within the scope of the thesis, archival information necessary for transmitting the historical structure to future generations was compiled; architectural survey (rölöve), restitution, and restoration proposal projects were developed, and conservation-repair methods were identified. General information regarding the current preservation status of the traditional residence was provided. Measurements of the building were taken using a laser scanning device, and the architectural survey was drawn up with photographic documentation. Material analysis and damage assessment sheets were prepared to document the building's current state. Based on historical research, oral testimonies from previous users, and traces observed on-site, the original condition of the house was determined, and a restitution project was prepared. In the restoration project, the necessary interventions for the preservation and contemporary use of the building were identified. It was proposed that the cultural heritage building continue to be used as a residence. Through this study, it is aimed to ensure sustainable conservation by maintaining and preserving cultural heritage for future generations. UNSAL, VELID/0000-0003-1415-0563Although the antiallergic properties of compounds such as CAPE, Melatonin, Curcumin, and Vitamin C have been poorly discussed by experimental studies, the antiallergic properties of these famous molecules have never been discussed with calculations. The histamine-1 receptor (H1R) belongs to the family of rhodopsin-like G-protein-coupled receptors expressed in cells that mediate allergies and other pathophysiological diseases. In this study, pharmacological activities of FDA-approved second generation H1 antihistamines (Levocetirizine, desloratadine and fexofenadine) and molecules such as CAPE, Melatonin, Curcumin, Vitamin C, ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, Toxicity) profiles, density functional theory (DFT), molecular docking, biological targets and activities were compared by calculating. Since drug development is an extremely risky, costly and time-consuming process, the data obtained in this study will facilitate and guide future studies. It will also enable researchers to focus on the most promising compounds, providing an effective design strategy. Their pharmacological activity was carried out using computer-based computational techniques including DFT, molecular docking, ADMET analysis, biological targeting, and activity methods. The best binding sites of Desloratadine, Levocetirizine, Fexofenadine, CAPE, Quercetin, Melatonin, curcumin, Vitamin C ligands to Desmoglein 1, Human Histamine H1 receptor, IgE and IL13 protons were determined by molecular docking method and binding energy and interaction states were analyzed. Fexofenadine and Quercetin ligand showed the most effective binding affinity. Melatonin had the best Caco-2 permeability PPB values of Quercetin, CAPE and Curcumin were at optimal levels. On the OATP1B1 and OATP1B3 of curcumin and CAPE, Quercetin was found to have strong inhibition effects on BCRP. Melatonin and CAPE were found to have the highest inhibition values on CYP1A2, while CAPE had the highest inhibition values on CYP2C19 and CYP2C9. Vitamin C and Quercetin were found to be safer in terms of cardiac toxicity and mutagenic risks, while Desloratadine and Levocetirizine carried high risks of neurotoxicity and hematotoxicity, while CAPE was noted for its high enzyme inhibitory activities and low toxicity profiles, while the hERG blockade, DILI, and cytotoxicity values of other compounds pointed to various safety concerns. This study demonstrated the potential of machine learning methods in understanding and discovering H1 receptor blockers. The results obtained provide important clues in the development of important strategies in the clinical use of H1 receptor blockers. In the light of these data, CAPE and Quercetin are remarkable molecules

Anahtar Kelimeler: Gösterişçi tüketim, Yemek, Kimlik, MekânConspicuous consumption, which is one of the consumption styles emerging in today's consumer society, is a consumer's consumption activities aimed at imitating the consumption patterns of the upper class by departing from the consumption patterns of his/her social class. Consumers with ostentatious consumption behavior believe that various symbols enable them to approach an upper class that will make them look wealthier and more distinguished. One of the symbols that make them look upper class and elite is eating and drinking activities. Food is not only a physical necessity to sustain one's life, but also determines the identity construction process of the consumer with the social and cultural meanings it contains. Food makes the consumer 'who' he/she is. In the socialization process of an individual, food gives symbolic meanings in defining his/her identity. With his/her food preferences and the places where he/she eats, the individual introduces his/her identity to those around him/her. Eating at a luxury restaurant in an upscale neighborhood does not have the same meaning as eating at a street vendor. In this study, the concepts of ostentatious consumption and food are tried to be explained by associating them. The research was conducted on the basis of Diyarbakır province with a phenomenological approach and face-to-face in-depth interview technique. In this context, 30 people of different ages, professions and genders who go to different cafes and restaurants were interviewed. As a result, both the food you eat and the food places you visit make the class and identity of the individual visible. Because food is one of the areas where ostentatious consumption is clearly displayed. Individuals prefer the places where high-status dishes that will be suitable for the social status and prestige they want to have are served; they construct ostentatious consumption through food.
