Reflections of future kindergarten teachers on the design of didactic sequences with the use of robots
The purpose of this study is to analyze the reflections of future kindergarten teachers when designing didactic sequences with the use of the bee-bot robot. A qualitative methodological design was followed to achieve this objective, collecting the data through a written record prepared by the participants from collaborative work. A total of 25 future teachers participated, forming six working groups. The data were analyzed with the content analysis technique, considering the criteria of didactic suitability–epistemic, cognitive, interactional, mediational, affective, and ecological–and their respective components. The results suggest that at the moment prior to the design of the didactic sequences, the reflections of the groups of future teachers are related only to some criteria, while, in the design of the proposed teaching and learning process, the units of analysis were related to all six criteria. With the results obtained, it is concluded that a future implementation and observation of the design of didactic sequences by the participants would allow the participants to consider more components of the criteria when reflecting. In addition, it is concluded that training that contemplates the criteria of didactic suitability, would also allow future teachers to deepen their reflections, guiding them with these tools. This study was supported by the research projects in teachertraining: Fondecyt Research Project N_11190547, PGC2018-098603-B-I00 (MINECO/FEDER, EU); ANID PAI77200008; competences and knowledge of the primary and secondary teacher for the teaching of mathematics in hybrid modality (SENACYT/FIED21-002).
Introduction: Craniofacial growth and development is a complex multifactorial phenomenon in which all cephalic structures originate, develop and organize in mutual balance. The masticatory system is very complex, it is comprised of muscles, bones, ligaments and teeth, this is how the correct relationship of these elements is essential for proper functioning and integration. In the different skeletal classes, various characteristics, both dental and skeletal segments, have been reported. On the other hand, rotational types or different facial biotypes, which correspond to the morphological and functional characteristics that determine the direction of growth and functional behavior of the craniofacial mass of an individual. Thus, it is essential to understand that dentoalveolar compensations aim to achieve relationships considered normal between dental and alveolar arches.
Materials and methods: A total of 309 profile teleradiographies of skeletal class II patients from the National Institute of Orthodontics (INO) were reviewed. The total universe was 1562 patients and the N-ME, NA-NB, S-PO, IMPA and ISP angles were analyzed.
Results: In the present study, we found 19 patients with a Brachifacial rotational type corresponding to 6.1%, 63 patients with a mesofacial rotational type corresponding to 20.4%, and finally, 227 patients with a dolichofacial rotational type corresponding to 73.5%, the latter being the most prevalent.
The male sex obtained a higher prevalence for the dolichofacial rotational type with 81.4% of the total sample corresponding to the male sex, compared to the female sex, which obtained a prevalence of 68.9% of the total sample corresponding to the female sex.
There was no type of compensation in the 3 rotational types according to the results obtained by the IS-PP angle.
For the IMPA angle, it was found that patients with the dolichofacial rotational type obtained significant differences, protruding the lower incisors, thus generating a type of dentoalveolar compensation.
No type of association was found between the combination of variables sex and rotational type in the present study.
Conclusion: Among the skeletal class II patients, the main biotype found was
dolichofacial with a higher prevalence associated with the male sex. As
compensation found, a greater tendency to protrude the lower incisors was obtained only for the dolichofacial rotational type. For the other rotational types, no type of dentoalveolar compensation was found that could be generated within the variables studied

Spaltung.

Improvement in the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio after combined FOLFOX chemotherapy for stage III colon cancer is associated with improved minimal resdiual disease and outcome
Introduction: Minimal residual disease (MRD) is the net result of the biological properties of disseminated tumour cells and the effect of the immune system and treatment to eliminate them. The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of combined chemotherapy on the immune function as determined by the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and if it was associated with changes in the subtype of minimal residual disease and outcome in stage III colon cancer. Methods and Patients: A prospective, single centre observational study; the NLR was determined immediately prior to and one, two and three months after completing chemotherapy. Circulating tumour cells (CTCs) and bone marrow micro-metastasis (mM) using immunocytochemistry with anti-CEA were determined prior to and one month after chemotherapy. The association of changes in the NLR with MRD subtypes classified as Group I (negative for CTCs and mM), Group II (positive for mM) and Group III (positive for CTCs) as a result of chemotherapy and five-year disease free progression (DFS) analysed. Results: One hundred and eighty eight patients participated of whom 83 (44.9%) relapsed. In non-relapsing patients the NLR significantly increased and was higher after chemotherapy compared with relapsing patients. Significant increases in the NLR were associated with changes to a better MRD prognostic subtype and decreases with a worse MRD subtype. Neither baseline NLR nor MRD subtype predicted response to chemotherapy. DFS for MRD subgroups were 88%, 56% and 6% for Groups I to III respectively. Conclusions: Immune function as measured by the NLR is associated with MRD prognostic subtypes, improvements in the NLR are associated with improvements in MRD post chemotherapy but neither baseline NLR or MRD predicted outcome
Effect of supervised resistance training on arm volume, quality of life and physical perfomance among women at high risk for breast cancer-related Lymphedema: A study protocol for a randomized controlled Trial (STRONG-B)
Objectives: To determine the preventive effects of supervised resistance training on arms volume, quality of life, physical performance, and handgrip strength in Chilean women at high risk for breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) undergoing chemotherapy. Design: Randomized control trial. Participants: One hundred and six women at high risk for breast cancer-related lymphedema aged 18 to 70 years. Interventions: Participants will be randomized into two groups: [a] intervention, who will receive 12 weeks of supervised resistance training (STRONG-B) during adjuvant chemotherapy; and [b] control, who will receive education to promote lymphatic and venous return, maintain range of motion, and promote physical activity. Main Outcome Measures: The primary outcome will be arms volume measured with an optoelectric device (perometer NT1000). Secondary outcomes will be quality of life, handgrip strength, and physical performance. Primary and secondary outcomes will be measured at baseline, just after the intervention, and 3 and 6 months after. Statistical analysis will be performed following intention-to-treat and per-protocol approaches. The treatment effect will be calculated using linear mixed models. Discussion: The STRONG-B will be a tailored supervised resistance training that attempts to prevent or mitigate BCRL in a population that, due to both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, will commonly suffer from BCRL
More than words: an integrated framework for exploring gestures’ role in bilinguals’ use of two languages for making mathematical meaning
Gestures play a role in perception, production, and comprehension of language and have been shown to difer cross-linguistically and cross-culturally in aspects of performance and form-meaning relationships. Furthermore, gestures can serve as analytical tools to access tacit embodied-imagistic mathematical meanings that add to verbal-linguistic dimensions of meaning. At the same time, language plays important roles in interaction and cognition, infuencing bilinguals’ learning of mathematics. Still, there is only very little research attending to the use of gestures of multilinguals as means to better understand the relationships between their language use and their mathematical thinking. This paper builds on research on multilingualism and on gestures—related and unrelated to mathematics education—to motivate and develop a framework for understanding better mathematics thinking and learning of multilinguals through integrating gesture analysis as related to languages, culture, and the use of registers. The application of this framework will be illustrated through two case studies in which we analyse interview data of a bilingual student and a bilingual mathematics teacher—focusing on gestures and language use while talking about the mathematical concept of ‘power’—or exponents—in Farsi (Persian) and in English. From analyzing the gestures’ form-meaning relations and their functions as related to hybrid language practices, we hypothesize on the vernacular and mathematical context as activated in both speech and gesture and on how it relates to mathematical meaning. From this, we draw practical implications for multilingual mathematical learning contexts and discuss implications for research on multilinguals’ mathematical thinking and learning
Increasing immune dysfunction is associated with increasing matrix-metalloproteinase-2 expression and predicts biochemical failure in men with bone marrow micro-metastasis positive localized prostate cancer
Introduction: To determine if there was an association of the ALC (absolute lymphocyte count) and LCP (lymphocytopenia) with the expression of MMP-2 in bone marrow micro-metastasis, the changes occurring during follow-up and association with biochemical failure. Methods and patients: One month after surgery blood and bone marrow samples were taken to determine the presence of micro-metastasis, the presence of circulating prostate cells (CPCs) and ALC. CPCs and micro-metastasis were detected using immunocytochemistry and MMP-2 expression determined in micrometastasis. Only men positive for micro-metastasis participated in the study. At end follow blood was taken for serum PSA, ALC and CPCs, if the ALC decreased by more than 10% bone marrow sampling was repeated and MMP-2 expression determined, similarly for men with BF. Men who had stable ALCs had an end of study evaluation of the bone marrow. Results: 402 men underwent radical prostatectomy, one month post surgery 79 men were positive for only bone marrow micro-metastasis and formed the study group; of whom 36/79 (45%) underwent BF. Clinical pathological findings were not significantly different between men with or without BF. In men with BF the ALC was significantly lower one-month post surgery. The 5 and 10 year Kaplan-Meier survival was 100% at 5-years and 65% at 10-years for the whole cohort. Men without BF had stable ALCs. A decrease of >10% in the ALC was associated with increasing MMP-2 expression in the micro-metastasis and surrounding stromal tissue, the appearance of CPCs 6-12 months later and BF. Conclusions: the immune host-tumour cell interaction in the microenvironment is dynamic and changes with time. A decreasing ALC may be a valuable marker in identifying men with high risk of BF and changes in immune mediated dormancy before the PSA rises
