Sns<sub>2</Sub> and Ho-Doped Sns<sub>2</Sub> Thin Films: Synergistic, Dft, Photocatalytic, and Antibacterial Studies
Ribeiro, Renan/0000-0002-4128-8296; Isik, Mehmet/0000-0003-2119-8266This study investigates Ho-doped tin disulfide (Ho-SnS2) thin films prepared via spray coating, focusing on varying Ho doping levels (0 at. %, 2 at. %, and 4 at. %). Structural analysis through XRD and SEM showcased enhanced crystallinity and morphology in Ho-SnS2 films. Raman and XPS studies provided insight into the film's composition and chemical states. The antibacterial properties of the films were investigated using a bacterial growth inhibition assay. The results showed significant antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, highlighting the potential applications of Ho-SnS2 thin films in antibacterial coatings. Ho-SnS2 films exhibited superior photocatalytic activity and antibacterial properties compared to SnS2 films, attributed to efficient charge separation. DFT analysis proposed a mechanism for the antibacterial activity. Examining Shared Leadership Dimensions Through a Social Network Approach: a Case From Tourism Industry
Asbas, Caner/0000-0002-2315-565XBackground : Shared leadership is regarded as a fundamental approach to complexity leadership theory in terms of adaptability and flexibility. It emerges from communication among team members in a complex environment and consists of three dimensions: task coordination, personal support, and information sharing. Purpose: This study investigates shared leadership and its dimensions which are task coordination, personal support, and information sharing using social network analysis. By incorporating social network theory, the social and relational aspects of shared leadership can be revealed and emphasized. Study design/methodology/approach : Social network analysis was used to test the hypotheses on the data collected from the employees of a tourism organization. Findings/conclusions: The findings indicate that the individuals in task coordination, personal support and information sharing networks have a medium or low percentage of degree centrality in the social networks of their units or departments. The social networks of task coordination, personal support and information sharing have a high percentage of degree density when all individuals are treated as a total network and individuals in different departments and units as separate networks. This situation is led by the more balanced distribution of the power among the actors, dense communication between the members and intense network relations in task coordination, personal support and information sharing networks. Limitations/future research: The present study focuses only on internal network relations. As a future body of work, the study could be expanded to include both external and internal network relations to provide a wider understanding of the shared leadership concept. As another future body of work, to reach more generalizable results, this study can be expanded with a meta-analysis that will be performed on the results obtained by applying the survey on other organizations and processing the data collected with social network analysis methods again
The Representation of Magical Doors in Mohsin Hamid's <i>exit West</I>
Mohsin Hamid presents migration as one of the most debatable global themes in his Exit West (2017). The author fictionalises not only migrants' crises of dislocation in the contemporary world but also their escape to safety through magical means in his novel. Exit West mainly depicts the existential struggles and anxieties of the two migrants, Nadia and Saeed, and their toilsome experiences in their journey to the West after they leave their homeland. The two protagonists of the novel trespass physical borders and walls, like heavily guarded frontiers or oceans through magical doors to create themselves a safe space. It is clear from the very beginning of the novel that Nadia and Saeed try hard to survive in an unnamed South Asian country, which is fraught with political chaos, violence and bloodshed. Having been guided by a number of bribed dark agents, the couple flee their country by passing through some magical doors, towards a future marked by uncertainty and unpredictability. Their first Western destination is the Greek island of Mykonos where they settle in a refugee camp, their second destination is London, and the final stop is Marin, San Francisco. Cold War Aviation: American Technology Transfer and the Construction of Turkey's First International Civilian Airport in Yeşilköy, Istanbul, 1944-1953
With the economic and political support of the United States, in July 1947, Turkey signed contracts withthe Westinghouse Electric International Company and J.G. White Engineering Corporation to constructits first international civilian airport, Istanbul'sYe & scedil;ilk & ouml;y Airport. As this article will argue, the buildingof Ye & scedil;ilk & ouml;y (1949-53), through a partnership with two American engineering firms, is essentially anearly Cold War narrative of transnational exchange involving the multidirectional flow of technicalknowledge, expertise and resources between the United States and Turkey; the circulation of geopol-itically significant (and frequently competing) military, civilian and government actors; and thelocal and global implications of these transmissions. Yet the Ye & scedil;ilk & ouml;y construction narrative also illus-trates how post-war technology transfer was a highly political process of constant adaptation, modifi-cation and negotiation. Fraught with unforeseen friction and thorny challenges, Ye & scedil;ilk & ouml;y exemplifiesthe complicated American Cold War strategy of creating and maintaining alliances through engineeringknowledge, personnel and practices, often with unintended consequences. Moreover, as a case study,Ye & scedil;ilk & ouml;y opens a new window into the cautious science diplomacy that occurred along the IronCurtain, while filling a notable historiographic gap with respect to aviation in early Cold War Turkey
Investigations of Λ States With Spin-Parity 3 ± 2
Azizi, Kazem/0000-0003-3741-2167The present study provides spectroscopic investigations of spin-32 A baryons with both positive and negative parities. The analysis mainly focuses on three states, namely 1P, 2P, and 2S, and corresponding masses are calculated using the QCD sum rule method. To implement the method, we apply two types of interpolating currents with octet and singlet quantum numbers and compare the corresponding results with the reported masses of experimentally observed states. From the comparisons, it is extracted that the results of interpolating current with octet quantum numbers are in good agreement with the experimentally measured masses. The masses obtained with this interpolating current are m = 1513.64 +/- 8.76 MeV for 1P state with JP = 3 -, m' = 1687.91 +/- 0.31 MeV for 2P state with JP = 3 - and m = 1882.37 +/- 11.95 MeV for 2S state with JP = 3 + and they are consistent with the experimental masses of A(1520), A(1690), and A(1890), respectively, which confirm their spin-parity quantum numbers. Besides, we calculate the corresponding current coupling constants, which are utilized as inputs in the calculations of different form factors defining the widths of the states under study.Iran National Science Foundation, INSF, (4025036)Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) [4025036]K. Algoritmik Yönetim Kapsamında İşçinin İzlenmesi
Algoritmik yönetim, iş ilişkilerinin dijitalleşmesi ile çalışma yaşamında yeni ortaya çıkan ve çoğunlukla yapay zekaya dayalı bazı uygulamaları ifade etmek için kullanılan bir kavramdır. İşverenin bireysel iş sözleşmesi, toplu iş sözleşmesi, iç yönetmelik ya da yönetim hakkı gibi kaynaklara dayanarak, işçilerin iş görme edimine veya işyerindeki davranışlarına yönelik çalışma koşullarını çeşitli yazılımlar aracılığıyla düzenlemesi, bu kavram ile açıklanır. Algoritmik yönetim, yönetime ilişkin otomatik veya yarı otomatik kararlar alınması ve bunların icrası için, işçiler veya müşterilere ait verilerin toplanması ve algoritmalar aracılığıyla otomatik ya da yarı otomatik olarak işlenmesi anlamına gelmektedir. Bu tür uygulamalar veri işleme yoluyla gerçekleştirildiği için, özellikle işçiye dair çok büyük hacimde veriye ihtiyaç duyulur ve bu veri genellikle izleme yöntemleriyle elde edilir. Bu nedenle algoritmik yönetim kapsamında yapılan izlemenin hukuka uygunluğunun, yazılım sektöründe kullanılan yeni uygulamalara göre ele alınması gereklidir. Bu yöntemlerin hukuka uygunluğu, algoritmik yönetim özelinde iki şarta bağlıdır: (i) izlemeye ilişkin uyulması gereken temel ilkelere uygunluk, yani elverişlilik, gereklilik ve orantılılık, (ii) otomatik karar alma mekanizmalarına yönelik Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Kanunu (KVKK) md.11/1(g) hükmüne uygunluk. Olması gereken hukuk bakımından ise Türk hukuku hâlâ algoritmik yönetim ile alınacak tüm kararların insan müdahalesini veya kontrolünü gerektirmesi bakımından yetersizdir. Using Advanced Machine Learning Techniques To Predict the Sales Volume of Non-Fungible Tokens
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are a type of digital asset based on blockchain that contain unique codes verifying the authenticity and ownership of different assets such as art pieces, music, gaming items, collections, and so on. This phenomenon and its markets have grown significantly since the beginning of 2021. This study, using daily data between November 2017 and November 2022, predicts the volume of NFT sales by utilising Random Forest (RF), GBM, XGBoost, and LightGBM methods from the community machine learning methods. In the predictions, several financial variables, including Gold, Bitcoin/USD, Ethereum/USD, S&P 500 index, Nasdaq 100, Oil/USD, Euro/USD, and CDS data, are treated as independent variables. According to the results, XGBoost is found to be the best prediction method for NFT market volume estimation concerning several statistical criteria, e.g., MAE, MAPE, and RMSE, and the most significant influential feature in determining prices is the Ethereum/USD exchange rate
On the Continuity in <i>q</I> of the Family of the Limit <i>q</I>-durrmeyer Operators
This study deals with the one-parameter family {D-q}(q is an element of[0,1]) of Bernstein-type operators introduced by Gupta and called the limit q-Durrmeyer operators. The continuity of this family with respect to the parameter q is examined in two most important topologies of the operator theory, namely, the strong and uniform operator topologies. It is proved that {D-q}(q is an element of[0,1]) is continuous in the strong operator topology for all q is an element of [0, 1]. When it comes to the uniform operator topology, the continuity is preserved solely at q = 0 and fails at all q is an element of (0, 1]. In addition, a few estimates for the distance between two limit q-Durrmeyer operators have been derived in the operator norm on C[0, 1]
Aviation Cybersecurity: Shielding Against Cyberthreats in the Air
Cybersecurity is a set of applications specialized for information and communication technology systems. Cybersecurity practices are conducted in cyberspace, and should be conducted both under the limitations and with the opportunities of this complex environment. Dynamic, totalistic, and adaptive approaches are required for cybersecurity; solely technical or financial measures would not be enough to ensure cybersecurity. Instead, a more holistic view that considers all aspects of cybersecurity would be more appropriate. In the aviation sector, where technical aspects are dominant and sensitivities are exceptionally high, it can be directly noticed that the associated complexities are heightened even further. This results in a requirement for a more concrete and detailed understanding and approach for cybersecurity in aviation. Exploring Mooc Learners' Behavioural Patterns Considering Age, Gender and Number of Course Enrolments: Insights for Improving Educational Opportunities

The purpose of this study is to better understand the behaviours of MOOC learners and provide some insights for taking actions that benefit larger learner groups. Accordingly, 2,288,559 learners' behaviours on 174 MITx courses were analysed. The results show that MOOCs are more attractive to the elderly, male, and highly educated groups of learners. Learners' performance improves as they register for more courses and improve their skills and experiences on MOOCs. The findings suggest that, in the long run, learners' adaptation to MOOCs will significantly improve the potential benefits of the MOOCs. Hence, MOOCs should continue by better understanding their learners and providing alternative instructional designs by considering different learner groups. MOOC providers' decision -makers may take these findings into account when making operational decisions
