Livret de retranscription de la Journée d’études du 10 juin 2024This booklet is the result of the study day ‘Welcoming people to Marseille and its region: questions of hospitality’, held on 10 June 2024 at the Mucem (Marseille); supported by MIMED and organised by a scientific committee composed of researchers working in various AMU laboratories on migration issues, drawing on different disciplines (geography, sociology, anthropology). The aim of the day was to report on the different aspects of (in)hospitality in Marseille and its region and to highlight the solidarity shown in different areas of reception, with the aim of sharing observations, solutions and alternatives and establishing common perspectives. Faced with the lack of effective hospitality, reception and asylum, associations, collectives, local authorities, networks and solidarity groups are attempting to respond to recurring daily needs by mobilising individual and collective resources. The event was designed as a space for meeting and dialogue between different actors from Marseille and the Southern Region: associations, collectives, trade unions, professionals, political and technical representatives, and academics. The organising committee sought to promote a co-constructive approach to the day by involving participants from associations in the various stages of developing the round tables and their content, in order to highlight the knowledge and expertise rooted in the practices and daily experiences of the organisations involved in welcoming migrants. Linking the contributions of actors from different regions (Marseille, Avignon, Briançonnais) made it possible to decentralise and put these localised approaches into perspective.

Analyzing the miraculin content of Beninese Sisrè berries (Synsepalum dulcificum Schumach. & Thonn.) and exploring its thermal behavior

    No full text
International audienceThe pulp of the miracle fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum) has the ability to change the acidic taste of ingested foods into a sweet taste. This functionality is due to miraculin, a glycoprotein presents in the pulp of the fruit. Miraculin is low in calories and can be used for the development of stabilized natural sweetener for food. This study aimed to extract and quantify the miraculin level in the pulp of Sisrè (Synsepalum dulcificum) collected from various localities of Benin and explore its thermal behavior. The aim was to generate preliminary quantitative data on the termosensitivity of miraculin. The beninese miracle fruits were characterized by an average mass value of 0.9 g, a length of 1.66 cm and a thickness of 0.84 cm. In dry basis, the pulp represented 12.8 % of the fruit while the seed was preponderant representing 73.8 % of the fruit. Overall, the miracle fruits studied exhibited size and average mass 35 % lower than values reported in literature. Likewise, the pulp content is 33 % lower than those obtained in the literature. However, the miraculin concentration in the pulp was higher than those reported by other authors amounting to 4.8 g‧kg -1 DB. Heat treatments led to significant losses of miraculin. In the raw pulp (a w = 0.97), 70.5 % and 71.9 % of miraculin were lost after isothermal treatments for 5 min at 70 • C and 80 • C respectively. The intensity of degradation was slightly lower when the pulp was lyophilized up to a 0.31 a w with 66.8 % lost recorded at 70 • C (5 min). The findings highlight the potential of Beninese Sisrè as a natural sweetener, while also providing valuable insights for developing stabilization processes to obtain high-quality functional products.</div

Municipalities and intermunicipal bodies play a fundamental role in land use planning policies in France. As such, they strive to ensure a certain degree of control over land, which is considered a strategic territorial resource. In a society characterized by widespread private ownership, public land ownership appears to be a privileged instrument for implementing development operations in the public interest, such as the production of housing, particularly social housing, the creation of public facilities, and the fight against land artificialization. The effectiveness of this lever depends on the preservation, or even consolidation, of municipal land assets. However, the context of austerity and neoliberalism is forcing local authorities to reduce their spending and generate new revenue. They may therefore be tempted to sell off part of their assets in order to meet these financial imperatives, which would limit their ability to control development policy. The aim is to analyze how local authorities in France respond to this dilemma. It is based on an in-depth analysis of cadastral data, which records information on land ownership. These data offer a unique opportunity to gain an empirical understanding of municipal land ownership, but raise several methodological challenges in terms of the volume and uncertainty of the information. Its use requires significant enrichment in order to rigorously document the diversity of municipal land ownership, including certain specific forms of public or collective property. This thesis thus develops a three-pronged approach: theoretical, aiming to define what constitutes the “vacant land” that can be mobilized in development operations; a methodological approach to exploiting cadastral data, particularly with a view to spatio-temporal analysis of land ownership dynamics; and a thematic approach, highlighting the place of communal land ownership in the neoliberalization of development and planning. The results of this study call into question the assumption that communal land is disappearing and suggest instead that it is becoming consolidated. Privatization dynamics are indeed evident, but they generally correspond to the mobilization of land by municipalities to guide development operations, thus demonstrating their control over land rather than a loss of control.

Streetscape Analysis with Generative AI (SAGAI): Vision-language assessment and mapping of urban scenes

    No full text
International audienceStreetscapes are an essential component of urban space. Their assessment is presently either limited to morphometric properties of their mass skeleton or requires labor-intensive qualitative evaluations of visually perceived qualities. This paper introduces SAGAI: Streetscape Analysis with Generative Artificial Intelligence, a modular workflow for scoring street-level urban scenes using open-access data and vision-language models. SAGAI integrates OpenStreetMap geometries, Google Street View imagery, and a lightweight version of the LLaVA model to generate structured spatial indicators from images via customizable natural language prompts. The pipeline includes an automated mapping module that aggregates visual scores at both the point and street levels, enabling direct cartographic interpretation. It operates without task-specific training or proprietary software dependencies, supporting scalable and interpretable analysis of urban environments. Two exploratory case studies in Nice and Vienna illustrate SAGAI’s capacity to produce geospatial outputs from vision-language inference. The initial results show strong performance for binary urban–rural scene classification, moderate precision in commercial feature detection, and lower estimates, but still informative, of sidewalk width. Fully deployable by any user, SAGAI can be easily adapted to a wide range of urban research themes, such as walkability, safety, or urban design, through prompt modification alone

Exploring Liveability in Public Spaces of Deregulated Self-Organised Settlements Between Theories and Human Practices: Lessons from Rome's Borgate

    No full text
International audienceInformal urban expansion often produces deregulated, self-organised settlements that adapt to spatial constraints without formal planning. This study investigates liveability in Rome’s Borgate through a two-phase, theory-informed framework. Phase one applies morphological analysis (BSB method) to assess urban form and spatial connectivity. Phase two analyses pedestrian behaviour using ART ANOVA, logistic regression, and beta regression, linking interface conditions to patterns of use, time, and social engagement. Findings show that active ground-floor use and suitable adjacent public space significantly enhance pedestrian presence and interaction. The study affirms the dual role of the urban “skeleton” (networks) and “skin” (interfaces) in shaping liveability. Despite infrastructural deficits, these settlements demonstrate adaptive spatial practices relevant to planning strategies in both post-informal European settings and Global South contexts
