The Association Between miRNA-223 Levels and Pain Severity in Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A Molecular Approach
Karatas, Ozlem/0000-0003-3053-9333Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a chronic syndrome commonly characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue. Current evidence suggests that FMS diagnosis relies on clinical evaluation and patient-reported symptoms. MicroRNAs, which serve as key regulators of gene expression, have been proposed to play a role in the pathogenesis of FMS and other chronic pain syndromes. In this pilot study, miRNA-223-3p expression levels were examined in patients with FMS, and their relationship with pain intensity-assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS)was evaluated. To obtain a broader understanding of the inflammatory response, serum interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) levels were also measured. miRNA-223-3p expression levels were significantly reduced in the FMS group compared with healthy controls (p < 0.05), whereas IL-1 beta levels did not differ significantly between the groups (p = 0.1135). The negative correlation between miRNA-223-3p and VAS scores indicates that lower miRNA levels are associated with increased pain severity. Overall, these results suggest that reduced miRNA-223-3p expression levels may be linked to neuroimmune processes and heightened pain perception in FMS. The findings provide valuable preliminary insights that may guide future studies with larger sample sizes
Relationships Between Authenticity, Resilience, and Defense Mechanisms: Testing Mediating and Moderating Effects
Bu çalışma, 18-45 yaş aralığındaki yetişkin bireylerde otantiklik ile psikolojik dayanıklılık arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemekte ve bu ilişkide savunma biçimlerinin (olgun, nevrotik ve immatür) aracı ve düzenleyici rollerini araştırmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri, çevrim içi anket yoluyla ulaşılan 523 katılımcıdan elde edilmiştir. Veri toplama sürecinde Otantiklik Ölçeği, Kısa Psikolojik Sağlamlık Ölçeği ve Savunma Biçimleri Testi (SBT-40) kullanılmıştır. Yapılan korelasyon analizleri sonucunda, otantiklik ile psikolojik dayanıklılık arasında anlamlı ve pozitif bir ilişki olduğu ortaya konmuştur. Bunun yanı sıra, olgun savunmalar otantiklik ve psikolojik dayanıklılık ile pozitif yönde ilişkili bulunurken; nevrotik ve immatür savunmalarla negatif yönde ilişkiler tespit edilmiştir. Aracılık analizleri, savunma mekanizmalarının bu iki değişken arasındaki ilişkide tam aracılık rolü üstlendiğini göstermiştir. Olgun savunmalar otantiklik ve psikolojik dayanıklılık arasındaki ilişkiyi güçlendirirken; nevrotik ve immatür savunmalar bu ilişkiyi zayıflatmaktadır. Düzenleyicilik analizleri ise, savunma mekanizmalarının bu iki değişken arasındaki ilişkinin hangi koşullarda güçlenip zayıfladığını ortaya koymuştur. Özellikle olgun savunmaların yüksek düzeyde kullanıldığı bireylerde otantiklik psikolojik dayanıklılığı daha fazla desteklerken; nevrotik ve immatür savunmaların yüksek düzeyde kullanımında bu etki anlamlı ölçüde azalmaktadır. Data were collected from 523 participants through online surveys. The Authenticity Scale, Brief Psychological Resilience Scale, and Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ-40) were used in the data collection process. Correlation analyses revealed a significant and positive relationship between authenticity and psychological resilience. Additionally, mature defenses were found to be positively associated with both authenticity and psychological resilience, while negative relationships were identified with neurotic and immature defenses. Mediation analyses showed that defense mechanisms play a full mediating role in the relationship between these two variables. Mature defenses strengthen the relationship between authenticity and psychological resilience, while neurotic and immature defenses weaken this relationship. Moderation analyses revealed under which conditions defense mechanisms strengthen or weaken the relationship between these two variables. Specifically, in individuals who use mature defenses at high levels, authenticity provides greater support for psychological resilience, while this effect significantly decreases with high levels of neurotic and immature defense use. Human-Centered Lighting in the Design of Future Educational Environments: Teacher Experiences
In modern life, individuals spend a significant amount of time interiors. In educational contexts, both students and educators engage in instructional activities within specifically designed indoor environments. Analyzing the physical characteristics of these settings reveals that appropriate and sufficient lighting plays a crucial role in enhancing students' visual, auditory, and practical learning processes. Human-centered lighting design has the potential to improve the health, alertness, productivity, focus, and overall performance of both students and educators. Therefore, evaluating lighting designs in educational environments from a user-oriented perspective and proposing practical recommendations are critical. The purpose of this study is to explore teachers' perceptions of natural and artificial lighting in their classrooms, its effects on the learning environment, and how it can be improved based on user experiences. Adopting a qualitative phenomenological design approach, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with teachers from public and private institutions. The collected data were analyzed using Nvivo software to ensure systematic and detailed content analysis. The findings emphasize the importance of designing future educational spaces in line with human-centered lighting principles, as reflected in the views of participating educators. Furthermore, the study highlights that lighting design is a vital element in educational environments, directly supporting and improving students' learning processes
Measurement of Event Shapes in Minimum-Bias Events from Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 13 TeV
A measurement of event-shape variables is presented, using a data sample produced in a special run with approximately one inelastic proton-proton collision per bunch crossing. The data were collected with the CMS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 64 μb−1. A number of observables related to the overall distribution of charged particles in the collisions are corrected for detector effects and compared with simulations. Inclusive event-shape distributions, as well as differential distributions of event shapes as functions of charged-particle multiplicity, are studied. None of the models investigated are able to satisfactorily describe the data. Moreover, there are significant features common amongst all generator setups studied, particularly showing data being more isotropic than any of the simulations. Sosyal Duygusal Öğrenme Üzerine Geliştirilen Alternatif Programlara Genel Bakış
Bu çalışma, erken çocukluk döneminde sosyal ve duygusal becerilerinin gelişimine yönelik oluşturulan eğitim programlarına karşılaştırmalı genel bir bakış sunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmalar ile etkililiği onaylanmış olan programlar arasından bu araştırma için seçilmiş önleyici programlar; WITS, INSIGHTS Intervention, The Incredible Years, Michigan Model for Health, I Can Problem Solve, Captain McFinn: Explore Kindness, PAX Good Behavior Game, Tuning in to Kids ve Kimochis yer almaktadır. Çalışma, bu programların amaçlarını, niteliklerini, uygulama alanlarını ve sonuçlarını ele alarak, sosyal-duygusal öğrenme alanındaki mevcut durumu daha iyi anlamaya katkıda bulunmayı hedeflemektedir. Araştırma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden doküman analizi modelinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemi, olasılığa dayalı olmayan amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin analizinde doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bulgularda 9 önleyici program ayrıntılı olarak ele alınmıştır. Programlar, tartışma bölümünde, her program için hedef yaş grubu, eğitim süresi, eğitim kiti, sosyal-duygusal öğrenme beceri, programların amaçları, eğitmen eğitimleri, aile katılımları, toplum katılımı açılarından incelenmiştir. Okul öncesi dönem çocuklarının sosyal duygusal öğrenme becerilerini geliştirmek için eğitimcilerin, araştırmacıların ve ebeveynlerin sosyal duygusal öğrenme programları kullanmalarının faydalı olacağı düşünülmektedir
Pediatrik Yaş Grubunda Demir ve Çinko Eksiklikleri ile Trombositoz Arasındaki İlişkinin Ortaya Konması
Amaç: Reaktif trombositoz, artmış megakaryosit aktivitesi veya azalmış trombosit yıkımı sonucu gelişebilir. Demir eksikliği, artmış trombosit üretimi ile sıkça ilişkilendirilirken, çinko eksikliğinin trombosit parametreleri üzerindeki etkisi belirsizdir. Bu çalışmada çocuklarda demir ve çinko eksikliklerinin trombosit indeksleri üzerindeki etkileri retrospektif olarak değerlendirildi. Gereç ve Yöntemler: 36 kız, 37 erkek olmak üzere toplam 73 pediatrik hastada ferritin ve çinko düzeyleri ile ilişkili trombosit sayısı ve ortalama trombosit hacmi (MPV) incelendi. Hastalar şu şekilde gruplandırıldı: Grup 1—normal ferritin ve çinko; Grup 2—düşük ferritin, normal çinko; Grup 3—normal ferritin, düşük çinko; Grup 4—düşük ferritin ve çinko İstatistiksel analizlerde, verilerin normal dağılımını değerlendirmek için Shapiro-Wilk ve Kolmogorov-Smirnov testlerini, ardından gruplar arası karşılaştırmalar için tek yönlü ANOVA ve çoklu karşılaştırmalar için Bonferroni düzeltmeli post-hoc pairwise t-testleri ve MPV ile trombosit sayısı ilişkisi için Pearson korelasyon analizi kullanıldı. Bulgular: Trombosit sayısı ve MPV tüm gruplar arasında benzer bulundu ve çinko eksikliğinin doğrudan trombositoza etkisi saptanmadı. Çinko eksikliği olan hastalarda ferritin düzeyleri anlamlı olarak daha düşüktü (p < 0,05). MPV ile trombosit sayısı arasında orta düzeyde negatif korelasyon gözlendi (r = -0,548), MPV stratifikasyonu ile bu ilişki güçlendi (r = -0,841). Sonuçlar: Çinko eksikliği bu çalışmada trombosit sayısında artışla ilişkili bulunmadı. Ancak ferritin düşüklüğü ile ilişkisi ve MPV-trombosit sayısı korelasyonu, iz elementlerin hematopoez üzerinde potansiyel etkilerini göstermektedir. Klinik olarak, çocuklarda trombosit parametrelerini değerlendirirken beslenme durumu göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır ve bu etkileşimlerin netleştirilmesi için ileri araştırmalara ihtiyaç vardır

The data were recorded by the CMS experiment and correspond to integrated luminosities of 186 and 0.607 nb(-1) for the pPb and PbPb systems, respectively. A four-particle cumulant analysis is performed using subevents separated in pseudorapidity to effectively suppress noncollective effects. At high pT (p(T) > 8 GeV), significant positive v(2) values that are similar between pPb and PbPb collisions at comparable charged particle multiplicities are observed. The Association Between Monocyte/HDL-C Ratio and Heart Failure
The monocyte/HDL-cholesterol ratio (MHR) was shown to be a marker of inflammation. This study investigated the utilization of this ratio as a measure of severity for heart failure which is a condition associated with inflammation. The MHR was calculated for 323 ambulatory patients with chronic heart failure and compared to other variables associated with the severity of the condition. Additionally, the impact of MHR on the Seattle Heart Failure Model (SHFM) score was investigated. MHR correlated positively with C-reactive protein (r: 0.312, p<0.001) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (r: 0.242, p<0.001), but not with platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio. In addition, a correlation was found between the SHFM score and MHR (r:-0.267, p<0.001). The SHFM score exhibited a significant result for proB- type natriuretic peptide (pro-BNP) (p<0.001), neutrophil (p<0.001), hematocrit (p=0.001), and serum creatinine (p=0.001) in the ordinal logistic regression analysis, but not for MHR. MHR showed a negative correlation with left ventricular ejection fraction (r: -0.151, p: 0.007), exhibited a positive association with pro-BNP (r: 0.184, p<0.001), and no correlation with New York Heart Association classes. There is a significant correlation between the MHR value and the factors associated with the severity of heart failure. The prognosis and management of this condition may be assessed by utilizing the MHR value in conjunction with existing biomarkers.Emerging Sources Citation Inde
Predicción Del Sexo Mediante Morfometría Geométrica Con Parámetros Obtenidos De La Órbita, El Hueso Nasal Y La Apertura Piriforme
Sex-related changes in the morphometry of the orbit and upper face is an important topic in plastic surgery, forensic sciences and basic medical sciences. With this hypothesis, the aim of this study is to estimate sex using geometric morphometry method with parameters obtained from orbits, nasal bone and pyriforme aperture. The study was performed on Computed Tomography images of 326 individuals aged 25-65 years. The images were three-dimensionalized and superimposed. The real magnification images were then converted to TPS format and 19 homologous landmarks were added to the images. Generalized Procrustes Analysis (GPA) was applied to the obtained coordinates and repositioned around the center of gravity. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was applied to the new data positioned around the center of gravity to reduce the dimensionality. Linear discriminate analysis (LDA) was applied to the dimensionality-reduced images to obtain sex estimation accuracy. The study found that 77.126 % of the coordinates gathered around the center of gravity could be explained by the first 3 Principal Component (PCs). LDA analysis applied to the new coordinates yielded a 96.01 % sex prediction rate. As a result of the study, a high accuracy rate was obtained in terms of sex prediction using geometric morphometry method with parameters obtained from the orbit, nasal bone and pyriforme aperture. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
White-Collar Employees’ Expectations From Human Resources Department in the Digital Era
Background: In today’s digital era, understanding the expectations of white-collar employees from the HR department during the digitalization process significantly impacts the digital transformation of businesses. Objective: This study examines white-collar employees’ expectations from the HR department in the digitalization process. Methods: In this study, qualitative research methods were utilized and three focus group interviews were conducted with 20 white-collar employees of the same company. The data was analyzed by thematic analysis using MAXQDA 2018 qualitative data analysis program. Results: White-collar employees’ expectations were divided into five main themes: providing training on technology use, updating recruitment criteria, preparing the company for digitalization, encouraging technology use, and determining the appropriateness of technology. Conclusions: This study can lead the HR department to learn the expectations of white-collar employees in the digitalization process and accelerate the digitalization process by taking on new roles. © The Author(s) 202
