    Student interviews on learning strategies and digitalization

    This dataset contains transcripted interviews conducted to investigate the students' experiences and reflections related to the learning strategy intervention that was implemented in the course and related to the digitalization of the course in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The participants were 12 students in an introductory mechanics course with approx. 150 students enrolled. The semi-structured interviews were based on an interview guide, which is attached to the dataset, and were conducted by Stein Dankert Kolstø.     [article abstract:] This paper uses computational experiments to explore the role of exposure in the emergence of construction grammars. While usage-based grammars are hypothesized to depend on a learner’s exposure to actual language use, the mechanisms of such exposure have only been studied in a few constructions in isolation. This paper experiments with (i) the growth rate of the constructicon, (ii) the convergence rate of grammars exposed to independent registers, and (iii) the rate at which constructions are forgotten when they have not been recently observed. These experiments show that the lexicon grows more quickly than the grammar and that the growth rate of the grammar is not dependent on the growth rate of the lexicon. At the same time, register-specific grammars converge onto more similar constructions as the amount of exposure increases. This means that the influence of specific registers becomes less important as exposure increases. Finally, the rate at which constructions are forgotten when they have not been recently observed mirrors the growth rate of the constructicon. This paper thus presents a computational model of usage-based grammar that includes both the emergence and the unentrenchment of constructions.     The dataset stems from a field trial of 14 Norwegian pig herds, in a case/control study of respiratory disease outbreaks. In seven herds with reported outbreaks of acute respiratory disease, data on clinical signs was recorded and samples for laboratory examination were collected. Diagnostic protocols were compared by parallel analysis of clinically healthy pigs from seven non-outbreak herds. Data was collected through diagnostic sampling of pigs, including serum samples, oral fluid samples and bacteriology following autopsy of respiratory organs. Epidemiological data was collected through farmer interviews and on farm registration. Data regarding biosecurity on farm was collected by the use of a standardized protocol for biosecurity scoring, the biocheck.Ugent. Additionally, production data and disease registration at slaughter has been collected through slaughterhouse reports from the individual farms.</p

    [Dataset abstract] This is the data and code from a multifactorial study reviewing the determinants of particle alternation after uninflected try in native varieties of English. The effects of a number of previously discussed and novel predictors (see Section 3.1 of the paper) are probed in data from well-known corpora (ICE, GloWbE, BNC and COCA). The paper is published in English Language and Linguistics (https://www.doi.org/10.1017/S1360674321000393). I used R (R Core Team 2021) for all data analyses, hence the code can best be replicated in R.[Article abstract] This multifactorial study reviews the determinants of particle alternation after uninflected try in varieties where English is native. The effects of a number of previously discussed and novel predictors are probed in data from well-known corpora. The results confirm the inclinations of North American varieties (try to) in contrast with those of the Australasian, British and Irish varieties (try and in speech but try to in writing). The previously reported general effects of the tense of try, mode and horror aequi are also corroborated. As regards the effect of register, the study contributes the finding that following Latin-based infinitives favor try to in most varieties, especially in writing. The paper discusses the status of the substantiated effects with respect to the notions of conventionalization and entrenchment: crucially, the higher degree of conventionalization of try to in North American varieties (a) makes the use of this variant less conditional on the sequential need to license euphony and (b) neutralizes the general contextual/register distinction for the alternation. From a usage-based viewpoint, the findings suggest that the higher frequency of a multiword sequence in a specific variety, and the higher degree of activation in the language users’ minds, can make it less contingent on general probabilistic constraints

    The dataset contains individual diploid genotypes for 11 microsatellite markers screened in 21 population samples of the seaweed Saccharina latissima along the coast of Norway between August 2016 and June 2018. Going with the flow – population genetics of the kelp Saccharina latissima (Phaeophyceae, Laminariales) in Norway. Frontiers in Marine Science (submitted for review). Article abstract: Saccharina latissima is the most important habitat-forming kelp in sheltered areas of North-Atlantic, and there is also an increasing interest in cultivation and utilization of S. latissima. The cultivation activity may introduce a risk of “crop-to-wild” gene flow from the cultivated crops to natural populations. A baseline study to examine genetic structure and gene flow in S. latissima along the Norwegian coast was therefore done. Microsatellite analyses was carried out on samples from 21 stations, where 12 were in the coastal area from outer Oslofjord in the south to Porsanger in North-Norway, and 9 in the two longest fjords of Norway, Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord. In addition, a hydrographical model was applied, simulating the direction and potential rate of spore dispersal along the coast during the main period of spore release. The results showed a clear isolation by distance pattern along the coast, good connectivity and little genetic structure, except for a reduced connectivity between South- and North-Norway, probably due to the Lofoten archipelago representing a partial barrier for the northward dispersal of spores. In addition, indications of reduced connectivity between coastal stations and the innermost fjord stations were found. Analysing the material with and without one locus potentially under positive selection suggests some degree of genetic adaptation of sugar kelp populations in the Skagerrak area and in the two fjords. The results suggest that genetic connectivity between populations on the coast is strongly influenced by the Norwegian Coastal current. </p

    High resolution 3D-scan of the runestone from Ervik in Harstad municipality, Troms and Finnmark county. The stone has been scanned using an Artec Spider 3D-scanner and post-processed in Artec Studio 15 Professional at the archaeology lab at AHR, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Maximum error reported during the initial scanning is 0,3 mm. The maximum theoretical 3D point accuracy of the scanner is 0,05 mm with a resolution of 0,1 mm. The main model included in the dataset is a non-simplified mesh of 36,288,016 faces and 18,144,026 vertices. The second model has been carefully simplified using a shape deviation constraint of 0,01 mm and consists of a mesh built up of 7,044,110 faces and 3,522,073 vertices. The latter model is included for convenience as the primary one warrants large computing capabilities to be processed. Both models are delivered in the open Wavefront .obj format while the decimated one also is delivered as .fbx for convenience purposes. A number of pre-rendered ambient occlusion views are also included

    Replication Data for: Extracurricular work experience and its association with training and confidence in emergency medicine procedures among medical students: a cross-sectional study from a Norwegian medical school

    The dataset contains answers from a questionnaire distributed to all medical students at UiT as well as first year graduates from November 2019 to February 2020. The purpose of the questionnaire was to investigate how the UiT Medical students acquire practical competence in emergency medicine-related skills, and to investigate whether students with extracurricular healthcare-related work experience had more training and confidence in such skills than students without such experience. Data such as ECHR work experience (yes, no) and workplace, work length (3 years), work hours (500h) and number of workplaces (1, >1), as well as year of study (years 1-6 and first year graduates), previous healthcare-related education (no, commenced but unfinished, finished), previous military medic-training (no, basic, advanced), and number of TAMS events participated in (0, 1, 2-5, 6-10, >10) were recorded as well, and included in the data analysis as predictors and confounders. Several items probing amount of training as well as confidence level for the respective procedures were created as well, as Likert-based items. The alternatives for training amount were 0, 1-5, 6-10, 11-30, >30 times for most items, however, for some, training amount in practice (0, 1-5, 6-10, 11-30, >30 times) and real-life situations (0, 1, 2-5, 6-10, >10) were probed separately. Confidence level was probed as degree of agreement, from strongly disagree to strongly agree. At the bottom of the dataset, variables from calculations of the data are included, such as median, mean and sum of the variables addressing training amount and confidence level, respectively. These composite scores were applied for statistical analyses.Abstract Objectives: To study the association between medical students' extracurricular healthcare-related (ECHR) work experience and their self-reported practical experience and confidence in selected emergency medicine procedures. Study design: Cross-sectional study. Materials and methods: Medical students and first-year graduates were invited to answer a Likert-based questionnaire probing self-reported practical experience and confidence with selected emergency medicine procedures. Participants also reported ECHR work experience, year of study, previous healthcare-related education, military medic-training and participation in the local student association for emergency medicine (TAMS). Differences within the variables were analyzed with independent samples t-tests, and correlation between training and confidence was calculated. Analysis of covariance and mixed models were applied to study associations between training and confidence, and work experience (primary outcomes) and the other reported factors (secondary outcomes) respectively. Cohen’s D was applied to better illustrate the strength of association for primary outcomes. Results: 539 participants responded (70%). Among these, 81% had ECHR work experience. There was a strong correlation (r=0.878) between training and confidence. Work experience accounted for 5.9% and 3.5% of the total variance in training and confidence (primary outcomes), and respondents with work experience scored significantly higher than respondents without work experience. Year of study, previous education, military medic-training and TAMS-participation accounted for 49.3% and 58.5%, 8.7% and 5.1%, 6.8% and 4.7%, and 23.6% and 12.3% of the total variance in training and confidence respectively (secondary outcomes). Cohen’s D was 0.48 for training amount and 0.32 for confidence level, suggesting medium and weak-medium sized associations to work experience, respectively. Conclusions: ECHR work experience is common among medical students, and was associated with more training and higher confidence in the investigated procedures. Significant associations were also seen between training and confidence, and year of study, previous healthcare-related education and TAMS participation, but military medic-training showed no association

    Industrial low-temperature freezing applications are often batch processes, requiring a lot of energy, exerting stress on the electrical grid. To relieve this stress, thermal energy storage can be used. However, there is a lack of suitable storage material for low temperature applications (around -50 °C). Under high pressures, carbon dioxide can be used as the phase change material for storage temperatures around -55 °C. A parametric study was conducted on the design and operational parameters of an industrial-scale pillow plate heat exchanger with carbon dioxide. Two responses were selected for the analysis where R1 considered the storage size over the phase change time (kWh/h), while R2 indicated the cost over the storage size (USD/kWh). Using design of experiments, a total of 52 simulations were carried out to investigate the parameters under constant heat transfer surface area. Analysis of variance was then carried out followed by correlation development and optimization. This dataset presents the data and figures related to the study on concept of thermal storage in the solid-liquid transition of carbon dioxide in pillow-plate heat exchangers
