Validity and Reliability of a New Method To Measure Cervical Proprioception
Kaya Mutlu, Ebru/0000-0002-8595-5513Objective An accurate and reliable measurement of proprioception is important in the evaluation of the cervical. The aim of this study is to investigate the validity and reliability of a new method using Horizontal Plane Target Platform (HPTP) to assess Head Repositioning Accuracy (HRA) for Cervical Proprioception (CP). Methods HRA values of 86 healthy volunteers (21.01 +/- 2.16 yrs.) were measured through AOS PropPoint laser apparatus device on HPTP, Frontal Plane Target Platform (FPTP), and also CROM device to assess test-retest reliability and validity. Results The test-retest measurements of HPTP reliability was (ICC (left) =0.69, ICC (right) =0.74; SEM (left) =0.28, SEM (right=) 0.36; MDC (left) =1.85, MDC (right) =2.02 95%CI) were moderate for both side. Correlation with the CROM device results was moderate for both side (r=0.75 for left size, r=0.83 for right side), and the absolute values demonstrate concordance between results using the Bland-Altman method. Conclusions HRA measurements performed with a laser apparatus on HPTP which we developed can be used as an alternative method in CP evaluation.Science Citation Index Expande
Obesity Risk Factors in Turkish Preschool Children: a Cross-Sectional Study
OZKAYA, Volkan/0000-0001-7576-2083Purpose: The present study aims to identify the potential risk factors - pre and post-pregnancy, children's, parental, and environmental factors - concerning obesity in Turkish preschool children.Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted with 538 children aged 3-5 and their mothers in 25 private and public kindergartens using a face-to-face survey. Demographic, anthropometric, nutrition, sleep, and physical activity information during pregnancy, infancy, and preschool periods were evaluated. Two-day food records and anthropometric measurements of the children were collected. Results: The prevalence of overweight and obesity in preschool children was found to be 27.0%. Among the 28 potential risk factors examined, pre-pregnancy obesity (odds ratios (OR):1.108, confidence interval (CI): 1.042-1.179), post-pregnancy obesity (OR:4.350, CI: 2.053-9.217), caffeine intake >200 mg/day during pregnancy (OR:1.588, CI:1.031-2.446), father with obesity (OR: 1.089, CI: 1.027-1.155), enrolling a private rather than a public kindergarten (OR: 2.093, CI:1.298-3.376), fast eating (OR:3.355, CI: 1.175-9.583 min), short lunch duration (OR:0.966, CI:0.934-0.998), daily sleep of 2 hours/day (OR:1.560, CI:1.012-2.405) were found to be significantly correlated with obesity in preschool children. Conclusion: Parental obesity, caffeine intake during pregnancy, eating speed, daily sleep, and screen time were determined as obesity risk factors in Turkish preschool children. Identifying maternal and child risk factors in early childhood, regulating lifestyle and obesogenic environment can be protective against obesity.Emerging Sources Citation Inde
The Dramatic Increase in Anti-Vaccine Discourses During the Covid-19 Pandemic: a Social Network Analysis of Twitter
HENGIRMEN, ENGIN/0000-0001-9330-3251; DURMAZ, Nihal/0000-0002-3079-1769Background/Aim The first case of COVID-19 in Turkey was officially recorded on March 11, 2020. Social media use increased worldwide, as well as in Turkey, during the pandemic, and conspiracy theories/fake news about medical complications of vaccines spread throughout the world. The aim of this study was to identify community interactions related to vaccines and to identify key influences/influencers before and after the pandemic using social network data from Twitter. Materials and methods Two datasets, including tweets about vaccinations before and after COVID-19 in Turkey, were collected. Social networks were created based on interactions (mentions) between Twitter users. Users and their influence were scored based on social network analysis and parameters that included in-degree and betweenness centrality. Results In the pre-COVID-19 network, media figures and authors who had anti-vaccine views were the most influential users. In the post-COVID-19 network, the Turkish minister of health, the was the most influential figure. The vaccine network was observed to be growing rapidly after COVID-19, and the physicians and authors who had opinions about mandatory vaccinations received a great deal of reaction. One-way communication between influencers and other users in the network was determined. Conclusions This study shows the effectiveness and usefulness of large social media data for understanding public opinion on public health and vaccination in Turkey. The current study was completed before the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccine in Turkey. We anticipated that social network analysis would help reduce the "infodemic" before administering the vaccine and would also help public health workers act more proactively in this regard.Science Citation Index Expanded - Social Science Citation Inde
Design and Implementation of a Low Cost and Portable Tactile Stimulator Br
When central nervous system has a problem, somatic area I and II respond to stimulation differently. Therefore, it is possible to identify some of the central nervous diseases when somatosensory on the fingertip is stimulated and responses are recorded and analyzed. We designed a system to stimulate the mechanoreceptors on fingertips. It is composed of a mechanical system for fingertip stimulation, an embedded controller, a control computer, and a software to control overall operation. During test, mechanoreceptors are stimulated according to the test protocols. Individuals' answers are recorded to be evaluated by the developed software. In this study, several design approaches for embedded controller were also examined and an FPGA based controller with the same functionality but higher performance was implemented. A test procedure was performed on 51 individuals at the department of pediatric psychiatry in a hospital, to investigate whether the sex has an effect on attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder.Science Citation Index Expande

Exploring Effects of the Hep (homeostasis-Enrichment Approach as a Comprehensive Therapy Intervention for an Infant With Cerebral Palsy: a Case Report
Balikci, Aymen/0000-0002-7552-8235Cerebral palsy (CP) is a common non-progressive neurodevelopmental disorder which causes developmental disabilities in children. Varied interventions for CP exist to address medical and physical needs but with limited effectiveness evidence. Environmental enrichment (EE) is an animal model intervention for many neurodevelopmental disorders, including CP, with considerable positive effects. This case report defines the Homeostasis-Enrichment-Plasticity (HEP) approach, which is based upon principles of EE and ecological theories of development and describes its use to promote the developmental and functional skills of an infant with CP. Parent interviews and assessment data were completed before and after intervention. For the interested parameters data was gathered by developmental history, systematic observation of behaviors in the clinical setting and at home, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Infant-Toddler Symptom Checklist, the Sensory Profle Infant/Toddler, Peabody Developmental Motor Scales-2, Gross Motor Function Measurement-88 (GMFM-88), the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), and Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI). The HEP approach intervention was implemented one time per week for 12 months. Following the HEP approach intervention, self-regulation and sensory processing scores improved. GMFM-88 total score improved from 45/264 to 123/264. The Peabody found all gross motor (54-110), fine motor (65-117), and total motor quotient (119-227) scores improved after intervention. Post-intervention observations showed obvious gross motor progress with movement from GMFCS Level IV to Level I. Performance on the Functional Skills Scales and Caregiver Assistance Scales of PEDI also demonstrated notable improvements. BAI scores revealed low anxiety scores for both the mother (13/63 points) and father (14/63) before intervention. These scores did not change after intervention. A definition and detailed description of the HEP approach intervention is presented here for the first time. The case report demonstrated preliminary evidence for the effectiveness of the HEP approach on self-regulation, sensory processing, motor development, functional skills, and caregiver assistance with an infant with CP. Additional studies are needed to validate the findings.Emerging Sources Citation Inde

Aims: We aimed to cross-sectionally determine the frequency of antibiotics use, type of antibiotics prescribed, and the factors influencing antibiotics use in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 confirmed by polymerase chain reaction. Study Design: The study was a national, multicenter, retrospective. and single-day point prevalence study. Methods: This was a national, multicenter, retrospective, and single-day point-prevalence study, conducted in the 24-h period between 00:00 and 24:00 on November 18, 2020, during the start of the second COVID-19 peak in Turkey. Results: A total of 1500 patients hospitalized with a diagnosis of COVID-19 were included in the study. The mean age +/- standard deviation of the patients was 65.0 +/- 15.5, and 56.2% (n = 843) of these patients were men. Of these hospitalized patients, 11.9% (n = 178) were undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation or ECMO. It was observed that 1118 (74.5%) patients were receiving antibiotics, of which 416 (372%) were prescribed a combination of antibiotics. In total, 71.2% of the patients had neither a clinical diagnosis nor microbiological evidence for prescribing antibiotics. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, hospitalization in a state hospital (p 10 ULT coefficient (p < 0.001), lymphocyte count < 800 (p = 0.007), and clinical diagnosis and/or confirmation by culture (p <0.001) were found to be independent factors associated with increased antibiotic use. Conclusion: The necessity of empirical antibiotics use in patients with COVID-19 should be reconsidered according to their clinical, imaging, and laboratory findings.Science Citation Index Expande
