Kidney Transplantation: a Possible Solution To Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Patients With End-Stage Kidney Disease

OSA may cause repetitive stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system and elevations in pulmonary artery pressure leading to an elevated risk of cardiac and vascular complications in patients with chronic kidney disease. Furthermore, OSA is associated with progressive worsening of kidney injury and loss of renal function. MethodsIn this systematic review and meta-analysis, we evaluated the effect of renal transplantation on the progression of OSA in patients with end-stage kidney disease. ResultsThe meta-analysis included eight studies with a total of 401 patients. Findings showed that kidney transplantation does not lead to a statistically significant effect on the apnea-hypopnea index (MD 2.6 events/hr, 95% CI -3.2 to 8.3, p = 0.21), total sleep time (MD 14.7 min/night, 95% CI -8.4 to 37.8, p = 0.76), sleep efficiency (MD 2.5%, 95% CI -1.4 to 6.3, p = 0.57), slow wave sleep (MD 0.4% of total sleep time, 95% CI -7.5 to 8.4, p = 0.05), and rapid eye movement sleep (MD 0.6% of total sleep time, 95% CI -2.2 to 3.3, p = 0.98). There was no statistically significant effect of kidney transplantation on OSA in patients with chronic renal disease.Science Citation Index Expande
The Correlational Study of the Vertical Jump Test and Wingate Cycle Test as a Method To Assess Anaerobic Power in Road Cyclists
Road Cycling is an important sport that uses anaerobic and aerobic metabolism and especially sprinter cyclists have higher anaerobic capacity. The assessment of anaerobic power in cyclists often involves the use of the vertical jump and Wingate cycle tests. The lack of research in the field of cycling-specific tests to assess anaerobic performance has led to the improvement of existing research. The objective of this research was to investigate the correlation between the vertical jump test and the Wingate anaerobic cycling tests, both of which are often used to assess anaerobic power in road cyclists. A correlation study was conducted on 15 athletes of the Turkish national road cycling team in the 14-16 age group (15.107 ± 0.717 (SD)). The sample of the study was determined by using the convenient sampling method. On the first day, anthropometric measurements and the vertical jump test were conducted. The Wingate cycle ergometer test, lasting for a duration of 30 seconds, was administered to the participants on the second day. The computer application was used to determine the 30-second peak and average anaerobic power during the test. The results acquired from the study revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between the vertical jump performance and the peak power production measured during the Wingate cycle test (r=0.321, p<0.05). The findings indicate that vertical jump tests may serve as suitable field measurements of anaerobic power for road cyclists, as an alternative to the laboratory-based Wingate anaerobic test. © The Author(s) 2023
Protocol Registration and Reporting of Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses Published in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Journals: a Descriptive Study
OZER, DUYGU/0000-0001-5800-5099; Dikec, Gul/0000-0002-7593-4014Although it is not mandatory for systematic review and meta-analysis studies, protocol registration is essential in the prevention of biases. This study aims to investigate the protocol registration status and reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in psychiatric nursing journals. This descriptive study's data were obtained by scanning the 10 mental health and psychiatric nursing journals in which the studies of psychiatric nurses were most frequently published and by examining the systematic reviews and meta-analyses published between 2012-2022. A total of 177 completed studies have been reviewed. It was determined that 18.6% of the examined systematic reviews and meta-analyses had a protocol registration. Almost all (96.9%) of the registered studies were registered with PROSPERO, and 72.7% were registered prospectively. It was determined that the registration status of the studies changed statistically according to the country where the studies' authors were located. When the published studies were examined, it was determined that approximately one out of every five studies were registered. With the prospective registration of systematic reviews, biases could be prevented, and evidence-based interventions can be made based on the knowledge obtained.Science Citation Index Expanded - Social Science Citation Inde
Nutritional and Obesity Status of Children and Adolescents With Adhd: a Case-Control Study
Koc, Sumeyye/0000-0002-4773-0161Objective: Due to their prone to obesity and unbalanced nutrient intake this study was carried out to evaluate the daily energy and nutrient intake and obesity status of children and adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: The study was conducted on a total of 390 children (169 ADHD and 221 control groups) between the ages of 6-17 years. Body weight and height were measured and height-for-age-z-score (HAZ), weight-for-age-z-score (WAZ) and BMI-z-score (BMIZ) were calculated. 24-hour dietary recalls of the participants were recorded, and energy and nutrients intake were analysed. The ratio of meeting daily energy and nutrients adequacy according to age and gender was calculated. Results: The HAZ values of the children with a mean age of 10 +/- 2 years were within the normal range in most of both groups. The ratio of overweight-obese children was 43.8% in the ADHD group and 39.8% in the control group, respectively. The ratio of energy from fat was high in both groups (ADHD: 39%, control: 41%) (p <0.05). It was found that folic acid and thiamine were sufficient in both groups, pyridoxine was consumed in borderline excess, other vitamins were consumed in excess. All minerals except sodium were sufficient and sodium was consumed more. Folic acid and water consumption were found to be less in children with ADHD (p <0.05). Conclusion: Overweight and obese rates are common among children and adolescents with ADHD, and their eating habits are similar to those of their healthy peers.Emerging Sources Citation Inde
Nonviolent Communication in Lifelong Education
Dogan, Ece/0000-0002-6759-9383In today's world, the increase of othering and xenophobia with acts of violence, along with the changes that consume resources due to climate changes such as wars, irregular migration movements, famine and thirst, are an important necessity for understanding nonviolent communication and its application in the field of lifelong education. This requirement brought the problem of "adult education" to the agenda and accelerated the studies on the lifelong learning approach. In addition, key messages developed by UNESCO and the European Commission defined the characteristics that the lifelong learning approach should have. Within the scope of the study, the concept of nonviolent communication explained, and the "Make a Gesture Your Opponent" campaign, which includes nonviolent communication training for Turkey Football Federation first league teams, examined. Within the scope of the study, the "Make a Gesture to Your Opponent" campaign was determined as a case study. Accordingly, the official website of the campaign was examined. As a result of the analysis carried out in line with the key messages, the nonviolent communication approach that the "Make a Gesture Your Opponent" project wanted to instill in its participants shows how important education is in all areas of life.Emerging Sources Citation Inde
Event Graphs: Syntax, Semantics, and Implementation
This tutorial aims to introduce Event Graphs (EGs), invented 40 years ago by Lee Schruben to allow eventbased modeling of discrete dynamic systems. Their simplicity and naturalness in causality modelling and simulation modelling made EGs popular in research and practice. In a simulation, an event causes state changes in a system as well as other events to happen in the future. EGs provide a parsimonious diagram representation for the Event Scheduling paradigm of Discrete Event Simulation. We first introduce their visual syntax and informal semantics, and then present a recent extension by adding objects to EGs. Our tutorial also includes an introduction to the formal semantics of EGs and a Python implementation for executing EGs. © 2023 IEEE.King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, KFUP
Effects of Carbohydrate and Caffeine-Based Energy Gel Ingestion on Blood Glucose, Blood Lactate and Performance During Prolonged Cycling
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of carbohydrate and caffeine-based energy gels on blood glucose, blood lactate, heart rate, rating of perceived exertion (RPE), power output, cadence during prolonged cycling exercise. This research was an experimental study in which 15 competitor cyclists were tested in 3 different conditions. 3 experimental trials in a randomized order, no gel intake and water only use (T1), gel intake every 30 minutes (T2), 1 gel intake 15 minutes before exercise, and gel intake every 45 minutes after first gel intake and 1 carbohydrate + caffeine gel at 75 min (T3). Water use was released within 3 trials. Each exercise trial included 2 hours of cycling followed by 15 min TT. Measurements were made at the beginning, every 30 min, and at the end of the exercise. This research found that energy gels increased blood glucose levels and time trial (TT) performance compared to trials without consuming something. A more frequent gel intake improved blood glucose levels and TT distance. In the TT, blood lactate concentration increased significantly in T3 compared to T1 (p0.05). Even though cadence, power output, and TT distance in T3 were not statistically significant, the differences that occur are important in terms of cycling. The research also found no correlation between energy gel feedings and water intake (p>0.05). The results were important for cyclists with the positive effect on endurance performance when energy gels are used in long-term cycling exercises. © The Author(s) 2023

Sanatta ve sinemada tür kavramı yıllardır bilinen ve tanınan bir olgudur. Kapitalizm ve tecimsel yaklaşımın hakim olduğu Hollywood’un oluşumuyla birlikte, film türleri oluşmuş ve dünyaya yayılmıştır. Türk sinemasında da tarihinden itibaren tür denemeleri yapılmıştır. Bu türlerden biri de müzikal film türüdür. Müzikal film türü her zaman için popülerliğini koruyan ve izleyici bulan, eğlenceli, müzikli, danslı bir tür olarak bilinmektedir. Türk sinema tarihinde “Tiyatrocular Dönemi” olarak geçen ve Muhsin Ertuğrul’un tek adam olduğu dönemde denenen türlerden biri de müzikal film türüdür. Bu çalışmada, Kurtuluş Savaşı’nın kazanılması ve Cumhuriyet’in ilan edilmesiyle başlayan yılların konu edildiği, bir müzikal film olan “Ateş Üstünde Yürümek” filmi nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak incelenecektir. Desen olarak, betimsel veri analizi, veri toplama araçları olarak, alan yazın ve doküman (film) kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada birincil kaynaklar ve bunlardan yola çıkılarak yayınlanan çalışmaların incelemesi ve görsel doküman incelemesi yoluyla filmdeki görsel ve anlamsal verilerin toplanması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen dokümanlara göre tekli durum çalışması yönteminden yararlanılmıştır
Examination the Relationship Between the Health Literacy of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes and the Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Background: Health literacy and the use of complementary and alternative medicine are two important factors that should be evaluated the management of type 2 diabetes. Objectives: To examine the relationship between the health literacy of patients with type 2 diabetes and the use of complementary and alternative medicine. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out with 1076 patients with type 2 diabetes. The data were collected using a descriptive information form and the Health Literacy Scale. Results: It was found that 61.4% of the patients used complementary and alternative treatments. Patients' total score from the Health Literacy scale was 48.90 +/- 19.92. The use of complementary and alternative therapy increased in the presence of another chronic disease or diabetic neuropathy and decreased with increased age and health literacy (R-2 =050; Model: x(2)= 40.656, p=0.00). Conclusions: It was determined that the health literacy of patients with type 2 diabetes was not enough and that the use of complementary and alternative treatments was high. With the increase in patients' health literacy, the use of complementary and alternative medicine decreased. It is recommended that health professionals evaluate patients' health literacy and use of complementary and alternative therapies and provide counselling to ensure effective diabetes self-management.Science Citation Index Expande
The Effect of Different Body Mass Index Levels on Static and Dynamic Postural Balance Performance in Adults

Material and Methods: The study was conducted in uskudar Diabetes and Obesity Treatment Center between September and October 2021. Participants were divided into 5 groups according to BMI scores: normal-weight, overweight, 1st degree obese, 2nd degree obese, and 3rd degree obese. In addition, participants' static and dynamic balance performance were assessed by the Limits of Stability (LOS) and modified Clinical Test of Sensory Integration of Balance (m-CTSIB) tests. Results: For LOS parameters, there was a significant difference between groups in reaction time scores only for the backward direction (p<0.05). The endpoint and maximum excursion measurements except for the backward and directional control measurements except for the back and right were significantly different between groups, with the worst scores for 3rd degree obese group (p<0.05). For the m-CTSIB test, there was a significant difference between groups in all parameters except the eyes open condition on foam surface (p<0.05). Conclusion: The 3rd degree obese individuals are the most affected subgroup in dynamic balance. We recommended that rehabilitation and fall prevention programs primarily focus on 3rd degree obese individuals.Emerging Sources Citation Inde
