Leren lezen. Godsdienstpedagogische richtingwijzers voor het lezen van de Bijbel met jongeren
Empirical research in secondary education discloses that students lack interest, and even resist, learning about the Bible because they experience the Bible as dull and it does not speak to their modern selves. This article describes directions towards a biblical pedagogy which aims at a hermeneutic in which students develop a responsible relationship to Scripture in which they recognize its relevance for their world. The essence of wisdom as taught by Proverbs and Job, and research in the teaching of literature form the basis for the guidelines of a pedagogy that addresses student resistance and lack of interest in reading the Bible
Eer en schaamte in het Nieuwe Testament. Implicaties voor het spreken over heil
The vast majority of societies worldwide are primarily shame cultures. Honour and shame, important values in the social dynamics of these societies, have also profoundly influenced New Testament writings. This has implications for the concept of salvation.First, I briefly introduce ‘shame culture’ as the bedrock of the New Testament. Second, I illuminate the gospel as a message of salvation from a shame perspective, illustrating this with data from the New Testament. Not only guilt, but rather sacred shame is animportant component of the human problem. Salvation in Christ is then interpreted not primarily as the satisfaction of a debt that arose after original sin, but as the removal of irreparable shame resulting from that same original sin
Theologisch-ethische reflecties op topsport
Modern-day sports, a multi-billion dollar industry, has not received a thorough theological reflection in the Dutch neo-Calvinist tradition. Both Abram Kuyper and Herman Bavinck criticized sports as they knew it. This article evaluates Bavinck’s critique in Paedagogische Beginselen and shows that Bavinck underestimates sports as spiritual human expression. That is, the practice of sports is not necessarily rough and uncivilized, but can also be beautiful and intelligent. Because contemporary sports exhibit many sinful patterns − doping, match-fixing, politics and power − this idolatry and dehumanization threaten a healthy sports practice. A Christian approach to the world of sports should not be naïve; critique, and perhaps avoidance, belong to such reflectio
