    No full text
This paper proposes to clarify the French Yellow Vests movement through the conceptual baggage of tensive and structural-generative semiotics. It is focused more precisely on the analysis of three key figures of the movement – the slogan, the vest, the traffic circle – to show how complex is the process of constitution of the political discourse of a collective actant in a democratic context. The article exposes the stages of this process by applying the deleuzian notions of “ritournelle” and “territorialisation” to reality. Through these key concepts, the aim is to illustrate the symbolic productivity of the social movement. We think that this productivity lies in a capacity to operate a claimed rupture with the traditional forms of the political and to articulate, in practice, continuities and discontinuities with regard to the wider cultural memory of political contestation

Un dialogo fra il Beato Angelico e Giulio Paolini

    No full text
The contribution focuses on the installation that Giulio Paolini created in 2022 inside the convent of San Marco in Florence. In a dormitory cell, frescoed by Fra Angelico between 1440 and 1442 with the Gospel scene of Noli me tangere, Paolini has placed one of his collages on a white easel. The work of the contemporary artist, which bears the same title as that of the great painter of the early Renaissance, thus enters into a refined relationship of dialogue and resonance that the analysis proposed here seeks to highlight step by step, using a methodology of semiotic investigation that calls for long periods of observation. Paolini’s Noli me tangere, based on the passionate state the artist feels in front of Angelico's fresco, thus becomes an invitation for the spectator himself to feel a similar sense of involvement and wonder

Tableaux tressés. Hubert Damisch, l’art et la topologie

    No full text
Only in recent years has art history begun to take an increased interest in questions of topology and the way topological knowledge is implemented in works of art. What has since been focused is the ways in which spatial relations are produced by the inter-relational assemblances of continuity and discontinuity, inside and outside, joining and separating, folding in and folding out etc. It is in this context that the text “Painting is truly threefold”, published by Hubert Damisch in 1983, has been re-examined and understood as a radical and prospective contribution to the debate of a topological art history. Building up on the juxtaposition of Euclidian and topological space, as described by Merleau-Ponty in Le visible et l´invisible, suivi de Notes de travail, Damisch’s text not only transfers this debate to the field of art, but establishes the woven image as a theoretical model that can be seen as a repressed alternative to the still leading paradigm of perspective
