A total of 12 semi-structured interviews with adolescents between the ages of 12 to 18 who were attending an outpatient psychiatric clinic for children and adolescents and 12 interviews with parents were conducted between October 2021 and January 2022 in Manisa, Turkey. Colaizzi's phenomenological interpretation method was used for the analysis of the participants' statements. Our study highlights the main positive effects of psychotropic medication and barriers to medication intake and adherence. Positive effects included symptom management and health improvement. Barriers varied from those directly linked to medication effects (e.g., negative side effects or lack of perceived effect) to personal barriers (e.g., forgetting to take medication or feelings of not being oneself due to medication intake) and societal barriers. In general, the barriers were reflected in concerns related to long-term consequences, such as medication dependence, and in concerns about diminished life prospects. Possible recommendations to improve the use of and adherence to psychotropic medication among adolescents include educating adolescents and parents not only about treatment options but also about mental disorders.Scientific and Technological Research Council of TurkeyThe authors did not receive any financial support in conducting this study. Yoldas Ilktac, Havvanur/0000-0002-7433-6370Background: Bread is one of the most consumed foods by humankind throughout history. It is important to evaluate the factors affecting the food preferences of individuals and to examine the effect of frequently consumed food on anthropometric measurements and daily energy and macronutrient intake in order to improve public health and develop nutrition policies of society. Objective: The aim of the current study was two-fold: (1) to determine the factors affecting the bread type preferences of individuals (2) to compare anthropometric measurements and macronutrient differences according to bread type preferences. Methods: The study was conducted cross-sectional from January to October 2018 with randomly selected 1554 volunteer individuals aged between 18-65 years in Istanbul Province of Turkey. The data of the study were collected through a questionnaire form applied by the face-to-face interview method. Demographic information, anthropometric measurements, the most consumed bread types, and dietary records were examined in the questionnaire form. Results: It was determined that the preference for white bread was high (%66.3). White bread and whole-grain bread were consumed 159.4 & PLUSMN;94 g/day and 131.2 & PLUSMN;89.2 g/day, respectively. BMI and waist circumference were lower, while the difference was not significant. It was determined that the group who preferred whole-grain bread had fewer carbohydrates, higher fiber, higher protein, higher fat, higher saturated fat, and higher cholesterol intakes in their daily diets. Women, having high education status and old-age popularity increased the preference of whole-grain bread 1.73, 3.39, and 1.03 times compared to the preference of white bread (p < 0.001).Conclusion: It has been determined that white bread is preferred more in society. Bread type preference was not associated with anthropometric measurements. It has been determined that the distribution of daily macronutrients of individuals who prefer whole-grain bread is more unbalanced. It was found that gender, educational status, and age were the factors affecting the preference of bread type.Science Citation Index Expanded - Social Science Citation Inde

A New Servicizing Business Model of Transportation: Comparing the New and Existing Alternatives Via Neutrosophic Analytic Hierarchy Process

    No full text
The new normal of the world has been shaped by the COVID-19 outbreak by avoiding public transportation in order to prevent the spread of the disease. Due to the high financial burden of purchasing a car, new business models have been developed in order to make possible of utilizing vehicles to meet the transportation needs in pay-per-use base concept called “servicizing” or “servicization” which is based on presenting a product as a service, and selling the functionality of that product instead of the product itself. In order to meet the increasing demand for individual vehicle use, the existing car rental service providers have provided a new mobile application controlled business model which makes the rental process easier. The aim of this study is to evaluate the customers’ preferences of purchasing, renting through an agency, or mobile application supported new pay-as-you-go business model use, in order to determine which criterion is prominent in the decision-making process, and to identify the weights of these criteria. Due to the uncertain and indeterminate attitudes of the customers in decision making, the data were collected as neutrosophic data sets and analyzed with a novel neutrosophic Analytic Hierarchy Process (nAHP) approach. The study provides implications both theoretically and practically in terms of revealing new servicization possibilities and analyzing real user judgments © 2022, Neutrosophic Sets and Systems. All Rights Reserved

Kolgazi, Meltem/0000-0003-4820-1904; Ercan, Feriha/0000-0003-2339-5669; Sener, Goksel/0000-0001-7444-6193Obesity and male infertility are problems that affect population. Exercise is a nonpharmacological way to reduce the negative health effects of obesity. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of exercise on hormone levels, blood-testis barrier, and inflammatory and oxidative biomarkers in rats that became obese due to a high-fat diet (HFD). Male rats received a standard diet (STD group) or a HFD (HFD group) for 18 weeks. During the final 6 weeks of the experiment, swimming exercises (1 h/5 days/week) were given to half of these animals (STD + EXC and HFD + EXC groups). Finally, blood and testicular tissues were analysed by biochemical and histological methods. Body weight, leptin, malondialdehyde, interleukin-6, TNF-alpha and myeloperoxidase levels, apoptotic cells and DNA fragmentation were increased, and testis weight, insulin, FSH, LH, testosterone, glutathione and superoxide dysmutase levels, proliferative cells, ZO-1, occludin, and gap junction protein Cx43 immunoreactivity were decreased in the HFD group. All these hormonal, morphological, oxidative and inflammatory biomarkers were enhanced in the HFD + EXC group. It is thought that exercise protected testicular cytotoxicity by regulating hormonal and oxidant/antioxidant balances and testicular function, inhibiting inflammation and apoptosis, as well as preserving blood-testis barrier.Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University Scientific Research Project Committee [2016/05/01]; Marmara University Scientific Research Project Committee [SAG-CDRP-131016-0443]; Scientific and Technological Research Counsil of TurkeyTUBITAK [216S280]Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University Scientific Research Project Committee, Grant/Award Number: 2016/05/01; Marmara University Scientific Research Project Committee, Grant/Award Number: SAG-CDRP-131016-0443; Scientific and Technological Research Counsil of TurkeyTUBITAK, Grant/Award Number: 216S280Science Citation Index Expande

Çocuk ve Ergen Psikiyatrisinde Elektrokonvulsif Tedavi

    Get PDF

Material and Methods: The study was carried with 185 students at a foundation university in Istanbul during the dates of November-December 2019. The data were acquired online via Student Information Form, Type 2 Diabetes Questionnaire (FINDRISK) and Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale. Results: The mean age of the students in the study was 19.79 +/- 2.47 years, 53.5 % (n=99) were male, 29.7 % (n=55 previously graduated from another university, 62.1 % (n=115) were students and it was determined that 50.3 % (n=93) had diabetic relatives. It was observed when the diabetes risk status was examined for all participants that they are in the low risk group due to a FINDRISK total score of <7. Conclusion: The study results emphasize the importance of determining the risk for university students to be diabetic in the next decade, putting forth the individuals with high risk and moving onto the next stage for diagnosis. In addition, it has been determined that the level of knowledge of students may have a positive impact on their healthy lifestyle behaviors.Emerging Sources Citation Inde

Türkiye’de Ekc Hipotezinin Varlığına Dair Araştırma: Çoklu Doğrusal Bağıntı Durumunda Esneklikleri Kullanan Bir Yaklaşım

This paper searches for the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis for Turkey in the period of 1990–2015. The multicollinearity problem arising from the inclusion of both the GDP itself and its quadratic form together in the model presented by the Kuznets Curve is taken into account in this research. In order to overcome the multicollinearity problem, the validity of the EKC hypothesis has been decided through the interpretation of the long-and short-term elasticity coefficients of the Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) model. Economic Complexity Index (ECI) and Environmental Policy Stringency (EPS) index, which are rarely used in the literature, have been added to the EKC model as control variables. The validity of the EKC hypothesis for Turkey is not supported by the results of the empirical analysis since the long–term GDP elasticity is not found negative and also greater than the short–term coefficient. On the other hand, while increasing economic complexity has been found to reduce environmental degradation in the long run, sufficient evidence has not been provided for the importance of the Environmental Policy Stringency (EPS) index in the sample period for Turkey
