Cnn-Based Emotion Recognition Using Data Augmentation and Preprocessing Methods

    No full text
In this paper, a system that recognizes emotion from human faces is designed using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). CNN is known to perform well when trained with a large database. The lack of large and balanced publicly available databases that can be used by deep learning methods for emotion recognition is still a challenge. To overcome this problem, the number of data is increased by merging FER+, CK+ and KDEF databases; and preprocessing is applied to the face images in order to reduce the variations in the database. Data augmentation methods are used to reduce the imbalance in the data distribution that still remains despite the increasing number of data in the merged database. The CNN-based method developed using database merging, image preprocessing and data augmentation, achieved emotion recognition with 80% accuracy

This study examines the impact of analytical customer relationship management (aCRM) strategies, specifically the segmentation approach using RFM analysis and artificial learning methods, on customer satisfaction, revenue performance, and loyalty in businesses. The research adopts an approach that integrates data from both online and offline channels onto a single platform, providing a holistic view of customer behaviors. Combining the segmentation obtained through RFM analysis and artificial learning methods with timely campaigns has enhanced shopping opportunities for customers and increased customer satisfaction and loyalty. The use of aCRM as a strategic marketing and sales tool has enabled businesses to manage customer relationships more effectively. This paper contributes to the literature in this field by presenting in detail the advantages offered by aCRM, its application methods, and the results obtained

Jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court over Nationals of Non-States Parties to the Rome Statute: The Case of Vladimir Putin

    No full text
On 17 March 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants against President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation and Presidential Commissioner for the Rights of the Child Maria Lvova-Belova, reigniting the long-standing debate on the ICC/s jurisdiction over nationals of states that are not parties to the Rome Statute, especially when this jurisdiction is intended to be exercised over a sitting head of state. A competent international criminal court may be the only place where heads of state, who enjoy immunity from prosecution for all their acts and transactions while in office, can be tried. But even if an international criminal court has jurisdiction, is it that easy to carry out such a trial? This is one of those issues where politics and law, the interests of states and their rights and obligations, the pursuit of justice and the competition for power are intertwined, and when it comes to the prosecution of a person such as Putin, who has been ruling a permanent member state of the UNSC for over two decades becomes more challangeing. This study examines whether immunities recognized under international law would constitute a bar to the jurisdiction of the Court to try the incumbent Head of State that is not a party to the ICC Statute (Rome Statute) and to the obligations of states party to the Rome Statute to cooperate with the ICC.17 Mart 2023 tarihinde Uluslararası Ceza Mahkemesi (UCM) tarafından, Rusya Federasyonu Devlet Başkanı Vladimir Putin ve Başkanlık Çocuk Hakları Komiseri Maria Lvova-Belova hakkında tutuklama emri çıkartılması üzerine, uzun zamandır tartışılan Roma Statüsü'ne taraf olmayan devletlerin vatandaşları üzerinde UCM'nin yargı yetkisini kullanması meselesi, hele ki bu yetki görevde bir devlet başkanı üzerinde kullanılmak istenince, tekrar alevlenmiştir.

Making the Myths of Dating Violence Visible: Developing a New Scale and Testing Its Psychometrics Through Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Evidence

    No full text
Myths refer to misperceptions, overgeneralizations, or ideas that most people believe in but do not necessarily reflect the truth. To date, research on the myths surrounding dating violence (DV) has not received much attention, most probably due to the lack of a validated measure. Thus, we developed a standardized measure to gauge DV myths and test its psychometrics. The instrument's design is based on three studies utilizing cross-sectional and longitudinal sets of data. In Study 1, in a sample of 259 emerging adults, predominantly college students, the explanatory factor analysis revealed a solid three-factor structure. In Study 2, in a separate sample of 330 emerging adults, primarily college students, we cross-validated the factor structure via confirmatory factor analysis. We also provided evidence for concurrent validity. In Study 3, we revealed that our newly developed scale had predictive validity among dating and non-dating emerging adults, mostly college students, via longitudinal data. Based on the findings from three studies, we can buoyantly announce that the Dating Violence Myths scale is a promising novel and standardized tool for measuring beliefs about DV. The cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence alludes to a need for DV myths to be debunked to reduce psychological DV attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors among emerging adults

Perturbations for Vibration of Nano-Beams of Local/Nonlocal Mixture

    No full text
Here we extend the perturbation approach, previously presented in the literature for Eringen’s two-phase local/nonlocal mixture model, to free vibration of purely flexible beams. In particular, we expand the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors into power series of the fraction coefficient of the non-local material response up to 2nd order. We show that the family of 0th order bending couples satisfy the natural and essential boundary conditions of the 1st order; hence, the 1st order solution can conveniently be constructed using the eigenspace of the 0th order with no necessity of additional conditions. We obtain the condition of solvability that provides the incremental eigenvalue in closed form. We further demonstrate that the 1st order increment of the eigenvalue is always negative, providing the well-known softening effect of long-range interactions among the material points of a continuum modelled with Eringen’s theory. We examine a simply supported beam as a benchmark problem and present the incremental eigenvalues in closed form. © 2023, Association of American Publishers. All rights reserved

The subject of our research is Unusual Work In Turkish Labor Law. In order to be able to talk about the concept of unusual work, it will be necessary to examine the working time first. If the working time is not limited, it will not be possible to talk about unusual work. The basis of the limitation will be that it is not conducive to the health of the worker to work all day and thus increase productivity. For this reason, after briefly including the concept of working time in our study, unusual work was examined in detail. Overwork can have a negative impact on the health and social life of the worker as well as benefiting the worker. Usually, there is a dispute between the employee and the employer due to the fact that the unusual work performed is not in accordance with the requirements of the law. Accordingly, the majority of the cases filed in the labor courts are the wages they will receive for unusual work. Solutions to the problems of unusual work will need to be in accordance with the law and the constitution. The number of disputes between the parties on this issue is high, the issue is extensive and broad. In addition, in line with technological developments, legislation and the case law of the Court of Cassation also change over time. For this reason, the subject of Unusual work in Turkish Labor Law is the subject of our study because it has a separate importance. In our study, the concept of unusual work has been examined in all aspects, and topics such as the concept of working time, equalization practice, proof of unusual work, remuneration or free time as compensation for unusual work, the consequences of not paying for unusual work, the prohibition, the limit and the consequences of not complying with them have been discussed. In addition, except the Labor Law, the regulations in the Maritime Labor Law, the Press Labor Law and the Turkish Code of Obligations have been included. Again, throughout our study, the examination was carried out in accordance with the established judicial decisions and discussions in the teaching.

Toward a Novel Neuroscience-Based System Approach Integrating Cognitive and Implicit Learning in Education

    No full text
Emotional-enhanced learning is a meaningful driver of engagement leading to long-term memory retention in learners, however, traditional approaches such as problem-based learning, and project-based learning, among others, do not consider brain-based learning guidelines concerning learner’s emotional experience design. The Neuroscience-based Learning (NBL) technique is a novel neuro-educational approach that applies the implicit neuro-physiological mechanisms underlying vivid and highly-arousal emotion-al experiences leading to long-term memory retention. The NBL is devised from a cybernetic system point of view, by explaining the novel neuro-physiological learning scheme describing the relation among the environment and the learner’s internal mental processes ranging from perceptions, comparison with previous experiences and memories, immediate sensations and reactions, emotions, desires, intentions, higher order cognitive functions, and controlled actions towards the environment. While explaining biological processes, the scheme also relates the types of memory systems with their non-associative and associative learning mechanisms, and the variables that modulate learning. NBL proposes the triggers for a vivid and highly-arousal emotional learning, which are novelty, unpredictability, sense of low control, threat to ego, avoidance (aversion-mediated learning), and reward (reward-based learning). © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG
