Native Trees of the Mediterranean Region: Distribution, Diversity and Conservation Challenges
International audiencePurpose of Review While 38% of tree species are at risk of extinction worldwide, their inventory and occurrence at ecologically and biogeographically meaningful scales is lacking in many parts of the world, including the biodiversity-rich Mediterranean region. Here, we provide presence/absence, extinction risk, biogeography and genetic diversity data of trees in 39 climatically and ecologically Mediterranean territories (so-called “botanical territories”) in North Africa, Western Asia and Southern Europe.Recent FindingsThe inventory includes 496 species and 147 subspecies from 50 families and 111 genera, including 48 species and 8 subspecies previously not considered as trees. We show that native tree species distribution is highly skewed across the tree of life with a few species-rich families such as the Rosaceae and the majority with less than 1% of all species. Endemism was not evenly distributed among botanical territories and neither was extinction risk, an assessment of which was lacking in almost half of the species. While no geographic trends were detectable, species richness was found to be positively correlated with botanical territory area and, when standardized by area, with habitat heterogeneity. Information on genetic diversity was lacking in two thirds of the species inventoried and mostly focused on species with economic importance.SummaryOur data are open access and can be used by researchers and stakeholders for a wide range of purposes, including conservation and restoration. Our findings identified major native tree richness hotspots as well as key knowledge gaps and biases related to extinction risk and genetic diversity. Our findings also emphasize the importance of increased collaboration to support the conservation of Mediterranean forest trees
Mycotoxins in preharvest, postharvest, and stored wheat grains collected from two climatic regions in Algeria

Enniatins were present in 2 out of 45 wheat samples in the 2019 harvest, whereas in the harvest of 2020 37.6% of wheat samples were contaminated by ochratoxin A and/or beauvericin, deoxynivalenol (1076 µg/kg), fumonisin B1, enniatins, and zearalenone (most prevalent in 2020 and 2021 harvest). Mycotoxin contamination increased from 37.6% in 2020 to 55.2% in 2021 harvests. The most frequently observed mycotoxin co-occurrence was the combination of enniatin A1, enniatin B, and enniatin B1 (0.5–126 µg/kg) and DON (1307 µg/kg). AFB1 (0.4–2.6 µg/kg) was found in only one sample collected from the continental region. These results pointed to the necessity of frequent and regular wheat quality controls in order to better evaluate the risk regarding the Algerian population

Checklist of earthworm species Annelida, Oligochaetain Algeria
International audienceEarthworms are soil engineers that provide key functions and contribute to numerous ecosystem services including plant production. Little is known about the diversity, ecology, distribution and habitats of earthworm populations in Algeria. In this review article, all scientific studies on earthworms (Annelida, Oligochaeta) in Algeria were collected in order to provide a comprehensive inventory of knowledge on earthworm populations (i.e., occurrence, distribution and habitats) in the country. Among 24 studies and 346 earthworm sampling sites, a total of 40 earthworm species, 20 genera and 8 families (Lumbricidae, Acanthodrilidae, Criodrilidae, Glossoscolecidae, Haplotaxidae, Hormogastridae, Megascolecidae, Ocnerodrilidae) were recorded. The most frequently collected species were the endogeics Aporrectodea rosea and Aporrectodea caliginosa, with occurrences of 41% and 37%, respectively which could be misleading due to nomenclatorial issues. The species were mostly found in arable lands although listed in a wide range of habitats. Arable lands were the most frequently sampled habitats (19% of the samples) in Algeria followed by inland water borders (11%). This exhaustive review of the literature may be used as a basis for further monitoring studies of earthworm diversity and abundance under different land uses and climate zones in Algeria

Topological derivative for Kirchhoff-Love shells
We investigate the topological derivative for linear Kirchhoff-Love shells in the case of an inclusion with Young's modulus different from the background one. A general expression for the derivative is obtained in an abstract form, in the sense that the corresponding polarization tensor is theoretically characterized with the help of an auxiliary well-posed problem on the plane with fixed inclusion. For the special case of a circular inclusion located at an umbilical point on the shell, using symbolic computing tools, we obtain a closed-form polarization tensor. Its positive-definiteness, in relation with the stiffness contrast, is mathematically analyzed. Numerical examples are provided to verify the analytical expression of the topological derivative and illustrate its potential for shell optimization. Scenarios of material removal and reinforcement are considered

1 VOLUMELes fouilles archéologiques menées au 8 rue Docteur-Maret à Dijon, à proximité de la cathédrale Saint Bénigne, ont révélé une occupation stratifiée s'étendant du IXe au XXe siècle. Le site a livré des vestiges témoignant d'activités artisanales, de constructions abbatiales et d'aménagements urbains successifs. La phase la plus ancienne est marquée par la présence d'un atelier métallurgique, daté du IXe au XIIe siècle. Après l'abandon de l'atelier, une restructuration de l'espace a lieu. Cette phase, encore mal définie, pourrait correspondre à une période d'activité agropastorale. La période moderne voit la construction d'un logis abbatial dont la phase la plus récente est marquée par divers aménagements (cours, bâtiments, réseaux) et niveaux (rehaussement, nivellement, démolition, circulation) témoignant des phases de construction et de restructuration de la parcelle. Enfin, la période contemporaine (XIXe-XXIe siècles) est caractérisée par des niveaux de remblais, des rehaussements, des nivellements et des comblements liés à divers aménagements et constructions. Cette séquence stratigraphique récente est en grande partie liée à la construction d'abris pour deux roues. Un ancien bâtiment de la CPAM, aujourd'hui transformé en hôtel Mama Shelter, avait lui-même remplacé un bâtiment plus ancien, visible sur des photos d'archives de la ville de Dijon
