    No full text

    No full text
International audienceIn ordre to characterize the nature of pastoral activities during Iron Age, between Lower Provence and the Western Alps, this poster highlights the value of a multi-proxy approach (pastoral archaeology, archaeozoology, isotopic analysis, sedimentary DNA, paleoecology).Agro-pastoral structures have been identified and excavated at high altitudes since the 1990s. In the Nice hinterland, some settlements potentially dedicated to this purpose have more recently been distinguished from fortified sites. A comparison with the inventory of small artifacts linked to dairy and wool-related activities, mostly recorded in plain areas, will also be presented.Regarding fauna, recent studies enhance our understanding of the evolution of dietary choices and animal husbandry methods. Isotopic data obtained from the teeth of goats have recently shed new light on the mobility of herds. Finally, pollen and anthracological data allow for a reconstruction of vegetation changes and human impact over time. Sedimentary DNA now provides a fresh perspective on the anthropization of these environments. This poster complements a presentation in session 2 ("Mobility, livestock production and supply strategies in the western Alpine Arc and its Mediterranean margins: a synthesis of recent works on the Iron Age").Afin de caractériser la nature des activités pastorales durant la Protohistoire, entre Basse Provence et Alpes occidentales, ce poster présente l’intérêt d’une approche multi-proxies (archéologie pastorale, archéozoologie, analyses isotopiques, ADN sédimentaire, paléoécologie).

    No full text
International audienceThis article explores the use of forum theatre as a method of ethnography of performance within the framework of participatory action-research on drought and the uses of water. The research was carried out in 2022 in Morocco and Luberon (Southern France), with the aim of questioning epistemic injustices. The stakes revolved around developing a living, embodied and situated relationship with knowledge. Drama has allowed the creation of a shared space of expression, the experience in the performers’ bodies of the complexity of relationships with knowledge, and to include them in action.

A LEAP Forward in Wildlife Conservation: A Standardized Framework to Determine Mortality Causes in Large GPS ‐Tagged Birds

    No full text
International audienceAnthropogenic activities threaten many wildlife populations by increasing mortality rates, making it crucial to identify the locations and causes of mortality to inform conservation actions. Technological advancements, such as GPS satellite tracking, enable precise recording of wildlife movements. High‐resolution data from such devices can facilitate rapid carcass recovery and provide insights into the mortality causes of tagged individuals. Obtaining required information to determine these causes is complex, and standardized approaches can overcome these limitations. In this study, we introduce the LIFE EUROKITE Assessment Protocol (LEAP), a framework for determining the timing, locations, and causes of mortality in GPS‐tagged birds. LEAP is a multifaceted approach that integrates: (1) GPS tracking data, (2) evidence from the mortality location (site investigation), and (3) necropsy results to derive the mortality cause and a corresponding certainty score. We supplement the detailed description of LEAP with case studies assessing its effectiveness. Using 329 deceased GPS‐tagged red kites ( Milvus milvus ) we compared conditions of the carcasses processed using LEAP with 145 opportunistically collected raptor carcasses. We also show that LEAP improves carcass condition and therefore allows for higher quality necropsy results. Additionally, we assessed how availability among sources of information (tracking, site investigation and necropsy) influences the quality of mortality assessments. Applying LEAP with all data sources provided the highest quality assessments in 64% of cases. Some 35% of cases were of high quality without necropsy, instead drawing evidence only from tracking data and site investigations. Predation related mortality was less prevalent (11%) when relying on necropsy compared to cases without necropsy (36%), while poisoning showed the opposite trend. Furthermore, we provide guidelines and empirical examples of mortality assessments. Our standardized LEAP approach ensures the best use of all available information regarding mortality events in GPS‐tagged birds and advances wildlife mortality research as a valuable tool for conservationists and wildlife managers

Traditional process for making cowpea doughnuts: innovating to facilitate production and meet nutritional and sensory expectations

    No full text
This study was carried out as part of the ProPulse project "Towards sustainable intensification in WestAfrica through improved production and processing of pulses: promotion of innovations from farm to fork",funded by the Agropolis Foundation (project number: 2102-001).International audienceThe study focuses on the processing of cowpeas into Ata doughnuts in Benin, with the aim of improving the work of women processors. Traditionally, cowpeas are dehulled manually using water, a tedious and time-consuming step. Two innovative products have been developed using the dry method: partially dehulled cotyledons and flour made from these cotyledons. The use of these products, and in particular the flour, simplifies the doughnut-making process and reduces water consumption, but with higher material losses. Sensory tests and nutritional analyses show promising results, although adjustments are still needed, particularly to the alpha-galactoside content of the flour. These innovations are helping to improve processing methods and add value to local products, thereby supporting food security and the local economy

Facing Climate Change: How to Manage the Arising New Crises?

    No full text
International audienceThe increasing frequency and intensity of climate change-related disasters highlight the need to develop adaptive crisis management approaches. This paper explores the integration of R-IO Suite, a knowledge-based decision support system, with GAMA, a multi-agent simulation platform, to improve situational awareness and crisis response in a changing climate. This approach enables decision-makers and local communities to better understand, anticipate, and mitigate crisis impacts by combining real-time data modelling and predictive simulation. Although the proposed framework has been conceptually defined, its implementation and validation remain open key challenges. The French ANR-funded ATEsT project aims to overcome major technical obstacles— interoperability, semantic alignment, and temporal synchronisation—through concrete use cases. Future work will focus on implementing and testing this integration in realistic crisis scenarios, such as mega-fires and flash floods across different territories, to assess its effectiveness in improving decision-making processes and citizen engagement

    No full text
