A dataset of the abundance of Ixodes spp. ticks in forests of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region (France)

    No full text
International audienceIn Europe, Ixodes ticks are major vectors for both human and livestock pathogens, with the most widespread species, Ixodes ricinus, being responsible for the transmission of the pathogenic agent of Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato. The disease is endemic in France, where the number of new human cases per year was estimated at 39,052 in 2023. I. ricinus is widely distributed in France, particularly in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, where its abundance is not always well known. Often, estimation of questing tick abundance is based on a single observation from several sites; moreover, depending on sampling conditions, the efficiency of sampling with cloth dragging is variable, but is generally low. Even when standardised protocols are used, abundance indicators and sampling rates are influenced by various factors including population dynamics, ground vegetation, soil layers and meteorology. One approach that can be employed to account for the impact of these factors on variations in sampling rate is the use of removalsamplings, i.e. several successive samplings

    No full text

    No full text
International audienceBased on fieldwork conducted with thirty-four individuals marginalized due to their sexual orientation and residing in Saint-Denis—a working-class suburb of Paris—this article examines the residential trajectories and sociological motivations behind their choice of location. It focuses on how these dynamics challenge and ultimately reinscribe the center-periphery dichotomy, a persistent framework in studies of sexual and gender minorities. The study documents how, far from being dismantled by residential mobility from the city center to the suburbs, this dichotomy is reasserted across multiple scales—regional, local, and micro-local—in the narratives of respondents. While they do relocate to the suburbs, their choices are highly selective: they opt for gentrified towns and neighborhoods, while avoiding areas perceived as ‘too working-class’, particularly those near public housing estates. This spatial segregation reflects a constrained re-composition of where sexual and gender minorities settle within the Paris metropolitan area. Ultimately, the article explores how gentrification dynamics contribute to reshaping symbolic boundaries—in this case, those separating Paris from its suburbs. These processes lead to a partially coerced redistribution of sexual and gender minorities across the region, while simultaneously reinforcing power relations between social groups based on their presumed acceptance of such minorities.

Networks of Networks in 6G: A Key Enabler for Mission-Critical Applications

    No full text
International audienceThe railway industry is rapidly transitioning toward full automation and enhanced safety, driven by the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and revitalize secondary lines. While 5G promises improved latency, reliability, and throughput, its high deployment costs and limited coverage hinder universal adoption. Emerging research advocates the transition to 6G, supported by a vision of Networks of Networks that would allow the transparent use of different access networks (e.g. satellite, IoT). This paper extends that paradigm by introducing a broader vision centred on multi-operator resource federation, hybrid classical/quantum communications, and distributed artificial intelligence. We propose a five-layer architecture that integrates these pillars by federating infrastructure across operators for seamless coverage and combining quantum-secure channels with conventional links for robust security. Additionally, our design leverages federated artificial intelligence at the edge for real-time decision-making. Finally, we outline the primary technical challenges and research directions necessary to realize resilient, adaptive, and secure railway connectivity in the 6G era

Topology Optimization of Isolated Response Curves in 3D Geometrically-nonlinear Beam

International audienceTopology optimisation is a powerful tool for designing efficient and light structures. However, classical topology optimisation methods (SIMP, LSF), which are gradient-based, are not adapted to deal with nonlinear vibrations in the context of geometrical nonlinearities as the simulation of such systems is computationally expensive, and the strong nonlinearbehaviour makes the objective function non-convex with many local minima. The present work investigates the potential of using global optimisation methods to topology optimise those structures. To provide more robust nonlinear features in the optimisation, the bifurcations are directly tracked and optimised. The strategy is applied to a 3D finite element model of a bea

Impact types and approaches in assessing research impact: from a scoping review to a comprehensive framework

    No full text
International audienceAbstract This paper reports on a comprehensive scoping review of 822 articles that analyse the academic and/or non-academic impact of research through established or newly proposed frameworks and tools. It examines how research impact is conceived, approached, and assessed, and to what extent impact assessments and approaches differ across various fields. The results confirm the increasing interest in assessing research impact, the dominance of countries with established frameworks and official evaluation structures (such as the USA, the UK, and Australia), and the prevalent focus on social sciences and humanities and health sciences. Quantitative analysis stands out in analysing academic impact, while qualitative analysis is used mainly for non-academic impact. Outcome-focused approaches dominate in both types of impact; however, process-focused approaches are also adopted in the assessment of non-academic impact. Through analysis of the activities and indicators associated with these different approaches and views of impact, we develop and illustrate a framework that brings together the dimensions of impact types (academic and non-academic) and approaches (outcome-focused and process-focused) to assist researchers and institutions in their impact assessment processes

Improvement and suitability of analytical method for the detection of tire and road wear particles markers in low-concentration sediment and soil matrices

    No full text
International audienceTire and road wear particles (TRWP) are formed by the friction between the tire and road. Despite being a massive, global and emerging pollution, their quantification and tracing are currently uncertain in environments far from roads due to a lack of optimized approaches. Pyrolysis coupled with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS) is a central technique in environmental research devoted to the TRWP topic. Herein, we present a more sensitive and selective approach based on the Py-GC-MS technique for detecting and quantifying TRWP in matrices far from emission sources. This approach involves sample purification and analytical optimization steps focused on: i) preliminarily removing interfering organic compounds from samples, ii) choosing the most selective markers to improve peak resolution in chromatograms and iii) improving the recovery rates (up to 100–108 %) for selected elastomers (SBR and NR). The markers that are identified for reliably quantifying elastomers in low-concentration matrices far from sources are 4-phenylcyclohexene for styrene butadiene rubber and dimethylvinylcyclohexene for natural rubber. Using internal standards for calibration and acquiring data in single ion monitoring mode allowed us to achieve limits of detection as low as 7.7 µg/g for SBR and 3.8 µg/g for NR. Finally, we evaluated the performance obtained by comparing the SBR and NR contents of low-concentration soils and sediments using our optimized Py-GC-MS technique and the Py-GC tandem mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS/MS)
