    No full text
Two-dimensional MXenes and their derivatives have attracted significant attention in recent years for their potential applications in combination therapies, specifically in chemo-photothermal, chemodynamic, and photothermal/photodynamic treatments. MXenes offer distinct advantages in combination therapies due to their exceptional electrical conductivity, hydrophilicity, large surface area, tunable surface chemistry, and ability to enhance drug delivery and therapeutic efficacy through multifunctional applications. By incorporating MXenes into combination therapies, researchers have demonstrated enhanced therapeutic efficacy through synergistic mechanisms that improve drug delivery, increase localized heating, and amplify the generation of reactive oxygen species, thereby effectively targeting and eliminating cancer cells or contaminations. However, stability in biological environments remains a primary concern, as degradation can compromise their therapeutic effectiveness and safety. Ensuring biocompatibility is crucial, since the introduction of MXenes and their composites may trigger immune responses or cytotoxicity. Moreover, optimizing the synthesis of high-quality MXenes with uniform properties remains a logistical challenge, affecting reproducibility and scalability for clinical applications. By consolidating existing knowledge and identifying future directions, this review aims to advance MXenebased combination chemo-photothermal, chemodynamic, and photothermal/photodynamic therapies for cancer treatment and antibacterial applications, ultimately paving the way for innovative strategies in biomedicine and personalized medicine.Science Citation Index Expande

Engineering Moxifloxacin-Encapsulated Liposome-Enriched Alginate Hydrogel Films

    No full text
In the present study, we developed a moxifloxacin (MXF)-encapsulated liposome-enriched alginate nanocomposite hydrogel coating. MXF was encapsulated in soy lecithin (SL:MXF:2:1) via the probe sonication method with an average efficiency of 80%. Two different manufacturing methods, including a micropipetting and a T-shaped microfluidic junction (TMJ) device technique, were used to incorporate the MXF-encapsulated liposomes into hydrogel matrices and layered as a coating on polymeric substrate material. Drug encapsulation and its incorporation into the hydrogel matrix significantly enhanced its stability and facilitated a prolonged drug release profile. A relatively rapid drug release was observed in the MXF-encapsulated liposome-loaded polymeric particulate layer developed via the micropipetting than the TMJ device technique. The findings confirmed sustained drug release behavior due to a hydrogel particulate structural uniformity conferred by the micromachine device, TMJ. Thus, these nanocomposite hydrogel coatings achieved can serve as a promising candidate for the treatment of ophthalmic or mucosal membrane infections.Science Citation Index Expande

    No full text
Nanofluids are mixtures of a base fluid and nanoparticles (also known as nano-scaled particles), and they were used within advanced heat transfer applications with known aggregation issues as well as unreliability in performance. Molecular dynamics simulations can effectively look at nanofluid behavior with no disruptions, especially when considering the complications and limitations involved with performing experiments at the nano-scale. We conducted molecular dynamics simulations that investigate the thermal and atomic behaviors of a nanofluid, which involved ammonia nanofluids with copper nanoparticles in aluminum nanochannels. Our results focused on evaluating the outflow of the nanofluid and on determining the primary factors including maximum velocity, temperature heat flux and nanoparticle aggregation time while modifying the initial conditions of temperature (300-350 K), and pressure (1-5 bar). Furthermore, we found the thermophysical properties of the nanofluids were heavily dependent on the initial temperature and pressure. By improving the initial temperature and pressure, thermal systems can support the promotion of efficiency and sustainability. We also measured the kinetic and potential energies, with the potential energies measuring -8399.15 eV and 80.69 eV after 5 ns with no indications of structural instabilities. The results indicated that as the initial temperature was increased, maximum velocity increased from 0.00086 to 0.00099 Å/ps and maximum temperature increased from 240 to 258 K. Furthermore, heat flux decreased from 1411 to 1397 W/m² and aggregation time decreased from 3.96 to 3.93 ns. On the other hand, maximum velocity decreased to 0.00078 Å/ps and maximum temperature decreased to 234 K, as well as heat flux increased to 1436 W/m² and aggregation time increasing time was increased to 4.07 ns, with the increasing initial pressure. These results provided some insight into the optimization of nanofluids for energy conserving thermal control, by varying operating conditions, and offered implications for sustainable engineering applications. © 2025 The Author(s

Grounded in psychoanalytic theory, this research aims to fill a significant gap in the field of sports psychology. The study sample consisted of 326 active licensed athletes who completed the Selfobject Needs Inventory, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and the Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ-40). The findings revealed significant differences in defense mechanisms based on variables such as age, gender, relationship status, and type of sport. Additionally, a positive and significant relationship was found between perceived social support and mature defense mechanisms. In other words, regression analyses showed that the subdimensions of selfobject needs significantly predicted mature defense levels, and the inclusion of perceived social support substantially increased the explanatory power of the model. The results highlight the importance of jointly considering self psychology and social support systems to better understand the internal processes affecting athletes' performance and psychological resilience. This study is among the first systematic investigations to examine selfobject needs based on psychoanalytic theory alongside defense mechanisms in athletes, offering a unique contribution to the field of sports psychology. Effectiveness of Carbon Pricing Policy: An Empirical Analysis

    No full text
Carbon taxation has emerged as an effective policy tool for combating global climate change. This study investigates the impact of carbon pricing on carbon emissions and the carbon footprint (CF) in selected countries that were among the first to adopt carbon taxation, using panel data from 1992 to 2021. We apply range of econometric methods to address specific data challenges, including cross-section dependence tests to explore interdependencies among countries; Delta homogeneity tests to check whether variables are homogeneous across the panel; second-generation panel unit root tests (robust against cross-section dependence) to assess the stationarity ofvariables; and the Gegenbach et al. [2016] panel cointegration test (robust to both cross-section dependence and heterogeneity) to identify long-term relationships. We also use the panel Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares Mean Group (DOLSMG) estimator to estimate long-run coefficients, considering both heterogeneity across the panel and cross-section dependence. Finally, the Dumitrescu and Hurlin [2012] panel causality test -which also accounts for heterogeneity and cross-section dependence - is employed to examine causal relationships. The results indicate that carbon pricing effectively reduces both carbon emissions and CF. Moreover, the findings reveal a cointegrating relationship among the variables, as well as a unidirectional causal relationship from carbon pricing to both carbon emissions and CF

    No full text
This study aims to present a musical composition in which dramatic structure, music, and dance are woven into a unified narrative language within the context of musical theatre in Turkey. At it's core, the research centers on how the principle of integration one of the key theoretical pillars of musical theater can be realized on stage. The theoretical background section offers a brief overview of the historical evolution of the integration concept, along with an examination of the origins of the musical and its early examples. Stephen Block's theoretical propositions on musical theater serve as the foundation of the integration section and inform the framework of the entire study. In the 'Swamp Musical' section, scenes from the selected model musical are analyzed through the lens of Block's approach. The findings suggest that Block's principles of integration are not only embraced but actively implemented throughout the structure of the musical. This positions the 'Swamp Musical' as both an original and pioneering contribution to the development of musical theater in Turkey. The analyses further indicate that music evolves beyond a supportive role to become a driving force of dramatic action, while dance plays an equally significant role in moving the narrative forward

This study examined the relationship between pornography use, sexual satisfaction, and marital quality among 399 married individuals aged 25–45 living in Istanbul. Participants completed the Sociodemographic Information Form, Marital Quality Scale, New Sexual Satisfaction Scale, and Pornography Effects Scale via Google Forms. Data were analyzed using SPSS 28.0 with parametric tests due to normal distribution. The findings revealed that as negative perceptions regarding pornography increased, both marital quality and sexual satisfaction significantly decreased. In terms of gender, women reported significantly higher negative perceptions of pornography use compared to men. While education and socioeconomic status created significant differences in negative and positive effect scores, no significant differences were found in marital quality and sexual satisfaction scores across these groups. Sexual activity frequency was significantly associated with negative effects, marital quality, and sexual satisfaction; participants who reported more frequent sexual activity showed more favorable scores. Individuals who watched pornography with their partners had significantly higher marital quality scores compared to those who watched alone or did not watch at all. Additionally, increases in age and length of marriage were associated with decreases in marital quality and sexual satisfaction. Finally, regression analysis indicated that negative perceptions of pornography significantly predicted lower levels of both sexual satisfaction and marital quality, whereas positive perceptions were not significant predictors. The findings of the study were discussed within the framework of relevant theoretical literature, and suggestions were presented for researchers and clinicians accordingly

    No full text
Karakelleoğlu, Gökçenur/0000-0002-0382-369XObjective: To determine whether the triglycerides/glucose index (TyG-index), lipid accumulation product (LAP), and visceral adiposity index (VAI) would differ in young polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients when compared to the non-PCOS group, and to investigate the relationship between these markers and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in PCOS patients. Materials and methods: One hundred and ninety two women with PCOS, and 148 age and body mass index (BMI) matched healthy women without PCOS were enrolled. Levels of serum androgens, sex hormones, lipids, fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (Nt-probnp) were determined. The 75 g oral glucose tolerance test was performed. The Homeostatic Model Assessment-Insulin Resistance Index (HOMA-IR) and Matsuda insulin sensitivity index were calculated. Levels of TyG-index, LAP, and VAI were determined. Results: TyG, LAP, and VAI were significantly higher in PCOS patients than in the control group (P = 0.001 vs. P = 0.001 vs. P = 0.001, resp.). HOMA-IR was significantly higher in PCOS patients and Matsuda ISI was significantly lower in PCOS patients (P = 0.001 vs. P = 0.001, resp.). Levels of Nt-probnp were significantly higher in PCOS patients (P = 0.001). Serum total testosterone and androstenedione levels had significant correlations with TyG, LAP, and VAI. Nt-probnp was significantly correlated with TyG, LAP, and VAI. LDL was positively correlated and HDL was negatively correlated with TyG-index, LAP, and VAI. Conclusion: PCOS patients have increased values of TyG-index, LAP, and VAI. TyG index, LAP, and VAI may indicate an increased risk of CVD and hyperandrogenism in PCOS patients
