LEGITIMIDAD Y LIBERALISMO EN EL PENSAMIENTO DE F. A. HAYEK. UNA CRÍTICA
Get PDFThis article explores the role played by the legitimacy of liberal institutions (par excellence, the market economy) in Friedrich Hayek’s thought. Hayek pays significant attention to the issue of the market’s normative justification, but his advocacy for a ‘dogmatic’ defense of individual freedom is unable to account for the concrete experiences of individuals operating within the purview of the market, which are necessary for the generation of legitimacy. This paper then presents a possible solution to this problem found in the work of Jeremy Shearmur, but upon evaluation it is not found an appropriate response. Therefore, at least in these two dimensions of Hayekian thought there are significant limitations concerning the political conditions for the success of the liberal project, the acceptance of which on behalf of individuals is therefore argued to possess a structurally fragile character.Este artículo explora el papel que juega la legitimidad de las instituciones liberales (por antonomasia, la economía de mercado) en el pensamiento de Friedrich Hayek. El austríaco presta considerable atención al problema de la justificación normativa del mercado, pero su llamado a defender ‘dogmáticamente’ las libertades individuales no responde adecuadamente a las experiencias concretas de los individuos inmersos en el mercado, que son necesarias para generar legitimidad. Se presenta una posible solución a este problema en el trabajo de Jeremy Shearmur, pero se argumenta que ella no resulta satisfactoria. Así, al menos en estas dos dimensiones del pensamiento hayekiano se encuentran limitaciones importantes en relación con las condiciones políticas para el éxito del proyecto liberal, cuya aceptación entre los individuos, en consecuencia, poseería un carácter estructuralmente frágil

Get PDFEl objetivo del presente trabajo es reconstruir la trama de sentidos y disputas que una imagen generó en el marco del Noveno Encuentro Nacional de Plateros de Argentina, llevado a cabo de manera virtual en el año 2020. Para ello se aborda un caso que se inscribe en un contexto inédito de pandemia, que encontró en la virtualidad un canal de comunicación y acceso público más amplio y que incorporó elementos disruptivos, como una tanga y un cuchillo sobre un cuerpo masculino, en un evento tradicional de maestros (hombres) orfebres. Comprender la configuración de dicha trama posibilitó construir un espacio (este artículo) para analizar cómo un elemento disruptivo (la imagen en cuestión) puso en tensión un conjunto de principios estructurales y tradicionales que definieron históricamente una idea de patrimonio cultural en una ciudad de tipo intermedia del centro de la provincia de Buenos Aires. Metodológicamente, se trabajó con el análisis de los discursos que las personas manifestaron en la página de Facebook oficial del Museo Municipal Dámaso Arce de Olavarría, así como con las notas periodísticas y de opinión que se publicaron durante y después del encuentro.The objective of this work is to reconstruct the web of meanings and disputes that an image generated in the framework of the Ninth National Encounter of Silversmiths of Argentina, carried out virtually in 2020. For this, a case that is part of an unprecedented context of a pandemic, which found in virtuality a broader communication and public access channel and which incorporated disruptive elements, such as a thong and a knife on a male body, in a traditional event of masters (men) goldsmiths. Understanding the configuration of the said plot made it possible to build a space (this article) to analyze how a disruptive element (the image in question) put in tension a set of structural and traditional principles that historically defined an idea of cultural heritage in a city of an intermediate type from the centre of Buenos Aires province. Methodologically, it was worked with the analysis of the speeches that people made on the official Facebook page of the Dámaso Arce Municipal Museum of Olavarría, as well as with the journalistic and opinion notes that were published during and after the meeting
Dictatorial Hopelessness and Revolutionary Hope in Miguel Ángel Asturias’ El Señor Presidente
Get PDFEste trabajo explora la importancia que reviste el contraste entre desesperanza y esperanza en El Señor Presidente, de Miguel Ángel Asturias. Para ello, parte por abordar el primero de dichos afectos como una perniciosa emoción política que es inoculada por la dictadura problematizada en la novela con el fin de sumir a la población en la impotencia e impedir que surja la esperanza de una alternativa política democrática. Posteriormente, se plantea que la desesperanza está al servicio de contravenir los discursos que legitiman la autocracia del ominoso dictador, que se valida mediante la esperanzadora creencia de que, gracias a su conducción, el país progresa. Finalmente, el trabajo se complementa con la idea de que la desesperanza dictatorial también sirve para infundir en algunos corazones la esperanza revolucionaria. Se concluye que, por medio del contraste entre ambas emociones (la desesperanza y la esperanza), El Señor Presidente respalda los afectos y comportamientos políticos vinculados al proceso democrático impulsado en el marco de la llamada ‘Revolución de octubre’.This work explores the relevance of the contrast between hope and hopelessness in Miguel Ángel Asturias’ El Señor Presidente. In doing so, it starts by addressing hopelessness as a harmful political emotion that is inoculated by the dictatorship problematized within the novel in order to submerge the people into powerlessness and to prevent the hope of a democratic alternative to happen. Later, it is stated that hopelessness serves as a means of refuting the speeches that discredit the autocracy of the ominous dictator, who affirms himself through the hopeful belief that the country thrives because of his lead. Finally, the article supplements the idea that dictatorial hopelessness also works for inspiring a revolutionary hope in some hearts. It is concluded that, through contrast between hope and hopelessness, El Señor Presidente supports the emotions and behaviours related to the democratic process promoted within the frame of the Guatemalan Revolution
From mobilization to the convention: dynamics and strategies of socio-environmental organizations in the Chilean constituent process
Get PDFEl octubre chileno marcó un punto de inflexión en el devenir político del país, catalizando un proceso de cambio constitucional. En este contexto, la investigación analiza el rol que tienen los actores socioterritoriales en el posicionamiento de las demandas ambientales en el proceso constitucional, dando cuenta de su configuración y estrategias. Para hacer esto, el artículo analiza una muestra intencionada de organizaciones socioambientales desplegadas a lo largo del territorio nacional. Del mismo modo, se desarrolla una mirada teórica sobre las estrategias políticas de las organizaciones socioambientales y establece una estrategia metodológica mixta, combinando técnicas cuantitativas y cualitativas. Los resultados muestran que las organizaciones socioambientales mantienen ciertos elementos comunes respecto a las demandas ambientales que persiguen, pero difieren en la utilización de distintas estrategias de influencia sobre el proceso constituyente, tanto insider como outsider. El estudio contribuye a la discusión sobre la movilización ambiental en Chile, avanzando más allá de los estudios de caso, que son las perspectivas dominantes en este tipo de investigación, y a la vez retrata un proceso político en curso, por lo que puede aportar a la discusión pública actual.The social outburst in Chile generated a relevant milestone in the country's political system, since it catalyzed a process of constitutional change. In this context, the research analyzes the role of socio-territorial actors in the positioning of environmental demands in the constitutional process. In addition, the configuration and strategies of environmental organizations are established. To do this, the article analyzes an intentional sample of socio-environmental organizations deployed throughout the national territory. In the same way, a theoretical perspective is developed on the political strategies of social-environmental organizations and establishes a mixed methodological strategy, combining quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results show that socio-environmental organizations maintain certain common elements regarding the environmental demands they pursue, yet differ in the use of different strategies to influence the constituent process, both insider and outsider. The study contributes to the discussion on environmental mobilization in Chile, moving beyond the case studies, which are the dominant perspectives in this type of research; and at the same time, it portrays an ongoing political process, thus contributing to the current public discussion

Get PDFThe great reception of poststructuralism in the late 20th century by the intellectual field instilled a terrible fear of essentialism and offered representation, language, speech, hermeneutics, sense and significance as ways of fighting it. The 21st century has witnessed a speculative turn that is willing to dispute the hegemony of the linguistic turn. This work intends to briefly present various conceptual tools that mark the limits of representation ?the ominous, the abject, the positive difference, agency and drive. All of them redirect us to the notion of radical alterity as an attempt to figure the affective force that escapes the possiblity of being shaped and tamed by language. Bill Brandt contributes the vertebral axis of our proposed path, since his photographs –and visual arts in general– hold a privileged position when it comes to arousing affectations originating from the power of that which in its presentation is impossible to be represented.La enorme recepción del posestructuralismo a finales del siglo XX en el ámbito intelectual implantó un acuciante temor hacia el esencialismo y ofreció la representación, el lenguaje, el discurso, la hermenéutica, el sentido y la significación como vías para combatirlo. El siglo XXI ha sido testigo de un giro especulativo dispuesto a disputar la hegemonía del giro lingüístico. Este trabajo se propone presentar, brevemente, algunas herramientas conceptuales que señalan los límites de la representación ?lo ominoso, lo abyecto, la diferencia positiva, la agencia y la pulsión?. Todas ellas nos reconducen hacia la noción de alteridad radical como un intento de figurar aquella fuerza afectiva que escapa a la posibilidad de ser modelada y domeñada por el lenguaje. Representation of the apocalyptic city in CLAMP manga X
Get PDFEn este artículo se parte del argumento de que en el manga X —creado por el colectivo CLAMP en 1992, publicado en México entre 2003 y 2005 por el Grupo Editorial Vid— la representación visual de Tokio en desastre tiene concordancia con una estética posmoderna que se vale de dos elementos entremezclados: referentes religiosos y la cultura visual del desastre propia de Japón. Este trabajo propone un análisis de la imagen inserto en el paradigma inductivo de inferencias indiciales elaborado por Carlo Ginzburg y Geovanni Levi y está sustentado en las siguientes categorías teóricas: la imagen de la ciudad, de Kevin Lynch, la cultura visual del desastre japonés, de Gennifer Weisenfeld, y la teoría de la posmodernidad formulada por Gianni Vattimo. Se infiere como resultado que en la construcción de la ciudad apocalíptica de este manga se observa la puja entre elementos tradicionales y modernos, que se mezclan a partir de puntos de convergencia, para finalizar con el triunfo de lo religioso y la caída de la estructura moderna.In this article, we start from the argument that in manga X, created by the CLAMP collective in 1992, and published in Mexico between 2003 and 2005 by Editorial Vid, the visual representation of Tokyo in disaster corresponds to a postmodern aesthetic that uses two elements and mixes them: religious references and the visual culture of the Japanese disaster. Our work is an analysis of the image that is inserted in the inductive paradigm of indexical inferences proposed by Carlo Ginzburg and Geovanni Levi and is based on the following theoretical categories: Kevin Lynch’s image of the city, Gennifer Weisenfeld’s visual culture of Japanese disaster, and Gianni Vattimo’s theory of postmodernity. As a result, it is inferred that in the construction of the apocalyptic city of this manga, the struggle between traditional and modern elements is observed, which are mixed from points of convergence, to end with the triumph of the religious and the fall of the modern structure
