Water and ‘imperfect Peace’ in the Euphrates–tigris River Basin
Transboundary water politics in the Euphrates–Tigris (ET) basin has long developed in tandem with the various political confrontations that have taken place among Iraq, Syria and Turkey. However, since the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the beginnings of domestic unrest in Syria in 2011, transboundary water relations have been pursued within the context of an unstable international security environment, particularly with the emergence of non-state armed groups who have used water as a weapon against their opponents.1 At the same time, however, cooperative mechanisms have also been initiated by riparian politicians, diplomats and water line ministries as well as informal and external actors. This article sets out to examine the various emerging actors and mechanisms operating in this context, arguing that their coexistence in the basin demonstrates a case of ‘imperfect peace’. The concept of ‘imperfect peace’ is used to acknowledge the fact that relations can be reinforced through peaceful interactions, negotiations, agreements, treaties and diplomacy at multiple levels, even in conditions that do not amount to war, but where violence is present.2With a specific focus on the ET river basin, the main objective of this article is to address policy-relevant research questions, such as how various actors and mechanisms operate within and influence transboundary water relations under the conditions of ‘imperfect peace’, and what kind of joint security mechanisms the riparian states should create to cope with violent non-state actors who control water and infrastructure. In reflecting on these questions, the article will analyse the strategic role that water plays in environmental peacebuilding and reflect on possible ways to improve the protection of water during and after armed conflicts
Recollection & Traumatic Growth: Unique Mediational Pathways Through Traumatic Stress Components
Although the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak varies from time to time, the pandemic has affected larger audiences worldwide. Given the increasingly severe measures taken by the authorities, healthcare professionals have experienced positive and negative effects of the events, both personally and vicariously. The main aim is to examine how remembering influences vicarious traumatization and post-traumatic growth in a sample of healthcare workers. We proposed a multiple mediation model testing of distinct roles of stress components (hypervigilance, avoidance, intrusion) on the link between recollective features of remembering and post-traumatic growth, which allows characterizing memory-linked mechanisms underlying the effects of traumatic stress on growth. We demonstrated unique pathways by which remembering influenced traumatic growth. For the links of emotional intensity and imagery with growth, we found full mediation through avoidance and intrusion Individuals recalling events with high emotional intensity and imagery tend to experience more intrusions of trauma, which then resulted in traumatic growth. On the other hand, the opposite pattern was found for avoidance. Emotionally intense and vivid recall of events increased avoidance responses, but high avoidance reduced traumatic growth. With respect to reliving, while the pattern was similar, we found a partial mediation, showing the significant role reliving has in supporting traumatic growth.DuolingoEuropean Office of Aerospace Research and DevelopmentFindingFiveMIT-IBM Watson AI LabThe Robert J. Düşeyi Olmayan Ev
Self-compassion scale-athlete version-short form: Adaptation to Turkish and investigation of psychometric properties
The objective of the present study was to create the short form of the Self-Compassion Scale-Athlete Version developed by Killham, Mosewich, Mack, Gunnell, and Ferguson (2018), to adapt it into Turkish and to examine its psychometric properties. After the linguistic equivalence study, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and criterion-related validity were conducted. Cronbach's alpha coefficient and test-retest were used for reliability. As a result of the linguistic equivalence study, the agreement between the English and Turkish forms was good (ICC=.806). The factor analysis was conducted among 205 student-athletes (Meanage=22.70, SD=6.09, 62.9% male, 36.6% female, 0.5% nonbinary). EFA showed that the factor loads of the items were in the range of .582-.845, and the item-scale correlation values were in the range of .411-.633. Secondorder CFA supported one factor solution, corresponding to the two components. Goodness-of-fit indices were acceptable or good fit (RMSEA=.063, SRMR=.058, GFI=.933, AGFI=.902). The Self Compassion Scale-Athlete Version-Short Form (SCS-AV-SF) was positively correlated with Mindfulness Inventory for Sport and the SelfCompassion Scale. The SCS-AV-SF demonstrated reliable internal consistency (α=849). The intra-class correlation coefficient indicated excellent reliability for the measure at a two-week interval (ICC=.980). Overall, the present study suggests that the one factor and 12-item SCS-AV-SF is a valid and reliable instrument.
Exploring Elderly Customer-Employee Rapport in Services: Managerial and Social Implications
The increasing share of older people in the population has influenced the economic and social life andservices sectors. Banking services are integrated into almost all of the daily transactions and inevitablefor older consumers. This study aims to examine the special needs and expectations of older customers in retail banking. A survey was conducted on frontline salespeople in branches. The findings haveshown that older consumers expect special attention from their customer relationship managers. Therelationship managers have positive attitudes toward older consumers and high customer-employeerapport levels. Attitude and rapport constructs are positively and significantly correlated. In addition, relationship managers were divided into three clusters depending on their rapport levels and perceivedbranch visit reasons. This chapter has provided current empirical findings, insights, and managerialrecommendations about customer-employee relationships in the older consumers and services contexts

Perceived Self-Society Moral Discrepancies Concerning Fairness Predict Depression and Paranoid Ideation
Published, 25 October 2018 / Issue Date, March 2021This study investigated the psychological correlates of perceiving a discrepancy between one’s own moral beliefs and those of the greater society (a ‘moral discrepancy’). One hundred and one female Turkish students answered questions about their own moral beliefs, their perceptions of the greater society’s moral beliefs, and their mental health. Moral discrepancies were assessed using an adaptation of the Moral Foundations Questionnaire (Graham et al. 2009), while mental health was assessed using the Symptom Check List-90-Revised (Derogatis 1992). Participants who perceived a discrepancy relating to fairness and reciprocity concerns reported more depressed and paranoid symptoms. It is suggested that moral discrepancies can create a vulnerability to depression and paranoid thinking by fostering a feeling of isolation
Fuzzy Capital Budgeting Using Fermatean Fuzzy Sets
Investment projects are mostly evaluated by capital budgeting techniques to measure their profitability. The parameters used in capital budgeting such as future cash flows, interest rate and useful life involves high uncertainty due to the lack of information for the future environment. Since the uncertainty involved in forecasting the parameters is mostly in high levels, fuzzy set theory could be used in the determination of capital budgeting parameters to handle uncertain information in the analyses. Fermatean fuzzy sets are one of the most recent extensions of fuzzy set theory which are capable to handle higher levels of uncertainties by assigning fuzzy parameters from a larger domain. In this paper, fuzzy capital budgeting techniques that are fuzzy net present worth, fuzzy net future worth and fuzzy net annual worth are extended using fermatean fuzzy sets. An illustration for the calculations is also presented
Designing and building follies as a pedagogical approach in architectural design education
Architectural education has its own unique character in-between rational and creative thinking. Within this wide perspective, learning by doing becomes important so as to cover different aspects of this education. At MEF University Faculty of Arts Design and Architecture (FADA), we we've created a unique program called Design-Build Studio (DBS) in order to push creating and doing beyond the boundaries of architectural design studios at universities. In this essay, I would like to focus on follies that we have been designing since 2015 in our DBS program as a pedagogical approach in architectural design education. Follies are pregnant points that can give birth to various forms and functions. Their open structure allows a collective design process with the participation of tutors, students, users, locals, municipalities, and NGOs. Through DBS project our students get a real design experience in a real place with real people, discover the difficulties of this process, improve their communication skills and comprehend the power of design to be used as a tool to improve the lives of everyone. As a result, we believe that designing and creating follie-like structures is critical in architectural design education
