    Bovine digital dermatitis (DD) is an infectious claw disease with a negative impact on animal welfare and production. Treponema spp. is the main causative agent, and infected animals produce specific antibodies. Our aim was to estimate sensitivity (Se) and specificity (Sp) of two ELISA research tests, Medicago’s ELISA test and GD Animal Health’s in-house ELISA test, for detection of DD-associated Treponema antibodies in bulk tank milk (BTM). We used BTM samples form 154 Norwegian dairy cattle herds, 96 from an expected high and 58 from a low prevalence region. Both tests were evaluated separately against herd-level (aggregated) claw trimming records extracted from the Norwegian Dairy Herd Recording System using latent class models in a Bayesian analysis. Cut-off values were selected using an explorative approach, and both non-informative priors for all parameters and informative beta priors for distribution of Se and Sp of claw trimming were explored

    Collated experimental data associated with the publication "Liposomal delivery of antibiotic loaded nucleic acid nanogels with enhanced drug loading and synergistic anti-inflammatory activity against S. aureus intracellular infections" in Journal of Controlled Release Volume 324, Pages 620-632. The persistence of Staphylococcus aureus has been accredited to its ability to escape immune response via host cell invasion. Despite the efficacy of many antibiotics against S. aureus, the high extracellular concentrations of conventional antibiotics required for bactericidal activity is limited by their low cellular accumulation and poor intracellular retention. While nanocarriers have received tremendous attention for antibiotic delivery against persistent pathogens, they suffer daunting challenges such as low drug loading, poor retention and untimely release of hydrophilic cargos. Here, a hybrid system (Van_DNL) is fabricated wherein nucleic acid nanogels are caged within a liposomal vesicle for antibiotic delivery. The central principle of this approach relies on exploiting non-covalent electrostatic interactions between cationic cargos and polyanionic DNA to immobilize antibiotics and enable precise temporal release against intracellular S. aureus. In vitro characterization of Van_DNL revealed a stable homogenous formulation with circular morphology and enhanced vancomycin loading efficiency. The hybrid system significantly sustained the release of vancomycin over 24 h compared to liposomal or nanogel controls. Under enzymatic conditions relevant to S. aureus infections, lipase triggered release of vancomycin was observed from the hybrid. While using Van_DNL to treat S. aureus infected macrophages, a dose dependent reduction in intracellular bacterial load was observed over 24 h and exposure to Van_DNL for 48 h caused negligible cellular toxicity. Pre-treatment of macrophages with the antimicrobial hybrid resulted in a strong anti-inflammatory activity in synergy with vancomycin following endotoxin stimulation. Conceptually, these findings highlight these hybrids as a unique and universal platform for synergistic antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory therapy against persistent infections

    These data belong to the comprehensive study of polyphenols in Laminaria hyperborea, Laminaria digitata, Saccharina latissima, Ascophyllum nodosum and Fucus vesiculosus performed in relation with the publication titled: "Advancing Quantification methods for Polyphenols in Brown Seaweeds - applying a Selective qNMR Method compared with the TPC Assay". The dataset contains 22 files, describing the quantitative content of polyphenols in the brown seaweeds Laminaria hyperborea, Laminaria digitata, Saccharina latissima, Ascophyllum nodosum and Fucus vesiculosus. The quantitative content was determined by Optimized Total Phenolic Content (TPC) assay and quantitative NMR (qNMR).Publication abstract: Polyphenols are important components of seaweeds contributing to their potential use in food-, feed- and health applications. In this study, optimized methods of the Folin-Ciocalteu total phenolic content assay (TPC) and selective quantitative 1H NMR (qNMR), including 13C NMR characterization, were compared for selected brown seaweeds from sublittoral to intertidal zone (Laminaria hyperborea, Laminaria digitata, and Fucus vesiculosus). TPC and selective qNMR resulted in comparable quantities for the sublittoral growing Laminariaceae, with lower polyphenolic content (TPC: 0.6–0.7%; qNMR: 0.7–0.8%, GAE, DW). F. vesiculosus, found in more shallow waters with a higher polyphenolic production, yields a TPC quantification more than double the qNMR quantification (TPC: 3.7%; qNMR: 1.5% GAE, DW). This difference most likely reflects the lack of sensitivity in the TPC assay concerning species with interfering compounds and/or a higher polyphenolic content, and conceivably also a higher diversity of polyphenols (> 1 % of biomass). From the 13C NMR characterization, L. hyperborea, L. digitata, and F. vesiculosus all showed a larger proportion of phlorethol-like phlorotannins compared to fucol-type phlorotannins

Investigating gender representations of readers and listeners in Norwegian, Finnish, and French”. This project was funded by the Norwegian Research Council (reference number FRIPRO 240881). It is intended as a descriptive reference for how this task was approached, and not a prescriptive reference of how it must be done.     DATASET MIGRATED FROM FIGSHARE: As a part of a school vision testing program, the children completed an online questionnaire about general and ocular health, socioeconomic status, academic ambition, near work and related symptoms, upper body musculoskeletal pain, and physical and outdoor activities. Data file: Data from 192 Norwegian school children aged 10–11 and 15–16 years. Abstract  Background Lifestyle behaviour in children and adolescents has become increasingly sedentary and occupied with digital work. Concurrently, there has been an increase in the prevalence of headache, neck- and low back pain, which are leading causes of disability globally. Extensive near work and use of digital devices are demanding for both the visual system and the upper body head-stabilizing musculature. Uncorrected vision problems are present in up to 40% of Nordic school children, and a lack of corrective eye wear may cause eyestrain, musculoskeletal pain and headache. The aim of this study was to investigate associations between laboured reading, musculoskeletal pain, uncorrected vision, and lifestyle behaviours in children and adolescents. Methods This was a cross-sectional study with a total of 192 Norwegian school children aged 10–11 and 15–16 years. As a part of a school vision testing program, the children completed an online questionnaire about general and ocular health, socioeconomic status, academic ambition, near work and related symptoms, upper body musculoskeletal pain, and physical and outdoor activities. Results The 15–16-year-olds had a more indoor, sedentary, digital-based lifestyle with higher academic demands, compared with the 10–11-year-olds. Concurrently, reading became more laboured and upper body musculoskeletal pain increased with age. Girls reported more symptoms, higher academic ambitions, and more time spent on schoolwork and reading, compared with boys. Non-compliance in wearing prescribed eye wear (glasses or contact lenses), increased use of near digital devices, and experiencing visual stress (glare) were positively associated with laboured reading and upper body musculoskeletal pain. Conclusions A screen-based lifestyle with high academic demands challenges the ability to sustain long hours of static, intensive near work. Extensive near work tires the visual system and upper body musculature and provokes laboured reading and musculoskeletal pain symptoms. This study emphasizes the importance of regular eye examinations in school children, and the need to raise awareness among children, parents, and school- and health personnel about the importance of optimal vision and visual environment for academic performance and health. </p

In the paper, we studied the habitat selection in hazel dormouse at two spatial scales and investigated differences in individuals' habitat selection within home ranges.  Abstract In fragmented forest landscapes, population persistence of arboreal species with limited dispersal ability may strongly depend on the quality of the remaining forest habitat. Using the hazel dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) as a model species, we studied habitat selection at two spatial scales (home range and within home range) in intensely managed woodlands at its northern distributional range in Denmark. We modelled selection at home range level as the conditional probability of occupancy of 588 nest boxes and nest tubes in 15 managed forests relative to habitat variables measured within 25 m radius. Habitat selection within home ranges was modelled by comparing habitat variables within 3 m radius of triangulated locations by 19 radio-tracked individuals (12 M, 7 F) when active at night with regularly distributed available locations within their home ranges. At both spatial scales, hazel dormice strongly selected sites with high abundance-weighted species richness and high vegetation density of woody plants. On home range level, they furthermore selected for young tree vegetation, while they within home ranges selected for intermediate aged tree stands (maximum trunk circumference: 1.50 m). The predicted probability of presence in nest boxes or nest tubes varied from less than 1% to more than 99% as a combined function of three habitat variables. From May to October, selection for abundance-weighted species richness of woody plants of radio-tagged individuals decreased with date and body weight, suggesting that a diverse food base is particularly important early in their season of activity and for lean and small (growing) individuals. Selection for dense vegetation increased with body mass and mean available vegetation density within home ranges, indicating behavioural variability related to changes in energy expenditure and need for safety among individuals. The study demonstrates that the hazel dormouse has specific habitat requirements related to food and safety that can be accommodated with relatively simple means in managed forests.</p

    DATASET MIGRATED FROM FIGSHARE: Experimental work on hydrogen safety. Ignited hydrogen releases in semi confined space like carparks.The study of hydrogen releases from high-pressure storage systems is important for practical applications for 1) hydrogen driving vehicles: technology and safety, and 2) validation of computational fluid dynamic models. The focus of this paper is on accidental releases that occur due to for example a failure of the TPRD (thermal pressure-activated relief device) with immediate ignition. The physics and dynamics of such releases have to be understood and the importance of the resulted effects needs to be implemented into the development of RCS (regulations, codes, and standards) and mitigation systems. In this paper the real scale experimental results are presented. Releases from the hydrogen tank with storage pressure 350 and 700 bar through 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm diameter into a container with an installed forced ventilation system are presented. The thermal effects resulting from a different angle of the TPRD exhaust pipe were tested. The resulting hydrogen jet fires showed direct dependence on the mass flow rates. Higher mass flow rates resulted from the bigger TPRD diameter or higher storage pressure caused higher temperatures in the ventilation pipe and in the container. A more detailed analysis of the thermal consequences related to TPRD size, storage pressure, and ventilation rate is presented. Results from all the experiments showed temperatures below specified in the regulations, 300 °C, in the ventilation pipe. Low temperatures measured at the front of the car and high temperatures behind will be used for the mitigation strategies and first response guidance. Generally decreasing TPRD diameter to 0.5 mm decreased max temperature behind the car from 500 °C to 250 °C from the same storage pressure, and decreasing harm distance.</div
