Adin, Hamit/0000-0003-2455-967X; Adin, Mehmet Sukru/0000-0002-2307-9669In this research, silver nanopowder (at rates of 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2%) was added to 925-carat silver-copper alloy used in manufacturing silver jewellery to increase its durability and to observe its mechanical properties occurred. In this context, different mechanical tests (tensile, bending and hardness) were performed on exclusively produced silver-copper alloys. Moreover, mechanical simulation tests were conducted via ANSYS software using the data obtained from the experimental results. In the tensile tests, it was observed that the use of nanopowder at the rates of 0.5% and 1% positively affected the tensile strength and strain values, while when the nanopowder rate exceeded 1%, both parameters were negatively affected. According to tensile test results, the ductility of the alloy material decreases as the rates of nanopowder addition rise. In the bending tests, it was observed that the addition of 1% nanopowder increased the bending strength significantly; however, other addition rates had a negative effect. Hardness measurements showed that the 1% nanopowder ratio had a much higher effect (in terms of increasing the hardness value) on the hardness value than 0.5%, 1.5% and 2% nanopowder ratios. In order to verify the numerical analysis model, the results of both experimental and numerical analyses were compared. The success of numerical modelling was found to be similar to 96% in terms of both tensile strength and displacement. Many methods are used in the jewellery industry, especially in silver jewellery. To easily shape the material to be used in filigree, repousse, and tattoo techniques, the material must be somewhat soft and pliable. Therefore, if production is carried out using these techniques, it is not advisable to add large amounts of nanopowder to the alloy. Furthermore, adding quite low amounts (0.1%, 0.5% etc.) of nanopowder to the silver-copper alloy will provide efficient results in shaping-based production techniques

Evsen, Ali/0000-0002-3780-7137Background: This study aims to investigate the relationship between ABO blood groups and the severity of peripheral artery disease (PAD) lesions, the coexistence of coronary artery disease (CAD) with PAD, and to identify which blood groups may be more predisposed to these conditions. Methods: This study, which has a single-center and retrospective design, includes 305 patients diagnosed with peripheral artery disease (PAD) between 2015 and 2021. The patients were selected from those with at least 50% stenosis detected by computed tomography (CT) angiography. The severity of PAD lesions was evaluated according to the TransAtlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC-II) classification, and the presence of CAD was determined by simultaneous conventional coronary angiography. Demographic data, comorbidities, and laboratory results were collected, and statistical analyses were performed using chi-square tests, logistic regression, and t-tests. All of these patients were divided into 2 groups based on their ABO blood types: O and non-O blood groups. Results: This study demonstrates a significant relationship between blood group classification and both the severity of PAD and the prevalence of CAD. Patients with non-O blood groups exhibited a higher likelihood of having severe PAD lesions (TASC-C and TASC-D) compared to those with O blood groups, who more frequently had milder lesions (TASC-A and TASC-B) (P Conclusion: Our study reveals a significant association between ABO blood groups and both the severity of PAD and the association of CAD, and shows that non-O blood groups are linked to more severe forms of these conditions. These findings highlight the potential role of ABO blood groups in cardiovascular risk stratification, suggesting a need for further research to confirm these associations and understand their clinical implications

Improving Accuracy Through Preprocessing and Data Augmentation Techniques with a Deep Learning-Based Approach for Arrhythmia Detection

    No full text
Arrhythmia detection plays a critical role in the early diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we propose a deep learning-based model for arrhythmia classification using advanced preprocessing and data augmentation techniques. The proposed model is evaluated on the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Dataset and the PTB Diagnostic ECG Dataset and achieves 98% and 95% accuracy rates, respectively. These results demonstrate the strong ability of the model to classify complex heartbeat patterns, achieving higher accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and F1 score compared to existing methods. The model uses a convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture trained on pre-processed ECG signals with data segmented into individual heartbeats. Data augmentation techniques are applied to reduce data imbalances and improve the generalization ability of the model. Experimental results highlight that the model provides a significant increase in accuracy rates over traditional methods. The results of this study highlight the potential of deep learning architectures in biomedical signal analysis, especially for real-time arrhythmia detection. This approach offers promising potential for clinical applications by enabling higher diagnostic accuracy and timely intervention in cardiovascular healthcare. © This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license

Butun, Ahmet/0000-0002-6856-9389Introduction The paediatric emergency department (PED) represents a vital entry point into the healthcare system, particularly for children experiencing acute health issues. However, despite playing a pivotal role in the paediatric care process, the experiences and needs of parents accompanying their children during these visits are often overlooked. Understanding these needs is essential for improving the quality of care provided in PEDs. This study aimed to identify the needs of parents of children admitted to the PED and examine how these needs vary according to demographic and experiential factors, including satisfaction with care. Methods This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study. This study was conducted in the PED of a 700-bed tertiary public hospital in southeastern Turkey. The study population consisted of 406 parents of children admitted to the PED. Data were collected between October 7, 2024, and November 15, 2024, using structured questionnaires, including: (1) a socio-demographic form and, (2) the Critical Care Family Needs Inventory - Emergency Department. Data analyses were conducted using SPSS 22.0 with significance set at p < 0.05. Results Parents rated "family member participation in care" significantly higher than other needs (mean difference = 0.11-0.21, all p < 0.05). This suggests that PED staff should prioritise: (1) involving parents in care decisions, (2) providing real-time updates, and (3) creating opportunities for hands-on participation when clinically appropriate. 'Communication with family members' showed significantly higher mean scores (2.89 +/- 0.75) than both 'comfort' (2.79 +/- 0.78; p = 0.03) and 'supporting family members' (2.80 +/- 0.80; p = 0.02), with small but clinically meaningful effect sizes (Cohen's d = 0.31 and 0.29 respectively). This study revealed that 64% of parents were satisfied with the healthcare staff. In addition, 65.3% of parents were satisfied with the communication of the healthcare staff. Moreover, the rate of satisfaction with the information provided by the healthcare staff was 61.8%. The total scores on the Critical Care Family Needs Inventory - Emergency Department were significantly higher among parents who reported being satisfied with the healthcare staff, communication, and information provision (p < 0.001). Conclusion This study suggested that addressing parental needs for family participation in care and communication may enhance parents' experiences in paediatric emergency settings. However, further research is needed to evaluate specific interventions. Clear communication is a fundamental need for families, influencing satisfaction, understanding, and involvement in care

    No full text
This study deals with the architectural features, typological diversity and sustainability of the historical Syriac churches in the rural areas of Mardin province in southeastern Turkey. Mardin countryside, which bears the traces of different civilisations starting from the pre-Christian period, is of great importance especially for the architectural and cultural heritage of the Syriac Orthodox community. Within the scope of the research, 61 churches and monasteries, most of which were built between the 4th and 9th centuries, were examined in detail, preserving their original structural features and survey drawings of these buildings were created. In this context, a typological classification of the churches and monasteries (monastery churches) in rural Mardin was conducted, identifying three main plan types: single nave village churches oriented along the east-west axis, multi-nave churches and monastery-type churches oriented along the north-south axis. Important architectural elements of these buildings, such as Kduskudshin, doors, windows and bell towers, were analysed in detail and their impact on the original character of the buildings was studied. The results of the study indicate that the preservation of Syriac religious buildings in rural Mardin is crucial not only for the conservation of these buildings but also for ensuring the continuity of the multi-layered cultural heritage of the region. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

    No full text
This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between uric acid level and urıc acide/albumin ratio (UAR) and stent thrombosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). This single-center retrospective cohort study included 142 patients who underwent interventional treatment with stent implantation for ACS. The patients were divided into two groups: those who developed stent thrombosis within one year (n=67) and those who did not (n=75). Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were collected from the hospital records. The uric acid/albumin ratio was calculated. Stent thrombosis is significantly associated with diabetes and hyperlipidemia.(respectively p=0,001, p=0,002) Uric acid levels were significantly higher and UAR was significantly lower in the stent thrombosis group. (respectively p= 0,001, p=0,001) The development of no reflow and post-dilatation was more frequent in the stent thrombosis group. ROC analysis revealed that a uric acid cut-off value of 5.55 had a sensitivity of 59.7% and a specificity of 64% for predicting stent thrombosis. The relationship between uric acid levels, UAR, and stent thrombosis likely involves complex processes including inflammation and oxidative stress. Understanding these relationships may contribute to the development of targeted interventions to reduce the risk of stent thrombosis and improve the outcomes of ACS patients undergoing stent implantation. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
