On the Gas Pressure Inside Cavitation Bubbles
TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye) [117M072]; National Center for High Performance Computing of Turkiye (UHeM) [1006552019]This paper is in part supported by TUEBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Tuerkiye) under Grant No. 117M072. Computing resources used in this work were provided by the National Center for High Performance Computing of Tuerkiye (UHeM) under Grant No. 1006552019.The validity of the reduced order [Delale and Pasinlioglu, Acoustic cavitation model based on a novel reduced order gas pressure law, AIP Adv. 11, 115309 (2021)] and of classical polytropic gas pressure laws during the response of a bubble to variations in the pressure of the surrounding liquid is investigated. In particular, from the exact expression of the gas pressure coupled to the thermal behavior of gas bubbles, we identify the conditions where the reduced order gas pressure law and the classical polytropic law hold. We then distinguish three regimes for the change of state of the bubble during its nonlinear oscillations as the nearly isothermal, transition, and nearly adiabatic regimes, depending on the value of the polytropic index, and we determine the mean value of the polytropic index in each regime by averaging over a parameter, which is a function of the Peclet number based on the characteristic thermal diffusion time. The results of the temporal evolution of the bubble radius, the bubble wall temperature, and the partial gas pressure inside the bubble are presented using an acoustic cavitation model based on the reduced order gas pressure law for both constant and variable interface properties
Correction To: Validation of the Short Version (tls-15) of the Triangular Love Scale (tls-45) Across 37 Language
Love is a phenomenon that occurs across the world and affects many aspects of human life, including the choice of, and process of bonding with, a romantic partner. Thus, developing a reliable and valid measure of love experiences is crucial. One of the most popular tools to quantify love is Sternberg’s 45-item Triangular Love Scale (TLS-45), which measures three love components: intimacy, passion, and commitment. However, our literature review reveals that most studies (64%) use a broad variety of shortened versions of the TLS-45. Here, aiming to achieve scientific consensus and improve the reliability, comparability, and generalizability of results across studies, we developed a short version of the scale—the TLS-15—comprised of 15 items with 5-point, rather than 9-point, response scales. In Study 1 (N = 7,332), we re-analyzed secondary data from a large-scale multinational study that validated the original TLS-45 to establish whether the scale could be truncated. In Study 2 (N = 307), we provided evidence for the three-factor structure of the TLS-15 and its reliability. Study 3 (N = 413) confirmed convergent validity and test–retest stability of the TLS-15. Study 4 (N = 60,311) presented a large-scale validation across 37 linguistic versions of the TLS-15 on a cross-cultural sample spanning every continent of the globe. The overall results provide support for the reliability, validity, and cross-cultural invariance of the TLS-15, which can be used as a measure of love components—either separately or jointly as a three-factor measure
Resolving Conflicts During Human-Robot Co-Manipulation
Al-Saadi, Zaid/0000-0003-3321-1181This paper proposes a machine learning ( ML) approach to detect and resolve motion conflicts that occur between a human and a proactive robot during the execution of a physically collaborative task. We train a random forest classifier to distinguish between harmonious and conflicting human-robot interaction behaviors during object co-manipulation. Kinesthetic information generated through the teamwork is used to describe the interactive quality of collaboration. As such, we demonstrate that features derived from haptic (force/torque) data are sufficient to classify if the human and the robot harmoniously manipulate the object or they face a conflict. A conflict resolution strategy is implemented to get the robotic partner to proactively contribute to the task via online trajectory planning whenever interactive motion patterns are harmonious, and to follow the human lead when a conflict is detected. An admittance controller regulates the physical interaction between the human and the robot during the task. This enables the robot to follow the human passively when there is a conflict. An artificial potential field is used to proactively control the robot motion when partners work in harmony. An experimental study is designed to create scenarios involving harmonious and conflicting interactions during collaborative manipulation of an object, and to create a dataset to train and test the random forest classifier. The results of the study show that ML can successfully detect conflicts and the proposed conflict resolution mechanism reduces human force and effort significantly compared to the case of a passive robot that always follows the human partner and a proactive robot that cannot resolve conflicts.CHIST-ERA [HEAP: EP/S033718/2, EP/T022493/1, EP/V00784X]This work is partially funded by UKRI and CHIST-ERA (HEAP: EP/S033718/2; Horizon: EP/T022493/1; TAS Hub: EP/V00784X)
Parenting Measurement, Normativeness, and Associations With Child Outcomes: Comparing Evidence From Four Non-Western Cultures
Marjorie Pay Hinckley Endowed Chair Seed Money Grant; Sunrider International; Zina Young Williams Card ProfessorshipMarjorie Pay Hinckley Endowed Chair Seed Money Grant, Sunrider International, Zina Young Williams Card Professorship awarded to Craig H. HartThis study compared parenting across four non-Western cultures to test cross-cultural commonality and specificity principles in three aspects: measurement properties, parenting normativeness, and their associations with child outcomes. Both mothers and fathers (N = 1509 dyads) with preschool-aged children (M = 5.00 years; 48% girls) from urban areas of four countries (Malaysia, N = 372; China, N = 441; Turkey, N = 402; and Japan, N = 294) reported on four parenting constructs (authoritative, authoritarian, group harmony socialization, and intrusive control) and their sub-dimensions using modified culturally relevant measures. Teachers reported on children's internalizing, externalizing, and prosocial behaviors. The commonality principle was supported by two sets of findings: (1) full measurement invariance was established for most parenting constructs and sub-dimensions, except that intrusive control only reached partial scalar invariance, and (2) no variations were found in associations between parenting and any child outcomes across cultures or parent gender at the construct level for all four parenting constructs and at the sub-dimensional level for authoritarian and intrusive control sub-dimensions. The specificity principle was supported by the other two sets of findings: (1) cross-cultural differences in parenting normativeness did not follow the pattern of economic development but yielded culture-specific patterns, and (2) at the sub-dimensional level, the authoritative parenting and group harmony socialization sub-dimensions were differently associated with child outcomes across cultures and/or parent gender. The findings suggested that examining specific dimensions rather than broad parenting constructs is necessary to reflect cultural specificities and nuances. Our study provided a culturally-invariant instrument and a three-step guide for future parenting research to examine cross-cultural commonalities/specificities. Research HighlightsThis is the first study to use an instrument with measurement invariance across multiple non-Western cultures to examine the commonality and specificity principles in parenting.Measurement invariance was achieved across cultures for authoritative and authoritarian parenting, group harmony socialization, intrusive control, and their sub-dimensions, supporting the commonality principle.Cross-cultural differences in parenting normativeness did not follow the pattern of economic development but yielded culture-specific patterns, supporting the specificity principle. Both commonalities and specificities were manifested in associations between parenting and child outcomes across cultures
In this research, prefabricated micro living unit experiments are examined over two historical periods, 1960s-1970s and 2000s-2010s. The aim of the study is to reveal the different motivations that resulted with a common production on the same housing typology in the context of socio economic, technological developments and popular culture. In addition to questioning whether the productions in the 1960s-1970s did turn into a common housing typology in their period or not, questioning the successful and unsuccessful aspects of these projects as well as identifying continuities and changes in the 2000s-2010s form the basis of this research. One of the aims is to reveal what role 1960s-1970s productions played in the 2000s-2010s. In order to achieve this aim, first of all, the historical development of prefabricated and micro living units was examined separately and the emergence of prefabricated micro living units as a housing typology was examined. Later, in chapter two the dynamics of the two historical periods are addressed separately through socio-economic, technological developments and popular culture and case studies of each period are introduced. Continuing visions and changing ideals between two historical periods spanning 1960s-1970s and 2000s-2010s are examined in chapters three and four. And finally, Volu-te, a prefabricated micro living unit developed under the Alternative Architectural Practices master's program, is located within the context of prefabricated micro living units in the 2000s-2010
Fault Detection Model Using Measurement Data in Fiber Optic Internet Lines
Index Tarihi : 19 Ocak 2024In this study, a model has been developed to predict potential faults in advance based on performance metrics of various fiber-optic internet lines, as well as alarm (fault data) and performance measurement values from the 5 hours prior to the occurrence of the alarm. Performance metrics that vary over time have been analyzed in a time-series format based on alarm numbers, and anomaly detection methods have been used to label the data for any potential patterns that may occur in the performance metrics specific to the alarm. The labeled data was then fed into a classification model to create a model that enables to detect possible patterns in the relevant performance values for the specific fault type. The best performing model was Random Forest Classifier with accuracy and F1 scores of 0.89 and 0.84 respectively
Basın Demeçleri Bağlamında Türk ve Amerikan İlişkilerinin Terörle Mücadele Boyutu
The research question, which forms the departure point for this thesis, is 'to what extent states can cooperate against violent nonstate actors and terrorism'. To this end, the policies and cooperation dynamics of the USA and Turkey against PKK/PYD and ISIS are studied. The method followed is the joint application of discourse analysis and process tracing. The process analysis was conducted by analyzing the discourses of people in the management of different institutions, from heads of state to the ministry of defense, from foreign ministers to government spokespersons between 2011-2018 and comparing them with their actions in the field. Various news sources were scanned in this time period, and the operations carried out against terrorist organizations in the field were examined in tandem with the literature review. Discourses of people in state institutions were obtained from publicly available sources and cross-checked by researching and confirming from various sources. The opinions and suggestions in the thesis do not reflect the opinion of any person or institution, and belong to the researcher.Bu tez çalışmasında Suriye'ye sıçrayan Arap baharının oluşturmuş olduğu kaotik ortamda kendine yer edinen PKK/PYD ve İŞİD terör örgütlerine karşı müttefik olan Türkiye ve Amerika'nın terörle mücadelede ne denli işbirliği yapabildiği araştırma sorusundan yola çıkılarak, devletlerin terörizme karşı işbirliği zorlukları irdelenmiştir.
