The Prediction of Nursing Students' Pediatric Pain Awareness Based on Levels of Child Liking and Basic Empathy
Problem Effective management of pediatric pain, a common issue faced by pediatric nurses, requires structured and comprehensive nursing education. Nurses' abilities, such as child-liking attitudes and basic empathy, play a critical role in recognizing and managing pain. This study aimed to predict nursing students' pain awareness based on their levels of child liking and basic empathy after completing the Child Health and Diseases Nursing course. Methods This descriptive and correlational study included 90 third-year nursing students from a university in Turkey. Data were collected using a sociodemographic data form, the Barnett Child liking Scale, the Basic Empathy Scale, and the Pain Awareness Subdimension of the Pediatric Pain Management Scale for Nursing Students. Findings The students scored 80.44 +/- 12.622 on the Child Liking Scale, 60.56 +/- 4.557 on the Basic Empathy Scale, and 24.96 +/- 2.263 on the Pediatric Pain Awareness subdimension. The PLS-SEM model revealed that child liking, and basic empathy positively and significantly influenced pain awareness (p 0.01). Conclusions Nursing students demonstrated high levels of child-liking and pediatric pain awareness, with moderate empathy levels. Child-liking and empathy skills predict pain awareness, emphasizing the need for targeted professional development for nursing students aspiring to specialize in pediatric nursing
Sustainable Consumption and Production in Tourism: Case of an Emerging Economy
The study focuses on sustainable consumption and production, one of the primary Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, in the tourism industry through a semi-structured interview with the business owners and managers. The analysis presents first-hand data from 37 owners, managers, and top-level executives of firms in an emerging economy, Turkey. The study's findings reveal different strategic perspectives of professionals for sustainable consumption and production, especially for staying local, waste management, energy, and water savings. The vast majority of organizations with a sustainable and resilient strategy consider energy and water savings, waste management, and recycling but suffer from uneducated staff, and insufficient waste management. Only a few business owners mentioned green management practices. This exploratory study sheds light on the future agenda for sustainable development, offering insights for both researchers and practitioners
Exploring Vr and Neuroscience Methodologies in Interior Design: a Systematic Review
Albayrak-Kutlay, Yasemin/0000-0002-7168-5735; Bengisu, Murat/0000-0001-6814-5861The intersection of neuroscience and interior design offers innovative methodologies for quantifying human experiences in interiors. This systematic review explores the use of immersive virtual reality (IVR) technologies and biometrics in neuroscience-informed interior design, aimed at evaluating current practices, identifying challenges, and suggesting future directions. This study has three objectives: (1) to examine the current applications of integrated VR/neuroscience methodologies in neuroscience-informed interior design; (2) to investigate the utilization of IVR technologies, devices, and sensors measuring biometrics employed in neuroscience-informed interior design to quantify human experience; and (3) to explore potential future directions in interior design that integrate insights from neuroscientific research findings and methodologies. Using the PRISMA methodology, we searched databases, including Taylor and Francis Online, ProQuest, PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus, and ScienceDirect, in October 2023, retrieving 164 eligible studies, with 29 reviewed in detail. The risk of bias was assessed by paying attention to randomization, intervention deviations, outcome measurement, and the selection of reported results. The findings highlight the critical role of IVR and biometric analysis in enhancing research validity. However, variability in data reliability and differences between self-assessed and neurophysiological outcomes, particularly in EEG studies, have been noted. Despite these limitations, the reviewed studies present reliable findings, underscoring the potential for interdisciplinary collaboration to address technical challenges. Practical implications include advancing evidence-based interior design and developing tools to capture and interpret human experiences better. This study provides designers with a detailed analysis of IVR and neuroscience methodologies, highlighting tools, outcome measures, and their advantages and limitations. Future research should prioritize deeper insights into human-environment interactions through artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and biometric sensors integrated with IVR technologies. These advancements will equip designers with interdisciplinary methods and emerging technologies to create innovative interiors that enhance the quality of life
When a Leader Does Not Know How Their Humor Is Viewed by Subordinates: Exploring Relationships Among Leaders' Meta-Accuracy Deficiencies, Subordinate Negative Affect, and Group Identification
Rather than a generalized appreciation of leader humor, we argue that leader humor may not always be effective, even when it is positive in nature. Drawing on theories of meta-accuracy, self-other rating agreement, and social identification, we explore how leaders' lack of meta-accuracy regarding their own humor is associated with subordinates' negative affect toward the leader and their sense of group identification. We operationalize a lack of meta-accuracy as a misalignment between leaders' and subordinates' perceptions of leader positive humor. Our study found that when leaders lacked meta-accuracy in assessing their own humor, subordinates experienced increased negative affect, which in turn negatively influenced group identification. Our research highlights the importance of leaders' meta-accuracy in their use of humor. Deficiencies in this area can lead to either excessive or insufficient instances of leader humor, which become negative events for subordinates. Furthermore, our findings suggest that, from the subordinates' perspective, it is not the content of leader humor that holds importance, but rather its quantity relative to the expectations of the subordinates
Infertility and Bowen's Systematic Family Therapy Approach

The intraoperative and postoperative data of patients who underwent NI-UniVATS were evaluated. Results: Among the cases, 37 (72.5%) were male, and 14 (46.6%) were female, with a mean age of 47.73 +/- 20.43 years (range: 18-78 years). The mean operative time was 25.92 +/- 7.31 min. No perioperative complications were observed in any patient. The mean postoperative hospital stay was 4.17 +/- 1.76 days (range: 2-9 days). A right hemithoracic approach was performed in 28 patients (54.9%), whereas a left hemithoracic approach was used in 23 patients (45.1%). The procedures performed included wedge resection in 27 patients (52.9%), biopsy in 22 patients (43.1%), pericardial window creation in one patient (2%), and intrathoracic foreign body removal in one patient (2%). Conclusions: NI-UniVATS allows for safer surgery by preventing the adverse effects and complications associated with general anesthesia. NI-UniVATS can be recommended as a safe and feasible approach for both minor and major thoracic procedures
In Silico Target Analysis and Drug Candidate Identification for Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a bone marrow disorder originating from abnormalities in hematopoietic stem cells caused by genetic mutations in blood cell precursors. These mutations result in the uncontrolled growth of malignant clonal myeloid stem cells. While extramedullary manifestations like myeloid sarcomas and leukemia cutis may occur, the primary concern remains the disruptions in hematologic cell production. Although, complete remission rate is high in elderly patience, there is a significant amount of patience relapce within 3 years. To overcome this problem, new targets needs to be find. In this thesis, PSMB8 was taken our attention with higher expression levels in AML patience with lower survival rate compared to those who have lower expression rate. PSMB8 crystal structure taken from PDB (6E5B) and ligand molecules taken from ZINC15 database by filtering 'for sale', 'named' and 'in trial'. In silico screening done by using PyRx. Ligands which has binding energy lower than -9.00 kcal/mol was utilized for ADMET analysis. The ligands, Adozelesin, Fiduxosin and Omipalisib was selected for Molecular dynamics analysis. Gromacs 2021.2 was used for MD analysis. MD analysis revealed all three drugs might have been using for PSMB8 targetting. In the next step, investigation of cytotoxicity of Omipalisib compared to ONX-0914, which is a inhibitor of PSMB8 on HL60 cell lines. This study revealed that potential target for Acute Myeloid Leukemia and potential drug can be used for targetted therapy. PSMB8'in kristal yapısı PDB'den (6E5B), ligand molekülleri ise ZINC15 veritabanından 'for sale', 'named' ve 'in trial' filtreleri kullanılarak alınmıştır. PyRx kullanılarak in silico tarama yapılmıştır.
Dark Side of the Shoulder: Suprascapular and Axillary Nerve Compressions
BackgroundThe suprascapular and axillary nerves can be subject to entrapment due to both their anatomical courses and their anatomical relationships with surrounding anatomical structures around shoulder. These entrapments were previously considered as a diagnosis of exclusion. However, today these pathologies can be diagnosed as primary. The most common complaints of patients are pain and sometimes weakness. The clinician's suspicion is very important in making diagnosis. The patient's history, duration of symptoms, and information such as the movements in which the complaints increase should be questioned carefully and in detail. In physical examination, symmetrical evaluation of both shoulders can provide important information. In addition, cervical and brachial plexus pathologies should be kept in mind. According to the suprascapular and axillary nerve innervations, muscle atrophy should be evaluated during inspection. Range of motion and neurological examination around shoulder should be performed. Since these entrapments can be seen together with rotator cuff tears and labrum pathologies etc., these additional pathologies should also be targeted during evaluation. The evaluation should be expanded with imaging methods such as plain radiographs, ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, electrodiagnostic studies and local anaesthetic injections to the entrapment area. There is no definitive method to diagnose these pathologies. As a result of all these evaluations, a diagnosis can be made. There is no consensus on treatment. In isolated entrapment cases where there are no additional surgical pathologies such as space-occupying lesions, non-operative treatment is primarily recommended. It is generally recommended to try non-operative treatment for at least six months. Surgical treatment is recommended in cases where non-operative treatment fails or in cases where there are additional pathologies requiring surgery or in cases where there is extrinsic compression such as sapce-occupying lesions. In the decision and choice of surgical treatment, it is very important to determine the aetiology precisely. Surgical treatment can be performed open and arthroscopically. Various additional arthroscopic portals and techniques have been described. However, there is no clear consensus on the superiority of these treatments over each other. Although physical therapy is recommended after surgical treatment, there is no consensus on this issue in the literature.AimThis review aims to summarize the diagnosis and management of suprascapular and axillary nerve entrapments in athletes, focusing on clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, treatment options, and current controversies.Open Access funding provided by the Qatar National Library. Differential Effects of Sertraline and Penfluridol on EMT and ECM Remodeling in Glioblastoma Cell Lines
Purpose: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor with poor prognosis due to rapid recurrence, chemoresistance, and limited efficacy of standard therapies. Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-mediated extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling are critical processes in GBM progression and metastasis. The aim of this study is to examine the potential effects of sertraline and penfluridol on the EMT process and gelatinase activity in human glioblastoma cell lines. Material and Methods: U87 and U251 human glioblastoma cells were treated with sertraline and penfluridol at previously identified IC50 doses. Protein levels of EMT markers, E-cadherin, vimentin, Snail, Slug, Twist1, phospho-Akt (p-Akt), and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (TIMP-2), were evaluated using Western blotting. Additionally, the impact of sertraline and penfluridol on the release and activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were assessed through gelatin zymography. Results: Both sertraline and penfluridol significantly reduced vimentin expression in U251 cells, indicating inhibition of the mesenchymal phenotype. Conversely, these drugs increased vimentin levels in U87 cells, highlighting cell line-specific differences. Sertraline and penfluridol also increased TIMP-2 levels in U251 cells but not in U87 cells. Neither drug altered MMP-2 or MMP-9 activity in either cell line, suggesting that their effects on ECM remodeling may be mediated through TIMP-2 upregulation rather than direct modulation of gelatinase activity. Conclusion: These findings suggest that sertraline and penfluridol potentially inhibit EMT and reduce ECM degradation in U251 cells but exert contrasting effects in U87 cells. This highlights the heterogeneity of GBM tumors and the importance of personalized therapeutic approaches
Spaces of Contrast: Robert Frank's America Through a Heterotopic Lens
This paper explores Robert Frank's seminal photobook The Americans, using Michel Foucault's concept of heterotopias, as discussed in his 1967 lecture Des Espaces Autres. By analyzing the visual and thematic elements of the book, this study explores how Frank's depiction of 1950s America challenges conventional narratives of American identity and space. The research places Frank's work in the socio-political context of post-war America, emphasizing how his photographs capture both the utopian ideals and the underlying societal tensions of the era. His images, often subtle yet powerful, document scenes that reflect a fragmented and multifaceted nation, revealing disparities between appearance and reality. The concept of heterotopias, as described by Foucault, offers a broader look at Frank's images, through which we can analyse their complex and paradoxical nature. His photographs not only represent physical spaces but also evoke mental and social spaces that are layered with meaning. Examining The Americans from this unique perspective reveals its heterotopic content, allowing the viewer to notice the coexistence of different social realities, albeit occasionally in conflict. By providing an insight into Frank's photographic narrative and its correlation with Foucault's theory, the study aims shedding light on the ways in which visual media can reveal complex social dynamics and question established cultural norms
